Yakuza: Dead Souls livened up with minigames

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1981 days, 2 hours, 7 minutes ago
Friday, February 17, 2012 8:34:17 AM GMT
Even a spreading zombie epidemic isn't enough to keep Sega from loading Yakuza: Dead Souls full of inconsequential, goofy minigames. There are a few ... subtle changes to the minigames we've grown to love, however. For example, the fishing minigame has you catching a different kind of sea creature. (more)

When we all saw the teaser for Halo 4, our first question was: "What is up with that armor?" Last time we checked, he didn't have a jetpack. Could Master Chief actually be Barry Steakfries? (more)

Massachusetts is the fifth largest state for game industry employment in spite of better developer incentives in other states. Nearly 1,300 industry jobs exist in the Commonwealth, but a recent profile of Irrational Games by The Improper Bostonian covers how the state's grip on gaming could slip if it doesn't step up studio stimulus. Mortal Kombat Vita augments reality in this trailer

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1981 days, 2 hours, 12 minutes ago
Friday, February 17, 2012 8:29:25 AM GMT
While this trailer for Mortal Kombat primarily shows what's new with the Vita version of the game, I can't help but want to pull out my console copy and play a few rounds. We're shown what happens when Scorpion and Sub-Zero pummel each other in a library, an office, and a skate park thanks to the wonders of augmented reality. There's even a tease for the Vita-exclusive challenges. Great song choice, too! (more)

I knew the people of the Atlus USA offices are sneaky bastards, so I got to digging in that image file and found that it actually says something. I put it in my favorite image editor, took the white level down and got what you see above. It says "stay tuned" over something that looks like broken glass. (more)

Preview: Getting in deep with the Triads in Sleeping Dogs

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1981 days, 2 hours, 18 minutes ago
Friday, February 17, 2012 8:23:18 AM GMT
I'm so glad this game has shaped into what it is now, because when I first heard that Sleeping Dogs was originally titled True Crime: Hong Kong, I thought to myself, "Damn it, hopefully this will be a short demo." Once I saw the game in action, though, and was informed that it was always meant to be a completely original IP (with or without the True Crime handle), I shed all reservations and instantly grew optimistic. LightSquared grasps at straws, slams FCC in a statement

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1981 days, 2 hours, 20 minutes ago
Friday, February 17, 2012 8:20:34 AM GMT
To say it's been a bumpy road for LightSquared over recent months would be an understatement. However, developments this week could see the beleaguered company reach a critical fork in the road. On Tuesday, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration confirmed that LightSquared's planned network would indeed interfere with global positioning systems, and that there was no "practical way" to work around this. The FCC subsequently proposed to indefinitely suspend LightSquared's authority... (more)

Battery Device Turns Sea Water Into Freshwater

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1981 days, 2 hours, 28 minutes ago

With more than 70% of the Earth's surface covered by water, it can be surprising to learn that water scarcity is a real problem many third world countries face. It certainly doesn't help that the majority of that water is saltwater that must go through a costly and lengthy purification process before it can be of any use. Luckily, researchers at Stanford University may be one step closer to cheap, efficient desalination process. (more)
