posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1943 days, 9 hours, 6 minutes ago
Thursday, January 26, 2012 10:17:07 AM GMT
Kotaku has learned from an unnamed source that Microsoft's next console will feature a Blu-ray optical drive and some kind of anti-used game system. Details surrounding this little interesting nugget is virtually nonexistent -- even the source wasn't sure how Microsoft planned to implement such a system. (more)

Google Privacy Policy Will Track Users Across All Products

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1943 days, 9 hours, 9 minutes ago
Thursday, January 26, 2012 10:14:56 AM GMT
Google this week announced changes to its privacy policy that will see the company track and consolidate user information across all Google services. This means that what you do on YouTube, for example, could be used to offer you targeted ads with other Google services. Though it might be advantageous to have Google inform you you're going to be late for that Google Calendar appointment based on your location and the level of traffic in that area, it's not hard to see how this information might make peop... Nvidia & AMD Say HDD Shortage is Impacting GPU Sales

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1943 days, 9 hours, 10 minutes ago
Thursday, January 26, 2012 10:13:42 AM GMT
In the summer of last year, Thailand was hit with some disastrous flooding that continues to affect HDD companies and and the supply of hard drives. It's not unusual to hear HDD companies and tech analysts talk about the flooding and how it is affecting the industry. However, joining the refrain are companies with no stake in the HDD industry. They say that the shortage of hard drives has impacted PC shipments and, as such, had an effect on their businesses. (more)

In recent years, the platform game has been coming back into style with releases such as Rayman Origins and Donkey Kong Country Returns catching the attention of gamers across the globe. But there have always been those certain platformers that test your reflexes and timing more than your standard Mario or Sonic fare. During the NES generation, titles like Ghosts’N Goblins or Castlevania demanded that you use all of your skills in order to succeed. Now it seems that the most challenging platformers have ... (more)

Ladies and gentlemen, I got an iPhone this Christmas! I am no longer living in the 20th century! I've been checking out apps I've had my eye on as well as little surprises that have been suggested to me. So far, I've been enjoying the pick-up-and-play nature of mobile games, quickly restocking my stores in Tiny Tower while waiting at red lights, and whatnot. The next logical step was to review an iOS game. (more)

The Game OverThinker examines the future of piracy

If you visit The Escapist (which you should be doing anyway to check out Jimquisition!), you might have heard of Bob Chipman and his series Escape to the Movies and The Big Picture. Both are really good shows, but I much prefer his third, game culture-related show, The Game OverThinker. With strong writing and sound logic, Bob discusses a lot of gaming's major topics carefully and methodically. He's a lot more serious than other Internet pundits, yet he never fails to keep the listener engaged (more)

Beta test Skyrim 1.4 on Steam (if you dare)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1945 days, 11 hours, 33 minutes ago

Last week, Bethesda gave us the patch notes for Skyrim's next update, version 1.4. Rather than longingly glare at a web page for all of the fixes coming to your plagued save files, you have another option, granted you're playing the game on PC: you can opt into a beta version of the new update. Just make sure you back up all of your save files and other pertinent things first, mmkay? (more)

According to a notice spotted on the company's site by Andriasang, Hudson branded products and services will continue to be developed post-acquisition. (more)

AT&T and T-Mobile file request for FCC approval of spectrum transfer

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1945 days, 11 hours, 36 minutes ago
Tuesday, January 24, 2012 7:47:19 AM GMT
It looks like AT&T is ready to uphold its end of the bargain. As promised, the GSM giant is poised to hand over spectrum to T-Mobile valued at $1 billion as a result of the proposed merger failing, and once again the FCC is the gatekeeper that holds the keys to the success of the transfer. According to the Wall Street Journal, the companies need permission from the Commission in order to make the handover work out according to plan, though we haven't seen a specific deadline set for the transition (more)

Cyberstep sent our hearts aflutter-ish at last year's NAMM with its prototype KDJ-One, a Game Boy with gigantism that held a portable digital audio workstation inside. Now, twelve months later, the company's pulled the dust sheets from a version that's ready for prime-time. Inside its roomy bowels you'll find a 1.0GHz Intel Atom processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB SSD and a 5-inch WVGA (800 x 400) touchscreen that'll let you control that piano-roll score editor. (more)

RIM stock falls eight percent following CEO transition

We rarely meddle with stock news around these parts, but this was a pretty significant piece of meat to chew on. After Research in Motion introduced Thorsten Heins as the new CEO last night and again in a conference call this morning, the company's stock price tumbled a whopping 8.47 percent. When it comes to what kind of difference the transition will make for the struggling company, we haven't had a high amount of confidence; while we hope for the best and want to see RIM turn things around (more)

Chevy Volt safe from fire hazard after all, says government

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1945 days, 11 hours, 38 minutes ago
Tuesday, January 24, 2012 7:45:24 AM GMT
The Chevy Volt isn't prone to catching fire after all, says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The all-electric car came under scrutiny last year after one caught fire following a side-impact crash test. GM offered a buyback program for Volt owners concerned their cars might suddenly immolate, then the company made "enhancements" to the Volt's battery coolant system. That set things right, as far as the NHTSA is concerned (more)

The first of these new books are high school textbooks and are available from $14.99 through iBooks 2. While some may be skeptical of the platform's potential (after all, it does require students to first fork out for an iPad), it appears things are already going swimmingly for Apple. (more)
