50 Million Tweets Are a Waste of Time Each Day

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2084 days, 11 hours, 1 minute ago
Tuesday, February 07, 2012 8:05:04 AM GMT
In fact, a considerable number of messages may be rather useless and drowns in the general noise. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Georgia Institute of Technology found that only 36 percent of tweets are "liked", while 39 percent did not affect readers and 25 percent were "disliked". That would mean that 50 million of 200 million tweets each day "are not worth reading". (more)

I am telling everyone to get their hands on a PlayStation Vita before passing judgement. Nothing kills me more than hearing that "it's another PSP." It's not -- it's so much more. My personal mission has had me handing off my own personal unit to what has to be near 100 people now. I've wiped this baby down so many times that I'm surprised that the paint hasn't worn off yet. The House of Blues in San Diego will play host to Sonic Boom 2012 on Friday, July 13, during the San Diego Comic Con. Comic Con badges will not be required to enter the event, although what the event actually is still remains completely unknown, save for the fact that Sega's ultimate goal is to "make it a great time for Sonic fans of all ages." Last year's Sonic Boom centered mostly on Sonic Generations, prize giveaways and a musical performance by Crush 40, the greatest band in the world. (more)

The Engadget Interview: the EFF's Mitch Stoltz talks the legality of jailbreaking

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2086 days, 8 hours, 1 minute ago

The work of a non-profit advocacy group is never done. It seems like just yesterday that the Electronic Frontier Foundation was waging a battle to put jailbreaking rights into the hands of consumers, much to the chagrin of manufacturers intent on maintaining control over their devices after they leave store shelves. With the looming expiration of an exemption to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act that has made such hacks legal, the organization is once again (more)

Roland's iModela 3D milling machine: it's a crafty tool

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2086 days, 8 hours, 3 minutes ago
Sunday, February 05, 2012 11:02:53 AM GMT
3D printing. Sure, that's pretty neat, but there are other ways to make three dimensional objects at home. Roland's new iModela, for example, is an "affordable" ($899) digital hobby mill that can carve 3D shapes, jewelry, textures and prototypes out of balsa wood, foam, modelling wax and plastics. Projects definitely need to be more on the petite side, but the 3.39inch x 2.17inch x 1.02inch milling area should be good for a wide range of small craft creations. The iModela comes with all the cutting tools... (more)

Valve announces updates for Team Fortress 2 in 2012

If you thought Valve was simply going to put Team Fortress 2 out to the free-to-play ranch in 2012, then think again. A new blog post has announced a wealth of new content coming this year including the last "Meet The..." video in the series for the Pyro. Will we finally have the Pryo's gender confirmed? My bet is on Valve pulling a neat swerve on the issue just to confound us even more. (more)
