Champtron's 65-incher can recognize two-finger touch, make for a decently spacious second screen (video)

If you can never have enough screen real estate while working, you might want to give Champtron's 65-inch behemoth a look. It's a 1080p Sharp panel imbued with the ability to recognize two touch inputs at a time -- which can be fingers or "any" other sort of stylus -- which should prove pretty damn useful when you're trying to Photoshop a little extra sheen atop Steve Ballmer's glorious dome. As an added bonus, the dimensions of this screen make the Windows 7 UI extremely finger-friendly. Hell, it border... (more)

But this year we're bringing you more: two live broadcasts to give you some extra analysis. At around 10:30am ET (that's 7:30am on the best coast), before Apple kicks off the show, Tim and Darren will go over the expected big announcements for the day, talking iCloud, iOS 5, and Mac OS X Lion. Sony Takes the Wrap Off NGP Games on Video

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2332 days, 6 hours, 2 minutes ago
Sunday, June 05, 2011 7:05:26 AM GMT
We already know quite a bit about the NGP, at least as far as specs are concerned, but Sony this week added to our knowledge of the device by releasing videos of the console in action. The clips demonstrate several titles, including Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Wipeout (working title), and a music game called Sound Shapes. Sony also discussed Hustle Kings, and Super Stardust Delta, but neither of these titles were demo'd on video. (more)

Eee Pad Transformer caught playing nice with PS3 controller (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2332 days, 6 hours, 3 minutes ago
Sunday, June 05, 2011 7:04:49 AM GMT
Earlier this week the Eee Pad Transformer scored itself a sweet upgrade in the form of Android 3.1, and with it came USB host support. When we did our hands-on with the Honeycomb update we couldn't demo the feature because, well, the Xoom doesn't have any USB ports. But that Transformer keyboard dock has a pair of 2.0 jacks and someone was kind enough to post a YouTube vid of a PS3 controller and the ASUS tablet getting their game on. (more)

Newest Kinect hack: a grocery cart that loyally follows disabled shoppers (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2332 days, 6 hours, 5 minutes ago
Sunday, June 05, 2011 7:02:33 AM GMT
Microsoft's Kinect is the gift that keeps on giving for hackers, spawning everything from glasses-free teleconferencing to Tesla coil manipulation to uh, well, Android dance parties. But Luis de Matos's wi-Go project is one of the most socially conscious we've seen: it adds a laptop and (despite its name) a Kinect to a shopping cart, enabling the cart to follow a wheelchair user. Improving on the B.O.S.S. bot we saw a half-decade ago, the wi-Go could allow anyone -- including the disabled or elderly -- t... (more)

Kinect enabled head-tracking previewed in Forza 4 spotlight video, turns heads (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2335 days, 5 hours, 1 minute ago
Thursday, June 02, 2011 8:06:46 AM GMT
Ever since Johnny Chung Lee was snatched up by Microsoft's Project Natal team to work on Kinect, we've been curious to see how his Wii head-tracking skills would come to fruition on the device. This week, an Inside Xbox episode shows us how it will work with Forza 4, and the Kinect enabled head-tracking appears to run fairly smoothly compared to others we've seen (just try getting similar results on Gran Turismo 5 with a PlayStation Eye). There's no word about other titles planning to make use of this ne... (more)

CNC mill and Sixaxis controller make beautiful DIY music together (video)

Have you ever thought to yourself, "my CNC mill is pretty cool, but I really want to make it more awesomer"? Well, first, "awesomer" totally isn't word, and second, have we got a hack for you! A reader wrote in to the DIY hub Adafruit to show off his CNC being operated by a PS3 Sixaxis controller -- mimicking features found on high-end machines that allow you to trigger jobs from a distance and manually control the mill. NTT DoCoMo exhibits on-the-fly speech translation, lets both parties just talk (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2337 days, 5 hours, 9 minutes ago

The race to smash linguistic barriers with simultaneous speech-to-speech translation is still wide open, and Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo has just joined Google Translate and DARPA on the track. Whereas Google Translate's Conversation Mode was a turn-based affair when it was demoed back in January, requiring each party to pause awkwardly between exchanges, NTT DoCoMo's approach seems a lot more natural. He's not looking to make a profit, promising that after costs a portion of the selling price will go to server expenses at PSHax, with another portion dedicated to tornado relief efforts in Joplin, Missouri. NVIDIA's quad-core Kal-El used to demo next-gen mobile graphics, blow minds (video)

You might think yourself too grown-up to be wowed by shiny, glittery things, but we doubt many will be able to watch NVIDIA's new Glow Ball tech demo without a smidgen of childlike glee. Built to run on the company's quad-core Kal-El processor, it shows us the first example of true dynamic lighting on mobile devices and also throws in some impressive physics calculations like fully modeled cloth motion (more)

Pioneer AppRadio hands-on (updated with video!)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2342 days, 6 hours, 29 minutes ago
Thursday, May 26, 2011 6:39:03 AM GMT
We got a chance to experience Pioneer's iOS-connected in-dash AppRadio in action this afternoon, and even got to see the thing running in a real-deal automobile. So did it meet our expectations? Well, to be perfectly honest, we didn't know what to expect, but for what it promises, which is bringing the convenience and connectivity of iOS apps to your car, we suppose it does a fine job -- even if it only supports a handful apps at the moment. More after the break. (more)

Thankfully, it seems MP3Car has a pretty slick and affordable solution to the problem of fumbling with your iPhone when you should probably be focusing on the road and not crashing into things. We're looking at the Brainchild Kineo, a 7-inch, 800MHz Android tablet, locked down for education-only use. No unauthorized web browsing, no personal email, and no Angry Birds. (more)

Samsung Infuse 4G review

We're just getting into the swing of spring, flowers blooming and skeeters biting, but already it's been a great year for Samsung -- if we ignore the whole lawsuit thing. Just a few weeks ago the company delivered to us our highest scoring Android phone yet, the Galaxy S II and, while that handset has not appeared on American shores, we were graced with the Droid Charge, which offers LTE speed, strong battery life, and an on-contract price that slightly exceeds its design. Robot arm learns to use hammer, mocks pathetic human's attempt to fight back (video)

This guy had a pretty natural reaction upon discovering that the DLR Hand Arm System has learned to use a hammer: he took a bat to the thing. Rather than curbing the inevitable robotic uprising, however, the whole thing just demonstrates exactly how durable the mechanical appendage is, as it resumes normal functionality after the swift blow.
