Video: Singularity's age-defying destruction

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2747 days, 6 hours ago
Sunday, May 16, 2010 6:54:30 AM GMT
We've known about the ability to age and "revert" objects and people in Singularity for a while. It acts as a way to destroy cover, rebuild broken bridges and age enemy soldiers into dust. We wondered before why reverting soldiers didn't turn them into babies, and now we know why: It actually turns them into an exploding pile of goo. Okay, so you can also revert enemies into a raging, feral beast but, come on, exploding pile of goo. (more)

Naughty Bear's cannibalistic, Jaws-inspired trailer

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2747 days, 6 hours, 1 minute ago
Sunday, May 16, 2010 6:53:14 AM GMT
The parodies keep coming for Naughty Bear, as this latest trailer takes a bite out of Steven Spielberg's horror hit, Jaws. While we definitely enjoy the spirited homage, we do have one issue: it's straight-up cannibalism. We don't care if these bears are full of fluffy cotton -- seeing one bear consume another is terrifying. (more)

We're not a hard blog to please. Send us some screens and some video, perhaps a trailer that has a badass guitar solo screeching throughout, and you've won us over. That's exactly what's going on in the Sniper: Ghost Warrior multiplayer trailer above. (more)

Hulu says HTML5 'doesn't yet meet all of our customers' needs'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2749 days, 18 hours, 44 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 6:10:06 PM GMT
As you may be aware, Hulu rolled out an updated version of its video player today, but what you may not have noticed is that the company also took advantage of the occasion to briefly talk about HTML5. In a post on the Hulu blog (which has curiously since been pulled, though it remains in the RSS feed), Hulu's VP of Product Eugene Wei took a moment for an "aside on HTML5," in which he said that while Hulu continues to monitor developments on HTML5, (more)

Backbreaker's running game looks for the gap

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2751 days, 12 hours, 36 minutes ago
Wednesday, May 12, 2010 12:18:15 AM GMT
Backbreaker continues to promise a little innovation in the football genre, even as it tries to take on the mighty Madden juggernaut. In this new Training Camp video, you can check out the running game and how it works. In theory, it sounds great -- just use the right stick in an intuitive way to bump, stiff arm, and hurdle your opponents in the constant drive towards the end zone. In practice, though, it's tough to see how well the game will determine the gestures, like comparing a simple hurdle (pushin... (more)

Wii at Last, Wii at Last, Thank God Almighty ...

Monday, May 10, 2010 6:20:31 AM GMT
Wii at Last, Wii at Last, Thank God Almighty ... So President Obama, once again, dinged video games in a speech. I'd rather send a more uplifting message, where a console is judged not by the content of its games, but the color of its skin. As we know, today is an historic day* in America - the first black Wii is available for purchase. Here's Black Nerd Comedy's take on what this means for our post-racial society. There's a Big Free Ad for some t-shirts he's hawking at the end; we don't endorse that a... (more)

Our Enslaved: Odyssey to the West trailer is your trailer

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2753 days, 6 hours, 48 minutes ago
Monday, May 10, 2010 6:05:52 AM GMT
The most recent episode of GameTrailers TV brought with it the first moving pictures associated with Ninja Theory's upcoming Chinese fable-turned-video game, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Our initial thoughts on the trailer is that it loses a significant amount of points for sheer bossiness ("My something is your something," the video frequently informs us), but regains said points for the protagonist's creative methods of ladder navigation. Oh sure, you've seen your disgustingly hairy cousin solve a Rubik's Cube in 3 minutes and 13.4 seconds, and we've seen quite a few sophisticated robots do it in far less time. But in the latest episode of "Yes, Droid Really Does," we've got Motorola's darling solving a Lego-encased Cube in just over 24 seconds. Let's recap: a Droid, a Mindstorms NXT monstrosity, a Rubik's Cube and faux techno. Is there any chance you aren't clicking through to watch this video? (more)

The first Persona 3 Portable video walkthrough provided by Atlus summarized the story and gameplay of the original PS2 RPG. As promised, this second video highlights the new features of the enhanced PSP version. The most significant difference is the ability to play as a female character, which changes various aspects of the game's overall story. The female avatar will unlock different social links, and new potential romances. There are also two additional difficulty settings: Beginner and Maniac. In ad... (more)

By the start of the Fall season, however, CBS Interactive SVP Anthony Soohoo is promising content parity between its Flash-based website and HTML5-compliant iPad portal. While on the subject, he also notes that the video strategy will be entirely web-based, with no plans for an app à la ABC Player. (more)

Transformers: War for Cybertron trailer is like hot sex

Activision has today released a new multiplayer trailer for Transformers: War for Cybertron and it has made me wet my knickers a little bit. It shows off the character creation system, and the different classes that can be chosen when battling in the name of your chosen faction. It's not reinventing the wheel, but it looks like a load of fun. (more)

Google Chrome: faster than a flying potato

Google's never been shy to make claims that Chrome is the fastest browser on the planet, but it's truly pulled out all the stops to drive that point home for its latest beta. Rather than rely on some simple benchmarks, Google decided to test Chome against some other things that are fast -- namely, a potato cannon, sound waves, and lightning. We won't spoil all the surprise for you, but you can rest assured that Chrome comes out looking pretty good, and that everything else gets a little messy. Head on pa... (more)

Nintendo of America released this video yesterday. Seriously. This wasn't recorded in 1994 in Reggie Fils-Aime's basement or anything. Its intended purpose is to inform you of the new Wii bundle, which comes with Wii Sports Resort and a MotionPlus in addition to all the stuff the old basic package came with for $199.99. (more)

Hook, Line and Stinker: My failed Nier review

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2759 days, 5 hours, 13 minutes ago

I played four long hours of Nier with the full intention of completing a review of the game. But after reaching the point you see in the video above, I, in my capacity as reviews editor, decided that it was inadvisable to continue with that plan. I have a beloved wife and cat that depend on my continued sanity and a TV that I can't currently afford to replace, should I be prompted to put it through my living room window. (more)

In this latest developer diary for Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, you get a nice look at the Prince's new ability to control various elements. Gifted with powers by a Djinn named Razia, the Prince can control earth, wind, water, and fire. Not just a killer R&B group, the powers are used both in puzzles and in combat. One use shows the Prince freezing waterfalls so he can wall run arosss them, or stopping water spouting from fountains to climb or swing. His wind power is shown for use in com... (more)

Move support, playable Zurg only in Toy Story 3 for PS3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2760 days, 16 hours, 45 minutes ago
Sunday, May 02, 2010 8:09:19 PM GMT
Apparently, PlayStation 3 is the game console of choice for villains. First there was Darth Vader in Soulcalibur IV, then the Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum, and now it's been revealed that you can control Emperor Zurg in Toy Story 3 if you own the PS3 version. Also exclusive to PlayStation 3 is Move support, which makes a lot more sense. Specifically, the motion controller will be limited to minigames, with a shooting gallery the only example given. We have to start somewhere with the Natal/Move suppor... (more)
