The game, originally written in C++, gets the HTML5 treatment and is being translated to JavaScript. The latest snapshot has still ways to go to reach the state of a playable game, but Moeller says that 100,000 lines of code have been moved and technologies such as WebGL with a Canvas2D fallback are working already. As disgusting as it may be to imagine, utilizing human waste to create energy would be a huge leap towards a bright future for developing countries. Most developing countries lack the resources for an affordable and sustainable energy source and are faced with unsanitary water and living conditions. (more)

The developers call it "an affordable do-it-yourself kit for an ecological solar-powered house, prefabrication factory and without any special technical knowledge to install." Google Voice adds spam filter, lets solicitors get caught in the web

Remember when your legitimate emails were flanked by dozens of grammatically nightmarish blurbs, peddling pills, x-rated services, and Nigerian scams? If you use Gmail, most of that garbage no longer arrives in your inbox, instead making its way to a spam folder, where it's held for a month before ending its journey at the Google graveyard. (more)

AT&T launches Sony Ericsson Xperia Play with Gingerbread, blue color option

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2171 days, 12 hours, 51 minutes ago
Wednesday, July 13, 2011 7:41:06 AM GMT
Well, looky here. AT&T has very quietly revealed it's going to sell the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. No press release, no splashy press conference backed by a cheesy disco soundtrack. The thing just showed up at the carrier's holiday preview event here in New York City. We're told it runs Gingerbread, which would make it AT&T's second Android 2.3 handset behind the newly launched HTC Status. Alas, AT&T won't say just yet when the Play will be available or how much it will cost on contract, but ... (more)

Ben Heck is truly a master of manipulating manufactured goods, and nothing proves his mechanical prowess more than his latest creation: an Xbox 360 disc changer. Heck has taken the 360's DVD drive and placed it inside a heavily modified Sony CD changer. He then uses an Arduino microcontroller to control disc selection, and solders the whole kit-and-caboodle onto the 360's motherboard. (more)

Game Informer has posted the first screenshot from Dishonored, the new stealth/action IP from Arkane Studios. As you can see by the gun, sword and garb, the title takes place in an early industrial world -- one with some fantasy twists. Spencer: Halo without Master Chief just isn't as 'centered' on what players want

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2172 days, 12 hours, 24 minutes ago

We're not 100% sure what Microsoft Game Studios head Phil Spencer is trying to say in this quote from E3, but as far as we can tell, he's just happy that Halo 4 is returning the player to Master Chief's head. He says he wants to make sure that the new game "lives up to what I think gamers fell in love with," and for him, that means being the Chief again. (more)

Apple may be looking to add another iPad manufacturer

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2172 days, 12 hours, 25 minutes ago

We've heard that the next iteration of the iPad will be thinner, have a Retina Display, and will bring peace to the Middle East. Here's a rumor that's a little more mundane, and much more likely to be accurate though -- Apple may be adding another manufacturer, alongside Foxconn, to produce its tablet. According to a DigiTimes source the explosion at the company's Chengdu plant in May has created some serious supply issues. (more)

Acer AC700 WiFi goes on sale, is your $350 ticket to the Chromebook club

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2172 days, 12 hours, 25 minutes ago

Good niches don't come cheap, but while $350 isn't exactly a steal, Acer's new AC700 will, at the very least, get you into the wonderful cloud-based world of Chrome OS for a good deal less than, say, Samsung's Series 5. Of course, there are certain sacrifices to be made for the sake of affordability, namely the fact that the current version of Acer's entry into the space is WiFi-only -- a 3G version is set to hit later this summer for, one assumes, a noticeable price bump. The AC700 has an Atom N570 proc... (more)

iOS 5 beta 3 already jailbroken, new features come to light

Who needs sleep, right? Rather than putting in the tried-and-true "eight hours" that your mum still insists that you get, you're going to be doing something a bit more adventurous this evening. Something involving a "jailbreak" of your recently updated iPod touch, iPhone or iPad. Just hours after Apple pushed out iOS 5 beta 3 to its developers, the folks at iPhone Dev-Team have confirmed that a Sn0wbreeze update will support jailbreaking on that very build. (more)

OnLive Revisited: Hands-On the Micro-Console

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2172 days, 12 hours, 27 minutes ago
Tuesday, July 12, 2011 8:05:38 AM GMT
When OnLive threw us all into the clouds earlier last year with its release, it was met with both skepticism and excitement. Would OnLive bring an end to the need of high-powered computer hardware and modern gaming consoles? Many critics praised the system's simplicity and performance while others criticized its lack of titles and its latency issues. So how does the OnLive micro-console fare a little more than half a year after its release? (more)
