Tuesday, June 21, 2011 7:46:49 AM GMT
A couple of weeks ago, there were rumours that Facebook was gearing up to launch a music service in conjunction with Spotify. On Friday, news emerged that Spotify was planning to make its U.S. debut in early July but no mention of Facebook was made. However, new information suggests that Spotify will play a role in Facebook’s efforts to break into the online music business -- it just won't be the only one. (more)

The culprits brought the network to its knees and Sega soon revealed that customers’ personal data had been compromised. This included names, dates of birth, email addresses, and passwords. Hulu adheres to Apple's revised in-app subscription rules, others to fall in line?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2367 days, 1 hour, 44 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 21, 2011 7:45:01 AM GMT
A mere eleven days have passed since Apple relaxed its in-app subscription rules, and now All Things D has stumbled upon screenshots of the first major subscription program to comply. A forthcoming update to the Hulu Plus iOS app will nix all references that previously pointed towards Hulu's own website for signing up new users, allowing Hulu to skirt around implementing Apple's in-app subscription mechanism (and the thirty percent cut that goes along with it). Codemasters takes down GRID PS3 and PC servers

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2368 days, 26 minutes ago
Monday, June 20, 2011 9:02:56 AM GMT
Fans of Codemasters' 2008 racing title GRID received some bad news this weekend: The multiplayer servers for the PC and PS3 versions of the game have been taken offline. A post on the publisher's forums explains, "This follows the decision by a third party provider to decline the offer of an extended contract to continue online play on these platforms." The provider apparently decided the 360 SKU's servers were worth saving -- Xbox Live players still have access to the game's full range on online features. (more)

We've long believed that Diablo fans would glom on to any Diablo-esque game no matter what it was called, but Wizarbox and Focus Home Interactive are really putting that to the test with R.A.W. And yes, as the trailer after the break clearly demonstrates, it's really, honestly called that. (more)

Planck trailer is music to our eyes

We haven't heard too much yet about Planck, Shadegrown Games' music-based shooter, but this video should go a long way towards explaining exactly how it works. As you see after the break, the idea is that you're traveling along shooting items that release "trapped" sounds, building a music track as you move along. There's also a sort of boss battle at the end, though this interview with Shadegrown's Matthew Burns hints that it's a "special encounter," designed to play with the tone of the music rather th... Hamza finds out why Orcs Must Die!

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2368 days, 30 minutes ago
Monday, June 20, 2011 8:59:13 AM GMT
We first got some hands-on impressions of Orcs Must Die! back in February, but Hamza wanted to check in on how the game was doing at E3. So, he talked with Robot Entertainment's Justin Korthof about what the game was like while I shot a bunch of footage of the game. If you've forgotten the premise, there are orcs, they want to get into your Rift, and you have to stop them using a third-person combat mixed with tower defense tactics. (more)

Just recently announced, the game has already caused quite the stir over its controversial title, named after the real-life mercenary group known for using some pretty hardcore tactics in the Middle East. Sony Teases S1, S2 Tablets with Video

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2368 days, 32 minutes ago
Monday, June 20, 2011 8:56:37 AM GMT
Sony today released a teaser video in an attempt to drum up interest for its upcoming S1 and S2 tablet devices. However, though it’s nearly two minutes long, the video doesn’t exactly provide much in the way of new information about the tablets. Worst of all, it doesn’t even hint towards a more specific release date than the ever-vague ‘fall 2011’ we’ve been hearing from Sony. Ah, well, it is only episode one. Perhaps the next one will have more info on these Honeycomb tablets? (more)

Bill Gates will forever be the number one name attached to the company, but the powerful locomotive that steams ahead at Microsoft is clearly Steve Ballmer. So surprising it is, then, to read a rumor that says that Ballmer will step down from his position at Microsoft following the release of Windows 8. Website Windows8update.com said it received a tip from a source that says that the current Microsoft CEO will resign sometime after the launch of Windows 8. (more)
