Absorb this Skate 3 TV ad into your brain

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2664 days, 3 hours, 2 minutes ago

EA has released the Skate 3 TV ad and it barely shows the game off! A majority of the commercial is of people going bat sh*t crazy as others are skateboarding on the ramp. The commercial ends with a few seconds of actual Skate 3 gameplay, which I guess is just enough to get the TV viewing audience interested in the game. (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2664 days, 3 hours, 47 minutes ago
Sunday, May 02, 2010 7:20:10 PM GMT
While Apple has been vocal about its push towards using HTML5 for video playback and leaving Flash out in the cold, Microsoft has quietly been keeping a similar stance. Microsoft GM for Internet Explorer, Dean Hachamovitch, posted a note on the MSDN detailing what the plans are for browser video formats in IE9. Interestingly, Microsoft agrees with Apple, as it feels that the "The future of the web is HTML5." (more)

Hey, remember how Microsoft released a very limited version of the Windows Phone 7 binaries for developers, and then it took about 34 seconds for someone to unlock them to open up all their hidden goodness? Well, MS has just the delivered an updated set of tools for developers to help them get a little closer to making millions on the Maketplace, and yet again it took no time at all for that release to be unlocked This time there are a few new goodies to take a look at and if you'd like to take a peek, ... 8-bit arcade guitar sounds (and looks) like a little piece of nerd heaven

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2667 days, 16 hours, 49 minutes ago

The hand built, 8-bit "arcade guitar" that you see above is the result of a DIY senior project, and it's a pretty cool accomplishment. There's not a ton of detail about how it was constructed, but we know that it's got an FPGA (field-programmable gate array) for logic and function, strings and a joystick for adjusting the pitch, and it also boasts selectable waves and save banks. Most importantly, however, the final product sounds really, really good -- and we'd advise you to check the video below. (more)

EA has been pushing the community aspects of Skate 3 since unveiling the game, and this latest trailer is no different. Focusing on the Freeskating mode, the video demonstrates how easy it is to hook up with some friends and navigate the different parts of Port Carverton. For the most part, these are things players could do in Skate 2 -- been there, done that. (more)

Firefox now available for Android 2.0 and above, still at pre-alpha stage

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2668 days, 14 hours, 16 minutes ago

Fennec, Mozilla's codeword for mobile Firefox builds, has just made its pre-alpha debut on Android. The tastefully named Vladimir Vukićević informs us that it's pretty much a debug release, with unoptimized memory utilization and some quirks rebooting the app when it's started and when add-ons are installed, but it is at a stage where the devs felt they could get useful feedback from a broader user base. It's not yet available on the Android Market, so you'll be needing to download it from the link below... (more)

Here's the thing about this Skate 3 trailer: it's freakin' nuts. Does it have narration from Skateboard Sense? Check. How about some raw meat grinding a huge ledge? Yup, it's there. What about a brief section where some dude goes crazy, pounding everyone around him with a skateboard? How about zombies and big heads and tons of bails and -- okay, you get the picture. (more)

PSA: Alan Wake prequel 'Bright Falls' available now

As promised, the first two episodes of Alan Wake's live-action prequel, titled "Bright Falls," became available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers earlier this morning. However, though Microsoft said we shouldn't expect to see the videos anywhere else for a couple of days, the New York Times managed to get its hands on the series' first two installments. They're on the newspaper's website right now, and they are weird as hell. (more)

Toy Story 3 trailer explains the customizable 'Toy Box' mode

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2670 days, 17 hours, 31 minutes ago
Monday, April 26, 2010 5:36:41 AM GMT
We've got to hand it to Avalanche Software: You guys sure know how to inject a modicum of ingenuity into an extremely tired genre. For instance, the upcoming game adaptation of Toy Story 3 was off our proverbial radar moments after it was first announced -- however, a recent trailer for the game's "Toy Box" mode, which allows its (presumably juvenile) players to make their own levels and missions, it's now taking up a tiny place in our minds. QderoPateo Ouidoo to pack 26-core chip, looks like Palm Pre and Windows Phone 7 love child

Really now? KIRFing a phone and a UI is one thing, but claiming to have a 26-core CPU (!) capable of 8-gigaflop (!) floating point operation -- or the equivalent of four iPads combined, apparently -- is one helluva stretch for a smartphone. This is apparently how awesome the QderoPateo Ouidoo will be. According to the launch event at the Shanghai World Expo on Friday, the too-good-to-be-true Divinitus CPU will help power the Ouidoo OS's augmented reality articulated naturality apps and 3D social-networ... If you've got an original iPhone 2G handy, there's now a 68-step guide that can walk you through the entire process. Google, Broadcom close to enabling 802.11n on Nexus One?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2673 days, 3 hours, 6 minutes ago

We need a name for this whole drama -- we like "n-Gate," but it's a little too close to N-Gage for comfort. Anyhow, you might recall that Google briefly listed 802.11n support in the Nexus One around the time of its release, then wiped all mention of it only to have iFixit's teardown reveal on no uncertain terms that the Broadcom-sourced wireless chipset was definitely capable of rocking it. For the hardcore still with us, the story goes a little something like this: a Denver-area man headed out to his local Apple store to pick up an iPad for a colleague (read: not even for himself), and in an interview, he admits to not even really understanding the fascination with Apple's new product. ModNation Racers PSP track editor works as it should

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2677 days, 5 hours, 24 minutes ago

A new video on the PlayStation.Blog (posted after the break) showcases how easy it is to use the track editor featured in the PSP version of ModNation Racers. In fact, it works nearly the same way as the PS3 version. Yes, there are a few caveats (for example, the auto-complete feature is much more intelligent on the console). However, the track editor gives you all the bells, whistles and launch pads you'll need to create a fun race for portable players. (more)

Droid Incredible review

At this point, the HTC Incredible should seem like pretty familiar territory to our readers. We first caught wind of the device in a ROM leak back in December of 2009, and shortly thereafter saw lots of little snippets on the phone that made it clear it was headed our way. Of course, it's a potent combination that's been put together here -- an HTC-made, Verizon-locked device sporting a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 8GB of internal storage, 748MB of ROM, a microSD slot (with support for up to 32GB cards), an 8 m... Microsoft shows how Natal recognizes players, gender

Have you ever wondered what Project Natal actually sees through its beady, robotic eyes? A direct feed of the Natal's point-of-view was recently revealed to the audience of Microsoft Israel R&D's "Think Next" convention yesterday afternoon. Just past the jump, you can check out NextGen-News' video of a live demonstration from Microsoft VP of Hardware and Technology Dr. Ilan Spillinger and a female participant, both of whose genders and movements were successfully identified and Avatar-ified by Natal. Sure, you saw the first part of the Dead to Rights: Retribution behind the scenes video, but have you seen the second half? Yeah, we didn't think so. But it's here, just above, and Volatile Games project director Imre Jele is back again to lay out how the game was put together over the past few years. Jele describes the development as akin to a kid in a candy shop, unable to pick just one item and instead choosing everything.
