NBA Jam: Balls, nets and honey badgers

I confess that I don't know much about basketball, but if I had known that honey badgers played it I would have been all over it. For obvious and logical reasons honey badgers will feature in NBA Jam: On Fire Edition. It will be available on PSN and Xbox Live on October 5th. If you can't wait that long feel free to risk your life by challenging a real honey badger to a game or two. (more)

Hands-on: Battlefield 3 single-player campaign

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2254 days, 2 hours, 24 minutes ago
Saturday, September 17, 2011 9:34:07 AM GMT
I am no stranger to the Battlefield series, at least not the console iterations. After sinking hours of my time into both Bad Company games and even convincing family and friends to buy the game so that we could spend countless evenings going online and 'squadding up' in both Rush and Conquest modes, I gradually weaned myself off. TGS: Hands-on with Lumines Electric Symphony

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2254 days, 2 hours, 25 minutes ago
Saturday, September 17, 2011 9:33:09 AM GMT
The TGS demo for this sequel was really short, like 1.5 stages short. I got to refresh my block dropping skill on the first stage, a pink and grey colored throb-fest that looked fantastic on the Vita's screen. Blocks seemed to pop off the screen, and now they're 3D. From there the game moved on to a more mildly colored level where windmills spun in the background. And just when I got into it the screen faded to black and thanked me for playing. That's all there was. (more)

One of the two new games Square Enix announced for the Vita (in this case, also for the vanilla PSP), Lord of Apocalypse looks to be another JRPG affair, full of love, loss and betrayal -- at least, that's what we assume. All of this stuff is in Japanese! (more)

The sound and fury of BF3's Operation Guillotine (with first 360 footage)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2254 days, 2 hours, 29 minutes ago
Saturday, September 17, 2011 9:29:58 AM GMT
The thing that never quite comes across in all of the footage EA and DICE have released is how likely Battlefield 3 is to get you kicked out of your apartment. Take this video, for example. It looks great. We're seeing the Frostbite 2 engine at night, for a change, and that light mortar? Awesome. And there are plenty of explosions in there, and gunshots, and yeah, they seem loud. But the videos just don't cover it. (more)

Tetris played on 6-foot LED matrix, controlled by DDR mat

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2254 days, 2 hours, 40 minutes ago

Watching two people play Tetris against each other is only slightly more entertaining than watching your stoner friends duke it in marathon Tekken sessions (read: not entertaining at all). But, we gaurantee the video after the break is more interesting than it sounds. A trio of MIT students recreated the classic falling block game with six-foot tall arrays of LEDs (no cutesy Russia-inspired graphics here) and passed control duties off to a pair of Dance Dance Revolution mats. Look, just check out the vid... (more)

Today, President Obama signed the America Invents Act into law, formally bringing an end to more than two centuries of American patent law. Once the law takes effect, the "first to invent" standard previously used to determine patent ownership - roughly put, the person who can demonstrate by combination of conception and attempt to put their concept into practice is likely to be declared patent holder in the event of a filing conflict - will be replaced by a version of the "first to file" system favored ... TGS: Armored Core V impressions

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2256 days, 7 hours, 55 minutes ago

Although I appreciate the customization and depth the series offers mech fans, the steep learning curve of the controls and menus always provided a barrier I never dared to pass. Now, From Software (Dark Souls) are meeting me on my own mentally-feeble level by simplifying the game without doing away with its signature speed, difficulty and depth. It’s just the right amount of twitch, strategy and polish to give the series a successful reboot. (more)
