We know you've all been losing sleep, wondering what exactly Skype integration on webOS will look like. Well, tonight, you should sleep like a baby, knowing you've gotten a solid peak at how the Pre 3 will hande the VoIP service. Similar to Google Voice on Android, you'll be able to either route all international calls through Skype or force is to ask every time you press that precious dial button. (more)

How would you change Nintendo's 3DS?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2253 days, 54 minutes ago
Monday, June 20, 2011 8:40:13 AM GMT
It took 'em longer than anticipated to sell a cool million of these things, but we're guessing the hardcore among us are in that crowd. The Nintendo 3DS is definitely trying something quite different, and while it's tough to tell if the Big N has a bona fide hit on its hands, we're feeling pretty certain that it'll pop out a second edition in due time. To that end, we're interested in hearing what existing owners would change if given the power. Would you tweak the displays in any way? Change up the colo... (more)

TiVo Android and iPhone apps in the works, Season Passes soon at your fingertips

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2253 days, 54 minutes ago
Monday, June 20, 2011 8:39:42 AM GMT
Sure, it's technically been possible to manage one's TiVo via the mobile web for a half-decade now, but earlier methods were neither intuitive nor enthralling. Earlier this year, the company released its iPad app -- a diddy that showcases functions like remote control features, ToDo List prioritizing and Season Pass management. After hinting at a number of apps for smaller-screen devices (boasting all manners of operating systems), the latest print edition of CEPro has delivered solid intel that the afor... (more)

New Windows 8 leak hints at SMS support, feature licensing, geo-location

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2253 days, 55 minutes ago
Monday, June 20, 2011 8:39:05 AM GMT
Considering its adoption of the Windows Phone metro style, its not surprising to hear that Windows 8's latest leaked build sports a metro-inspired virtual keyboard and traces of code that could bring SMS 3G enabled Windows 8 devices. An App store and feature licensing, however? That's interesting. Buried in the Windows 8 code, Microsoft enthusiasts have found strings that may hint at a Windows App store, and the ability to activate or deactivate certain OS features through that store. Will this be the en... (more)

4J Studios is working on Minecraft for XBLA

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2256 days, 1 hour, 29 minutes ago
Friday, June 17, 2011 8:05:09 AM GMT
We know that the Kinect-compatible version of Minecraft for Xbox 360 will be an Xbox Live Arcade title, which should be a good indicator for how much it'll eventually cost when it hits this holiday. It's now been divulged that 4J Studios is the company behind the game. That's the same team who did an amazing job porting the Banjo-Kazooie games to XBLA, among other things. I feel better about this project already, knowing they're doing it. (more)

Call of Juarez: The Cartel wants to show you co-opetition

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2256 days, 1 hour, 29 minutes ago

As a Western movie buff, I'm still not over the fact that they took one of the few decent Western game franchises into the modern era. X-COM? Loved it. XCOM? I'm close to being over that game having that name. It's a game about shooting aliens, harvesting and researching alien tech to use against them, and managing a team. So far, at least some of those elements seem to be in XCOM. So fine, whatever, let's see what they make of it. It might be a good game even though it's not X-COM. (more)

Watch Pikmin transfer a DSiWare game to the 3DS

There are some downsides to transferring your DSiWare games to the 3DS. From what I can tell, your save data doesn't transfer along with your games. That's a sad thing for a Cave Story and PictoBits high score junky like myself to discover after the fact. (more)

Zoom in on these SpyParty Joystiq E3 meetup stats

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2256 days, 1 hour, 32 minutes ago
Friday, June 17, 2011 8:01:35 AM GMT
Playing SpyParty at the Joystiq E3 2011 reader meetup may have been a lot of fun, but it was also serious business. As it turns out, attendees were not only having a good time; they were helping SpyParty developer Chris Hecker collect some important data. During our roughly three hour shindig, only 10 spies were shot during the 35 games that were completed. This confirms our long-held suspicion that Joystiq readers are indeed a crafty bunch. (more)

We like to make fun of PlayStation Home, but it turns out if you put cool stuff there, people will log in. VentureBeat reports over 500,000 people showed up for the festivities, which included interviews and gameplay demonstrations of what was on offer, plus a live stream of Sony's press conference and a virtual recreation of its booth area. Sony did a similar thing last year and pulled in 250,000. (more)

Female Shepard will play a greater role in Mass Effect 3 marketing

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2256 days, 1 hour, 34 minutes ago

For years, when confronted with Mass Effect marketing materials, you've been asking yourself, "Who is that dude?" Trailers, toys, boxart ... he's everywhere. Not only is that dude bland beefcake, but everyone knows that Shepard is a woman. With that said, BioWare's Director of Marketing David Silverman noted on Twitter that the company recently had a meeting about incorporating female Shepard into marketing materials and "are working on the look now." The Nexus One and Nexus S have one thing in common: They’re both official ‘Google Phones,’ which means they get Android updates as soon as they’re available. The fact that you don’t have to wait for your carrier or manufacturer to get their ducks in a line is incredibly valuable to some users, so both phones have proved quite popular. (more)

Three Jailed Over iPad 2 Leaks

Despite the drastic measures Apple will go to keep new products a secret until they launch, it’s still surprising to hear three people have been jailed for leaking information regarding the iPad 2’s design. India's unfortunately-named Sakshat tablet began life as a $10 laptop way back in early 2009 and, in the years since, has had more than its fair share of delays and difficulties. But, after repeatedly dashing hopes and destroying dreams it appears the $35 tablet is just about ready for take off. The Times of India is reporting the first batch of this still slightly mysterious machine will be shipped out at the end of the month to the Indian Institute of Technology for 2,200 rupees apiece (more)

We already know to expect Toyota's Entune infotainment system in the dash of the 2012 Prius, but the hybrid's monster EV batteries will be powering much more than a touchscreen and apps. According to ConsumerSearch, next year's plug-in vehicle will include two new features aimed at improving the car's electric-only range for local driving, especially when your commute also includes a trip down the freeway. Check out Wizorb, a retro block-breaking RPG

This looks like it could be pretty cool. It's a game called Wizorb, releasing soon to PC and Xbox Live Indie Games. You're a wizard on a quest and and that quest includes bouncing a ball off of your staff to break blocks. But it exhibits a lovely degree of polish in the trailer and I'm a big Arkanoid fan, so I'm pretty pumped for it. (more)
