Frequenters of India's online Microsoft Store were briefly greeted with the suspicious visage of a Guy Fawkes mask this morning, following a hack that compromised the site's user database. According to WPSauce, Microsoft Store India's landing page was briefly taken over by a hacker group called Evil Shadow Team, who, in addition to putting a new face on Windows products, revealed that user passwords were saved in plain text. posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1985 days, 2 hours, 14 minutes ago
Monday, February 13, 2012 8:33:54 AM GMT
We first heard about Google's foray into home-based hardware late last week, when it asked the FCC for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to have employees test an "entertainment device" in their homes (as opposed to a lab). According to the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, it's rumored to be a Sonos-like device related to the Android@Home Tungsten hub we saw at Google I/O last year. It appears, however, that's not all Google's got in store, as some information has trickled out about another Google... (more)

Apple has a lot of money. This we know. However, the company passed a jaw-dropping milestone this week that accurately illustrates just how much the Cupertino-based company is actually worth. Apple shares surged to an all-time high yesterday, passing the $490 mark and closing at $493.17. This is up $16.49 from just one day previously and represents a 3.46 percent increase for the day. More interestingly, it pushed Apple's capitalization to just shy of $460 billion. This is more than rivals Microsoft and ... (more)

Smartphones are a wonderful invention that have enriched our lives and made everyday tasks more manageable. However, a knock-on effect of our reliance on these smartphones is that they pretty much know everything about us. So, really, it shouldn't surprise that divorce lawyers are apparently seeing more and more cases where the evidence used was taken from a smartphone. (more)

Sometimes, the best way to become a blockbuster videogame is to act like you already are one. That seems to be Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning's modus operandi, and the gambit is paying off. Despite the big names attached to the project, very few people paid attention to the game until recently, when it started confidently presenting itself as a game that everybody wants. (more)

Confession time: I have not finished Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Over the last several days, I've poured over thirty hours into the enormous world. After twenty or so, I resolved to avoid secondary tasks and focus on primary quests, hoping to finish the campaign before composing this review. According to the report, the handset's going to be 7mm thick, helped by the company shrinking down its PCB, connector and chip sizes by between 10 and 20 percent.
