posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2110 days, 14 hours, 46 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 14, 2011 9:14:17 AM GMT
Over the last month or so, Sony has been bombarded with attacks from hackers. However, Sony is not the only one under attack. Nintendo and the UK’s National Health Service have also gotten some attention as of late, though the breaches weren’t quite as damaging as the one that saw Sony lose the personal data of 77 million users. Over the last few days, Codemasters, Epic and the International Monetary Fund were added to the list of companies targeted by hackers. (more)

Between the iPhone and the Mighty Mouse, Apple doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to choosing names already owned by someone else. Heck, the company has even been sued for its use of the name ‘Apple’ (by the Beatles, no less). (more)

Tuesday, June 14, 2011 9:10:51 AM GMT
Apple has been discussing the features of OS X Lion for quite some time. However, a new, previously unmentioned feature has been uncovered by the folks over at MacRumors, and it should please those who don’t want to wait for their computer’s OS to fully boot before checking email or surfing the web. The "Restart to Safari" option appears on the user lock screen, giving you the choice to either log into your user account, or restart to Safari for instant access to the web. (more)

ASUS to ship 300,000 Eee Pad Transformers in June, surpass all non-iPad tablet sales

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2110 days, 14 hours, 50 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 14, 2011 9:09:59 AM GMT
ASUS has had a hard time meeting demand for its Eee Pad Transformer since the device's launch earlier this year, but we clearly don't have component shortages to blame. Jerry Shen, the Taiwanese company's CEO, says that he expects to sell 300,000 of the tablets this month, following shipments totaling 400,000 in April and May. That figure puts the device in the number two spot for worldwide tablet shipments, just behind the prevailing iPad 2. (more)

Nintendo finally sells millionth 3DS unit in Japan, lives in the shadow of older brother

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2110 days, 14 hours, 50 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 14, 2011 9:09:29 AM GMT
A million in (Japanese) sales is a far cry from failure, but even big daddy Satoru Iwata admits the 3DS isn't quite living up to expectations. Nintendo's tenderfoot handheld finally hit the mark after 13 weeks, a snail's pace when compared to the original dual-screen wunderkind, which reportedly made the grade in a mere four. (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2110 days, 14 hours, 51 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 14, 2011 9:08:59 AM GMT
Steve Jobs and co. showed off all kinds of cool new features during the debut of iOS 5 at WWDC earlier this month. We had the chance to take a few of them for a spin, when we tested the beta build of the mobile operating system, and now that more and more folks have tried their hand at iOS 5, more and more features are getting their turn to shine. Here's a list of some of the cooler ones we've seen in the last few weeks. (more)

Apple starts selling unlocked iPhone 4 for $649

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2110 days, 14 hours, 51 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 14, 2011 9:08:29 AM GMT
Not that it'll do you much good in the US -- an unlocked iPhone 4 will still only work on AT&T's 3G bands -- but Apple has just started selling its prized smartphone without any carrier partiality on its US online store. The big attraction is, of course, being able to take the phone abroad and switch MicroSIMs to your heart's content, an experience that most other nations are already well accustomed to. Additionally, though the $649 (16GB) and $749 (32GB) levies may seem rather steep for American buy... (more)

E3: Hamza tells us how he would have made The Darkness II

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2112 days, 16 hours, 4 minutes ago
Sunday, June 12, 2011 7:56:10 AM GMT
The Darkness II has a sweet comic book style mixed with lots of blood and bullets. There are tons of awesome ways to rip, tear, and cut apart your enemies while simultaneously firing your two guns at them. That seems good enough for me, but not for Hamza. If it was up to him, he'd use an ancient evil of unimaginable power to sit around the house and be lazy. Come on, man, have some creativity! (more)

Konami has announced that it would be recasting the voice actors for Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 on the HD collection. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the decision, but James Sunderland's original actor, Guy Chihi, has already formed an opinion -- and accused Konami of trying to duck out of paying him. (more)

Over the course of these videos, Seth does a great job on filling us in on the various systems and concepts that went into building the Street Fighter X Tekken, while Jesse and I remain focused on destroying master Killian once and for all. Round up Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 in August

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2112 days, 16 hours, 9 minutes ago
Sunday, June 12, 2011 7:50:48 AM GMT
Nintendo's E3 roster was so cavernous, and so quietly announced, that we still have at least one more new game to mention: Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2. Almost completely imperceptible in Nintendo's booth except for the piped-in Dragon Quest theme, the DS role-playing spinoff will draw near to North American stores on August 28. (more)

3DS touchscreen tech chosen for DS compatibility

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2112 days, 16 hours, 10 minutes ago
Sunday, June 12, 2011 7:50:09 AM GMT
The 3DS, despite being a higher-end piece of hardware than the DS -- and, yes, bearing a much higher-end price -- still bears the same resistive touchscreen technology as its seven-year-old forebear. Why would Nintendo opt for older touchscreen technology, eliminating the possibility of multitouch and forcing the use of a stylus? (more)

League of Legends shows off new champions, spectator mode at E3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2112 days, 16 hours, 10 minutes ago

Riot Games' League of Legends is one of the biggest free-to-play titles around -- it started off as a spiritual successor to the old Defense of the Ancients mod, but has since grown, strictly by word of mouth and organic growth, up into its own industry. Riot hasn't actually announced player numbers for the title yet, but this is a huge game online, consistently landing in the top spots on Xfire and other services' most-played lists. (more)

Lord of the Rings: War in the North preview: Death from above

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2112 days, 16 hours, 20 minutes ago
Sunday, June 12, 2011 7:39:38 AM GMT
We last saw Lord of the Rings: War in the North back in March, and the mechanics haven't changed much in the version seen on the floor of E3 earlier this week. It's still a three-player co-op game, featuring an elf caster, a human rogue and a dwarf fighter beating down some of the familiar baddies from the Lord of the Rings franchise with a nice layer of RPG on top. The game's not incredible, but it's a more than serviceable action title, made better with a few good friends to play with. (more)

Android Market Gets Compatibility Feature

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2112 days, 16 hours, 21 minutes ago
Sunday, June 12, 2011 7:38:53 AM GMT
One of the nice things about Android is that there are tons of different phones to choose from. However, having such a wide range of devices means there are some inconsistencies along the way. Some devices may not be able to run certain apps for one reason or another, while others can run the same applications just fine. Up until today, Android users had to rely on developers to include any compatibility issues in the description. Not anymore! (more)
