One of the biggest concerns of prospective electric vehicle owners is a fear of limited driving ranges. Although modern electric vehicles have no problems making daily local trips, some owners may decide to pass on purchasing an EV knowing that it can only go so far before needing another charge. Luckily for prospective owners, a brand new metal on the way could lead to a huge increase in EV capabilities (more)

Carmack: Call of Duty hating indie devs are 'snooty'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2226 days, 9 hours, 26 minutes ago
Wednesday, July 20, 2011 9:46:38 AM GMT
id Software's John Carmack has called out "snooty" indie developers who hate Call of Duty thanks to its popularity. He says that criticism of the series is "unfounded" and argues that it works off of a proven formula. "That's still a proven formula that people like, and it's a mistake to [discount that]. As long as people are buying it, it means they're enjoying it," he declared. "If they buy the next Call of Duty, it's because they loved the last one and they want more of it. So I am pretty down on pe... (more)

Team Meat 'doesn't f*cking care' about piracy

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2226 days, 9 hours, 26 minutes ago
Wednesday, July 20, 2011 9:46:03 AM GMT
Piracy will never stop being a controversial topic among gamers, but one unlikely studio doesn't care. Team Meat isn't bothered about Super Meat Boy being ripped off on a massive scale, despite its status as an indie game. "Our game was hugely pirated -- we don’t fucking care," said Tommy Refenes and Edmund McMillen on the Dark Zero Podcast. “If there are let’s say 200,000 copies of Super Meat Boy that are getting passed around for free, that’s 200,000 people who are playing the game. Recall is a time-based first-person puzzler concept worth watching

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2226 days, 9 hours, 28 minutes ago
Wednesday, July 20, 2011 9:44:42 AM GMT
Above is a quick video demo for a game concept called Recall built by a South Korean game developer named Jaewoo Jay Jeon. The intriguing video offers up time-based first-person gameplay in a 3D world. The basic idea seems to be that you can "record" the world and your movement, and then fast-forward, rewind, or pause or playback that recording, affecting either your own character, or various objects in the world around you. Croteam looking for fan-written graffiti for Serious Sam 3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2226 days, 9 hours, 32 minutes ago

In a press release so tongue-in-cheek we're worried about their jawlines, Croteam has announced that its "Lead In-Game Wall Graffiti Artist" has decided to quit the company, leaving an opening for ... well, you. We're pretty sure Croteam is just joking, but the outcome is that it's having a contest for secret graffiti in Serious Sam 3: BFE, asking fans to submit some quick quips that will actually be posted in the game's environments, coded in Arabic and hieroglyphics. If you've ever wondered what companies take your advice (read: complaints) to heart, here's yet another one that is: Sprint. Recently, HTC received oodles of praise from a minuscule-but-passionate group of folks who appreciate the company's stance on unlocking its bootloaders, and today we learned that folks at The Now Network made a similarly impressive change after hearing yet another enthusiastic sect... our readers. Roku has gone from a barely known streaming media box manufacturer to a retail darling in a remarkably short amount of time (the last hardware revamp launched less than a year ago) and it's back with more new hardware to continue the assault. The Roku 2 lineup will put their (much smaller) footprint in the spaces left by their predecessors when they hit shelves later this month without changing the price one bit. Besides being more energy efficient, it brings new channels including Angry Birds, Epix, MLS... (more)

Netflix to stream natively from HDMI-equipped tablets (updated)

Wednesday, July 20, 2011 9:38:16 AM GMT
You read that correctly -- Netflix streaming is about to get really real on impending Honeycomb tablets. One of the nuggets that makes Lenovo's newly unveiled IdeaPad K1 so special is the internal DRM module that allows it to play nice with a fresh build of the Netflix app. As we saw back at MWC with the LG Revolution, future Android 3.x tablets (with an unspecified hardware inclusion) will not only support native Watch Instantly streaming over mini-HDMI / HDMI, but it'll also enable something totally ne... Is The Nintendo 3DS Already Tanking?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2226 days, 9 hours, 36 minutes ago

Tuesday Kotaku pointed out that developers are canceling their Nintendo 3DS projects left and right. Lots of them, or so it seems. It's quite possible that it's all just a coincidence, but the observation follows reports that the new handheld gaming machine is experiencing lower-than-expected sales despite a successful launch. The eCortina v2 hybrid combines the best of traditional electric bicycle features: an electric motor that is capable of powering a bike by itself, and electric motor augmented pedaling. Utilizing a dual drive system, the versatile eCortina hybrid allows the rider to pedal by himself, not pedal at all or pedal with the assistance of the motor. (more)
