Monday, March 14, 2011 5:25:08 AM GMT
Portal 2 writer Erik Wolpaw wants you to know that Valve's upcoming sequel isn't as difficult as it looks. Trailers for the game show off plenty of insane action, filled with daring leaps, breakneck speeds and physically impossible tricks. "We're going to train you," Wolpaw told us at PAX East, "At no point are we going to ask you do something that we haven't prepared you to do." (more)

Why Gabe, why!? Oh, right. Earlier today, we told you about Steam Guard, which (optionally) allows you to restrict your Steam account in such a way that short of a thief breaking into your home and logging into your designated computer, your account is safe. (more)

Valve shares some insight into Dota 2's development

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2411 days, 6 hours, 26 minutes ago
Monday, January 10, 2011 9:03:31 AM GMT
Turning a Warcraft 3 mod into a fully-fledged product is probably a tricky process, especially when that mod has a feverishly devoted fan base. Valve senior project manager Erik Johnson recently spoke to IGN about how the Dota 2 dev team is tiptoeing through this potential minefield, explaining that the core gameplay of the mod will remain unchanged. "We'd be pretty hard-pressed to improve on that," Johnson explained. (more)

Behold the Portal 2 box art: 2 portals, 2 robots, 2 Cubes

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2416 days, 5 hours, 26 minutes ago

I'm eagerly anticipating the spring release of Portal 2, just like most of you, and Valve has sent out something to tide us over for the next few months: the game's box art. The cover's designers certainly took less of a minimalistic approach than the artists of the cover of the original Portal, but I like it -- it does a great job of illustrating Portal 2's, uh, two-ness. Valve launches Team Fortress 2 beta program

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2447 days, 4 hours, 6 minutes ago
Sunday, December 05, 2010 11:23:38 AM GMT
Team Fortress 2 is ever-evolving and a new initiative from Valve hopes to make this rampant evolution a bit safer for all players through the Team Fortress 2 public beta. Accessible to all owners of the game on Steam (open your Library then install "Team Fortress 2 Beta" from your games list), it's a special version of the game that lets Valve tinker around with game mechanics while you test 'em out live. Think: scientist and guinea pig. You're the guinea pig. (more)

Introversion credits Steam for company's salvation

In a candid post on Introversion Software's DEFCON forums, company co-founder Mark Morris admits that the Darwinia+ developer was close to closing up shop following disappointing sales of the game's XBLA port. "Internally we knew within about an hour of Darwinia+'s launch that it hadn't done well enough," Morris wrote. "It took us about two weeks to really accept that and the awful realisation that we didn't have enough to continue with the office or the staff. We had a bunch of creditors knocking at the... (more)

Left 4 Dead 2 mutates again, DLC teased

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2560 days, 6 hours, 6 minutes ago
Saturday, August 14, 2010 9:23:00 AM GMT
Thanks to Left 4 Dead 2, Friday has become some kind of weekly masochistic holiday. This week proves no different, as the latest mutation, Iron Man, pits the survivors against the Infected with "no respawns, no restarts, no ammo, all tension." In other words, you get the ammo you start with, no one respawns and, should your whole crew bite the dust (or be bitten by dusty zombies), you'll have to start the entire campaign over again. Ouch. If you thought Valve was going to cash out its stock in Team Fortress 2 after releasing an update for the game's ninth and final class, then you thought wrong. Speaking to PC Gamer, Valve's Robin Walker revealed that a mess of new content would be added to the game in yet another free update next month. Of course, after feeding "next month" through our inscrutable Valve Time Converter, that time period actually ranges between September 2010 and April 2035 (more)

Left 4 Dead's 'Tank' figure unveiled, busting through bank accounts

We've got some mixed emotions about the just revealed Tank mini-statue (statuette just doesn't seem fitting for a giant terrifying zombie), created by Gaming Heads for Valve. Sure, its detail is marvelous and it comes with a totally sweet, albeit miniature, pump-action shotgun, but it's also 325 real-life actual dollars for the "exclusive edition". (more)
