posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2216 days, 10 hours, 40 minutes ago
Saturday, July 30, 2011 8:30:38 AM GMT
Shiver-me-timbers, it looks like the movie studios' latest legal broadside just scored a direct hit against the big bad pirate ship. A UK judge has ordered telecoms giant BT to block its subscribers from visiting Newzbin 2, a site which aggregates Usenet downloads, on the simple basis that BT knows some of its customers are using the site to breach copyright law and therefore has a duty to stop them. This counts as an unprecedented victory for the Motion Picture Association, who brought the case, and it ... (more)

Saturday, July 30, 2011 8:30:12 AM GMT
At $800, Leica's D-Lux 5 is one of the company's more affordable cameras, and it boasts the same trademark, understated style that you'd expect from some of its considerably pricier offerings. Colorware's new custom D-Lux 5, on the other hand, costs $1,200 (or $400 if you send your own camera in), and it can range from somewhat subtle in appearance to downright garish depending on your color choices. Expert Says Blaming Games on Massacres is Racist

Clinical psychologist Christopher Ferguson is reportedly a leading expert on video game violence and mass killings, residing at the Texas A&M International University. He believes that video games aren't to blame for tragic massacres like Columbine and the more recent incident in Oslo, Norway. In fact, he says it's "racist" to put the blame on video games whenever a white male goes on a shooting spree. (more)

BMW Lifts Cover From Carbon Fiber i3 Electric Car

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2216 days, 10 hours, 46 minutes ago
Saturday, July 30, 2011 8:24:01 AM GMT
BMW says that the i3 is all about the future and not just the concept, but also the production model will aim to visualize a futuristic automobile at first sight. The basics of the i3, which is about the length of a Mini, has the height of a small mini van and the width of a 7-series BMW, are not exactly spectacular. There is a 170 hp electric motor and batteries that give the i3 a range of somewhere between 70 and 95 miles. The acceleration is decent at about 8 seconds for the 0-60 mph sprint. (more)

Newest Persona 4 anime trailer features poppy theme song

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2217 days, 15 hours, 3 minutes ago
Friday, July 29, 2011 4:07:11 AM GMT
A new Persona 4: The Animation trailer featuring Rise and Kanji wearing next-to-nothing? I'd say that's exciting enough, since the last trailer was three months ago. But a trailer featuring the show's previously-unheard opening theme song? That's even better! What is best about the trailer is that, except for the version we've posted above, it's only "aired" on the Midnight Channel at midnight every night. So cool! (more)

Mess of men make Middle-Earth in Minecraft

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2217 days, 15 hours, 4 minutes ago
Friday, July 29, 2011 4:06:23 AM GMT
It seems like every week someone creates something new and utterly absurd in Minecraft. With people making everything from a to-scale replica of Hogwarts, a massive network of music boxes that play Portal's "Still Alive", a 3D printer or even the planet Earth, each project blows the old ones away. This time around, a group of guys has recreated the entirety of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-Earth. It's not full-size, with some parts being 1:4 and 1:3 scale, but it's still damned impressive. (more)

Despite the fact that net sales were up year-over-year in THQ's fiscal Q1 (which ended June 30), from $149.4 million to $195.2 million, CEO Brian Farrell still wasn't satisfied. "We are disappointed in our first quarter financial performance," he said in the earnings release. "Sales of Red Faction: Armageddon and our licensed kids titles were below our expectations, and the late release of UFC Personal Trainer also adversely impacted the quarter." (more)

We can't remember a single new WiMAX market being lit up in 2011, meanwhile Verizon just keeps lighting LTE fires all across the country. We've actually given up trying to keep a tally of how many new markets Big Red has launched this year -- there are only so many fingers and toes between the Engadget staff. The carrier just flipped the switch on 28 new markets last week, and now it's announced plans to add at least 15 more on August 18th. (more)

Good thing, then, that SK Telecom is trialing a new service that syncs items from a smartphone app -- like a shopping list -- to its tablet PC-equipped Smart Cart. (more)
