Namco Bandai released a series of SoulCalibur V screens showing two new characters, Zwei and Natsu, and of course Ivy, aged in plotline but not in looks. We don't want to see any older, maternal figures in our real lives wearing this particular outfit, but Ivy can pull it off. (more)

Google celebrates Alexander Calder and spinning things with HTML5 doodle

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2251 days, 2 hours, 41 minutes ago
Sunday, July 24, 2011 9:22:47 AM GMT
How to honor the life's work of an artist who has been dead for more than a quarter-century? Why, an HTML5 doodle on the Google homepage, of course. The search giant paid homage to Alexander Calder, the celebrated inventor of the mobile sculpture with its first doodle created entirely in HTML5 canvas. Those using a laptop with an accelerometer and an updated browser can move the coded sculpture around with their curser. Ironically, we had some difficulty playing around with the image on our mobile devices. (more)

Sunday, July 24, 2011 9:22:24 AM GMT
Stop mourning wannabe rock stars -- Guitar Hero is coming back. We heard the rumors of its demise were greatly exaggerated, but now word has come straight from Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick that the game is currently being reinvented for a modern, more demanding audience. As he told Forbes, "we're going to take the products out of the market, and we're not going to tell anybody what we're doing for awhile... we're going to use new studios and reinvent Guitar Hero. And so that's what we're doing wi... (more)

Google acquires PittPatt, wants to know you on a face-to-face basis

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2251 days, 2 hours, 43 minutes ago
Sunday, July 24, 2011 9:21:35 AM GMT
Google's quietly pitter-pattering its acquisitive ways back into the controversial realm of facial recognition technology. To do that, the company busted out its oversized wallet to fold Pittsburgh-based PittPatt into the Mountain View borg. Founded by a trio of PhD's from Carnegie Mellon University, this three-man strong outfit specializes in the sort of object recognition software you've come to know as "tagging." Is this a reversal of the Do No Evil tech giant's prior waffling on the dubious visioning... (more)

It's gotten its own photo shoot, some cool animation, and the interest of James Cameron -- and now Curiosity finally has a destination. NASA's pluckily-named Mars rover is set to land next to a mountain inside the red planet's 96-mile-wide Gale Crater. The Witcher 2 1.3 patch out now, grab A Sackful of Fluff

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2254 days, 2 hours, 33 minutes ago
Thursday, July 21, 2011 9:31:02 AM GMT
Our two biggest issues with CD Projekt's otherwise wonderful RPG The Witcher 2 were (in order of importance) that the prologue's tutorial was way too rushed, and that our sacks were way too devoid of soft textiles. The developer has announced the arrival of Update 1.3, a patch which adds an item storage system, a Quickload hotkey and support for a number of aspect ratios. The dragon section of the prologue can only be accessed after completing earlier sections, now, so you'll actually know what's going o... (more)

LittleBigPlanet not hindered by PSN outage

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2254 days, 2 hours, 36 minutes ago

During the PlayStation Network downtime in May, many thought the outlook for Sony and its properties looked mighty bleak. Network outages mean lowered consumer trust and, more often than not, a reluctance to return to the service at all. According to Mark Healey, creative director at Media Molecule, that wasn't the case with LittleBigPlanet. (more)

Apple OS X Lion (10.7) review

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2254 days, 2 hours, 39 minutes ago
Thursday, July 21, 2011 9:24:56 AM GMT
Never one to shy away from dramatic hyperbole, Steve Jobs declared ours a "post-PC world" about this time last year, acknowledging a move away from personal computers as smartphones and tablets become even more ubiquitous. And while Jobs might happily look on as iPhones and iPads become our primarily tie to the outside world, the question remains: what happens to the PC during this grand transition? To a large extent, the answer lies in the OS, which brings us to OS X Lion. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome ... (more)

Sure, it's been just a few months since the National Security Agency asked for a $900 million supercomputing complex – you know, to help out with all that internet wiretapping. But concern about deficit spending will mean shuttering 800 other federal data centers in the US, or 40 percent of total government capacity. (more)
