It may be a national holiday in America, but that doesn't mean that Nintendo is taking a day off. There's plenty of DLC coming our way this week. Here's what we've got: (more)

Dragon's Dogma screens lighten the mood

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2336 days, 10 hours, 57 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 31, 2011 8:04:46 AM GMT
Dragon's Dogma wants you all to know about its lighting effects, which is handy because these new screens show off exactly that. Convenient! The latest gallery has a range of scenes at various times of the day in order to show off the range of lighting on offer. From bright sunny vistas to gloomy, shadowy castles, the game has it all. Especially when it comes to fire, since Dragon's Dogma is increasingly looking like a pyromaniac's wet dream. (more)

Handheld Dreamcast systems go on sale in Japan

Under most circumstances, our answer to the question "Should I buy a Dreamcast" is yes. If you don't have a Dreamcast, you should buy a Dreamcast. If you already have a Dreamcast, what if your Dreamcast breaks? What would you do then? Not play Plasma Sword, that's what. (more)

Windows Phone 7 'Mango' update adds greater Avatar interaction

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2336 days, 10 hours, 58 minutes ago

Look, we're really not that into the whole phone thing, but one thing about this YouTube video of the alleged update has caught our eye: Avatar interaction. Sure, we've seen Avatar accosting before on our phone, but the 'Mango' update looks to implement even more ways for your Avatar to act out -- specifically, the emotions of anger, stop poking me and leave me the hell alone. StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm preview: Kerrigan, again

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2336 days, 10 hours, 58 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 31, 2011 8:03:05 AM GMT
When Blizzard announced that StarCraft 2 would be split into three different games years ago, there was quite a bit of weeping and gnashing of teeth -- lots of complaining that the new corporate entity of Activision Blizzard was triple-dipping our wallets. But time heals all wounds and in this case, the great reviews of the full-featured first title didn't hurt either. (more)

Blizzard Dota still on the way, has undergone 'some massive overhauls'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2336 days, 10 hours, 59 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 31, 2011 8:02:13 AM GMT
Blizzard Dota, the Defense of the Ancients-style official mod that was shown off at last year's BlizzCon, is still a work in progress, according to lead producer Chris Sigaty. The other three mods shown last year were released a little while ago to the community, but the Dota mod, which pits all kinds of Blizzard franchise characters up against each other in a real-time battle, needed a little extra work, apparently. Man Gets Stolen Car Back Thanks to Gmail

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2336 days, 11 hours ago

Gmail is one of our favorite webmail services. Its effective junk filtering and mail threading make it a standout choice. Now, one Gmail fan can claim that Gmail helped recover his stolen car. Avrohom Eliezer Friedman awoke one Tuesday morning to discover that his car had been stolen. He told ZDNet, “the car wasn’t worth much - but the plate is priceless.” (more)

A reader wrote in to the DIY hub Adafruit to show off his CNC being operated by a PS3 Sixaxis controller -- mimicking features found on high-end machines that allow you to trigger jobs from a distance and manually control the mill. NTT DoCoMo exhibits on-the-fly speech translation, lets both parties just talk (video)

The race to smash linguistic barriers with simultaneous speech-to-speech translation is still wide open, and Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo has just joined Google Translate and DARPA on the track. Whereas Google Translate's Conversation Mode was a turn-based affair when it was demoed back in January, requiring each party to pause awkwardly between exchanges, NTT DoCoMo's approach seems a lot more natural. Parts of Asia get short changed on PSN Welcome Back gifts

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2337 days, 9 hours, 10 minutes ago

When Sony unveiled its PSN "Welcome Back" gift package to the world, some were impressed to see a few full retail PS3 and PSP games on the list. What's a few weeks of down time and potential identify theft if you can score a free download of LittleBigPlanet or inFAMOUS in the deal? Well, it looks like the “Welcome Back" package for Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia isn't quite as generous. There are a few games that overlap, but there are definitely some big changes. Instead of big-... (more)

Square Enix reveals Heroes of Ruin for 3DS, then hides it

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2337 days, 9 hours, 14 minutes ago
Monday, May 30, 2011 9:47:19 AM GMT
Late last week, Square Enix pulled a bait and switch in the form of a 3DS game tease. The publisher posted some pretty cool artwork to Facebook, then sneakily removed it. This is the Internet, however, so naturally everybody's found out about it regardless. From what's known, the game is called Heroes of Ruin and it's a joint effort between Square Enix and n-Space. The phrase, "Join the fun. More soon," accompanied the art, but of course that tells us bugger-all. A few details are apparently found wi... (more)

Blizzard carves out new info on Diablo 3 runestones

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2337 days, 9 hours, 15 minutes ago
Monday, May 30, 2011 9:46:03 AM GMT
It's been a long time since we've heard much on the new rune system in Diablo 3. For those who have forgotten -- it's been a while since BlizzCon 2008, after all -- Diablo 3 players can modify every class skill with a runestone. In the early version of the system, runestones came in fairly self-explanatory flavors. A multistrike rune, for instance, would add extra hits to a given skill. (more)

Week in Review: The age of hybrid free-to-play

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2337 days, 9 hours, 16 minutes ago
Monday, May 30, 2011 9:45:29 AM GMT
This week, Funcom stunned gamers by announcing that Age of Conan will be headed to free-to-play land this summer... kinda. As Craig "Silirrion" Morrison told us in an exclusive interview, Age of Conan: Unrated will follow the now-familiar pattern of Western F2P conversions, offering a limited number of features for free players and the real deal for full subscribers. Is the F2P transition a concession to the entitlement generation or a timely move in conjunction with the Conan movie that will hit theater... (more)

It’s been a long time since we saw the first Eee PC, and to say the brand has changed a lot would be an understatement. Between all the Eee Slates and Eee Pad Transformers, you'd be forgiven for forgetting about the original Eee PC netbook. However, Asus hasn’t forgotten about the very first Eee PC. In fact, the company is planning a new Eee PC, among other things, and it’ll unveil it next month. (more)
