Apparently suing Samsung (again) wasn't the only pressing business for Kodak today, as it just announced it has -- as expected -- filed for Chapter 11 business reorganization in New York. You can read the details in the press release after the break or at the Kodak Transforms website, where Chairman and CEO Antonio Perez is quoted saying he hopes Kodak will "emerge a lean, world-class, digital imaging and materials science company". Media Create reports that Sony saw only 18,361 units sold in Japan during the week of January 9 to January 15, its fourth week on the market. By comparison, the cheaper Nintendo 3DS dropped somewhat after the holiday rush as well, but not down to Vita levels, pushing a decent 100,668 units out to paying customers. (more)

A Scorned George Lucas is Retiring from Hollywood

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2158 days, 11 hours, 25 minutes ago
Thursday, January 19, 2012 9:26:35 AM GMT
Ok, we're sorry, George, for bashing the prequels. We're sorry for ridiculing you over hacking the original flicks with added CGI, revised scenes and so on. Honestly, we didn't mean to hurt your feelings and push you into retirement. Did you ever stop think that maybe we were just trying to send you a message to leave it all alone? It was great. It was perfect. We consumed it like kids at an all-you-can-eat chocolate buffet. Revisions and additions just weren't necessary.... and neither is 3D. (more)

Five games we could really Kinect with

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2160 days, 11 hours, 12 minutes ago
Tuesday, January 17, 2012 9:39:20 AM GMT
Kinect, as it stands right now, is a "pretty cool" thing. As a supplement to the general operation of an Xbox 360, it's hard for me to imagine living without it now that it's in my home. As an accessory designed for the purpose of playing games, it meets with significantly less success. While there are a few stand-out titles such as Dance Central, Kinect has failed thus far to move beyond a novelty because there simply isn't enough high-quality software demonstrating how great it could be. Portabliss: Run Roo Run (iOS)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2160 days, 11 hours, 16 minutes ago

It's a simple platformer that avoids the problems so many iOS platform games face, by combining a traditional-style platformer with auto-run mechanics. The levels are smaller and more carefully designed than most auto-runners, so you still have tricky, precise jumps planned out by an evil genius, but protagonist Roo runs automatically like in a Canabalt-type game, sparing you the heartbreak of having to deal with virtual directional controls. Razer tests the waters with Project Fiona at CES

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2160 days, 11 hours, 17 minutes ago
Tuesday, January 17, 2012 9:34:41 AM GMT
Razer's Project Fiona looks just like you'd expect a prototype to look. Despite a thick but standard tablet-style body and 10.1 inch touchscreen, it has some unfinished aluminum struts sticking out of either side, with not-quite-perfect joysticks and buttons placed unceremoniously on the top. In short, it's a manufactured idea and not a real product just yet. And Razer's purpose at CES last week was to judge, reps told me, just how good that idea actually was. (more)

The 2.0 update for Super Mario Bros. Crossover, coming in Q1 2012, gives the homemade blend-em-up a bit more flash and a wider spectrum of nostalgia. And the new SNES and Gameboy visuals don't detract from the game's real purpose, which is to destroy that aloof minion Lakitu in new and interesting ways. (more)

When you're producing chips for the iPad and iPhone, you need a serious facility to meet those demands. In fact, Bloomberg is reporting that Sammy has "sent requests for proposals to banks to borrow as much as $1 billion to expand production capacity at its factory in Austin, Texas," with the bonds to be issued by Samsung's US unit. Judge attacks Oracle's 'stratospheric' damages claim against Google, postpones trial

When the company initially demanded $6.1 billion from Google in recompense for alleged violations of its Java patents, Alsup laughed that figure out of court and suggested $100 million might be closer to the mark (more)
