Rayman Origins a no-show for holiday 2010

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2429 days, 5 hours, 31 minutes ago
Thursday, December 23, 2010 10:03:00 AM GMT
Rayman Origins, a beautiful 2D adventure created within Ubisoft's UbiArt framework, was scheduled to launch on HD consoles by the end of this year. While the official website still believes that to be the case, it's now clear that the release has been delayed. Planned as an episodic series, Rayman Origins examines the mischievous beginnings of Michel Ancel's famous limber-yet-limbless hero, and his friendship with Globox, a boisterous frog-type ... thing. Ms. Splosion Man makes her debut, sploding 'fall of 2011'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2449 days, 5 hours, 26 minutes ago
Friday, December 03, 2010 10:08:21 AM GMT
You know, in retrospect, that was quite a tell. Just last week, Splosion Man 'sploded to the top of the Xbox Live Arcade charts thanks to a hefty 75% Black Friday discount; this week, developer Twisted Pixel introduces us to Ms. Splosion Man, the titular leading lady in its next digitally delivered opus, coming "fall of 2011." Notably absent from the press release: a platform. Splosion Man was, of course, an Xbox Live Arcade-exclusive and part of Microsoft's 2009 Summer of Arcade. (more)

Sega resets Sonic 4's leaderboards due to cheating

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2454 days, 4 hours, 31 minutes ago
Sunday, November 28, 2010 11:03:18 AM GMT
Look, Sonic the Hedgehog is fast. He can run faster than the speed of sound, but even if he ran full speed through Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1's shortest level, it would still take him longer than 0'00"00 to do it. That's just physically impossible, even for an improbably proportioned and colored hedgehog. And since some hackers have posted those times and impossible scores on the game's Xbox 360 leaderboards, Sega has decided to go through and reset the whole thing. (more)

Spelunky surfaces in new screenshots

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2504 days, 7 hours, 22 minutes ago
Saturday, October 09, 2010 8:11:43 AM GMT
The XBLA version of Derek Yu's subterranean, sidescrolling roguelike Spelunky is looking pretty nice in these new screenshots. Not only is the resolution (and thus, the detail) higher than the PC original, but there are new lighting effects, explosions, and adorable red noses to look at. "I really want Spelunky to be as fun to look at as it it to play," Yu said, "and to that end, we've added lots of little details to the backgrounds to try and make each part of the game feel even more distinct. posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2563 days, 7 hours, 9 minutes ago

As reported from last month's Develop conference, Double Fine – the San Francisco-based development studio led by Tim Schafer – won't be following up Brütal Legend with Brütal Legend 2. Instead, it's working on four "smaller" games, the first of which has just been revealed. Costume Quest is the first of two games being published by THQ and it's not being designed by Tim Schafer himself. (more)

Earthworm Jim HD inches to PSN

posted by lililili 2575 days, 20 hours, 26 minutes ago

In June, Gameloft updated Shiny Entertainment's 16-bit classic Earthworm Jim for the high-definition era, releasing the game on Xbox Live Arcade. Now, PlayStation 3 gamers will have the same opportunity to hop into the anthropomorphic annelid's super suit, as Gameloft said today that Earthworm Jim HD will arrive on the PlayStation Network for $10 on August 3. Earthworm Jim HD is essentially a reimagining of the side-scrolling action platformer's original 1994 release on the Sega Genesis. It follows the ... (more)

We know Dead Space-dev Visceral Games has had its eye on the downloadable space -- along with the rest of EA -- for some time now with the oft-rumored Jack the Ripper title and something else. Well, that something else is Dead Space Ignition, "the first of many exciting game extensions we have planned for the launch of Dead Space 2," says Dead Space franchise exec producer Steve Papoutsis. What's tucked after the break may be considered spoiler-ish, so click on through if you're willing to take the plunge. (more)

Hydrophobia trailer floods our hearts and minds

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2619 days, 19 hours, 49 minutes ago

Dark Energy Digital fired off a new trailer for its exceptionally moist episodic action title Hydrophobia earlier today. As always, the water which protagonist Kate is forced to traverse looks wonderful (in a deadly kind of way). We're perplexed, however, by all the fire featured in said video. We're no scientists, but shouldn't that turn the aforementioned water into, well, steam? (more)

Earthworm Jim HD to feature multiplayer (somehow)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2638 days, 7 hours, 29 minutes ago
Friday, May 28, 2010 8:05:09 AM GMT
According to a list of Achievements unearthed by Xbox 360 Achievements, it looks like the upcoming Earthworm Jim HD will feature some form of multiplayer. There are two Achievements for multiplayer, one awarded for being "'No. 1' in each Xbox Live multiplayer level" and another for completing all multiplayer levels. It's hard to imagine how multiplayer would work, though GamerBytes offers up the possibility of speed run competitions or a multiplyaer variant of the snot bungee mini-game. (more)
