Signs that the PlayStation Network is dragging itself out of the grave have arrived, with word that developers are now able to take and test their games online. Its status is still sporadic, but the word on the street is that PSN is working. (more)

David Jones joins APB Reloaded in 'advisory role'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2231 days, 11 hours, 39 minutes ago
Saturday, May 14, 2011 8:51:38 AM GMT
You know what they say: If at first you don't succeed, join the team doing the remake. Veteran game developer David Jones, responsible for classics like Lemmings, Grand Theft Auto and Crackdown, made an MMO called APB a little while back that eventually closed up shop in record time. Then, a company called GamersFirst bought the rights to APB, and made plans to redevelop it as APB Reloaded. Now, that same David Jones has joined the free-to-play remake in "an advisory role." SOE announces free month, rewards for players affected by downtime

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2231 days, 11 hours, 39 minutes ago
Saturday, May 14, 2011 8:51:03 AM GMT
Despite initial assurances, Sony Online Entertainment eventually confirmed that yes, it did misplace some of your user data recently, and the company feels really, really sorry about that. It can't actually get the data back, of course (that's not how it works), but SOE says it will do its best to make it up to customers with free stuff, as announced on its blog today. (more)

Yesterday, Microsoft was all too willing to toot its own horn and reveal that 297,000 Xbox 360s were sold in the month of April, but GameSpot says it managed to secure numbers for its competitor, Nintendo. The 3DS was apparently just shy of 200,000 units, unloading 194,000 3DS handhelds on consumers. (more)

Ubisoft: Project Cafe Is Really Fantastic

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2231 days, 11 hours, 41 minutes ago
Saturday, May 14, 2011 8:49:14 AM GMT
Unlike the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii crashed into the scene, grabbed a new sector of gamers, and then slowly fizzled out like a balloon with a small puncture. We saw the decline coming, knowing that the sudden motion-sensing fad would eventually die out leaving players with a lot of cheesy titles. Even publishers like Sega tried to bring hardcore gaming to the console and discovered that there just wasn't a profitable market. (more)

Amazon Says ''Stay Tuned'' On Tablet Front

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2231 days, 11 hours, 42 minutes ago
Saturday, May 14, 2011 8:48:03 AM GMT
Rumors of an Amazon tablet first cropped up on Engadget founder Peter Rojas’s website. Speaking via a post on his two-year-old gadget-centric social networking site, GDGT, Rojas claimed that the tablet would be an Android device scheduled for launch this summer and that he’s “99 percent certain” Amazon has contracted Samsung to manufacture its tablet. Not too long after, Digitimes reported that Quanta had been contracted to build the device and that production would begin in the second half of the year. (more)

Sony's Letter to Publishers Regarding PSN Outage

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2231 days, 11 hours, 43 minutes ago
Saturday, May 14, 2011 8:47:11 AM GMT
Sony has been pretty quiet this week. After missing its deadline for beginning the reintroduction of PSN and Qriocity services, the company has taken to its blog only once. On Tuesday the company posted a short message to say that it would be ‘a few more days at least’ before PSN comes back and that it was sorry it didn’t have anything more to tell users. (more)

Sony Details SOE Compensation Package

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2231 days, 11 hours, 44 minutes ago
Saturday, May 14, 2011 8:46:35 AM GMT
Though Sony’s been quite consistent with its PSN-related updates to the PlayStation Blog, we haven’t seen nearly as many updates for SOE users. The company recently detailed compensation packages for users and revealed that it would offer 12 months of AllClear ID PLUS at no cost to PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders. At the time, there was said to be something similar in the works for SOE users. This week, SOE detailed what it’s doing to ensure users are protected and compensated for the ou... (more)

Consumers are flocking to prepaid about as fast as children to an ice cream truck, and T-Mobile is welcoming them with open arms. Pushing out a competitive and timely response to Verizon's Unleashed plans is vital -- especially given T-Mobile's paltry first-quarter results -- and the company will be ready to match wits with the country's number-one carrier on May 22. Samsung Infuse 4G review

We're just getting into the swing of spring, flowers blooming and skeeters biting, but already it's been a great year for Samsung -- if we ignore the whole lawsuit thing. Just a few weeks ago the company delivered to us our highest scoring Android phone yet, the Galaxy S II and, while that handset has not appeared on American shores, we were graced with the Droid Charge, which offers LTE speed, strong battery life, and an on-contract price that slightly exceeds its design. Robot arm learns to use hammer, mocks pathetic human's attempt to fight back (video)

This guy had a pretty natural reaction upon discovering that the DLR Hand Arm System has learned to use a hammer: he took a bat to the thing. Rather than curbing the inevitable robotic uprising, however, the whole thing just demonstrates exactly how durable the mechanical appendage is, as it resumes normal functionality after the swift blow. The next Ace Combat is set to come out on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 11 in North America and October 14 in Europe. Assault Horizon isn't just going to be the same old Ace Combat as the series takes on a new gameplay system that makes it look like it will be the best in the series yet. The new story is penned by Jim DeFelice, a New York Times' bestselling military author. Plus you won't be just flying planes. You'll get to experience helicopter and door gunner action. (more)

Assault mode unlocked for Section 8: Prejudice

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2233 days, 11 hours, 25 minutes ago

Across PC and Xbox 360, Section 8: Prejudice players have earned a collective, merciless ten million kills. I love it when a community can truly come together to achieve a common goal. As promised, TimeGate has unlocked Assault mode now that this feat has been accomplished. Assault involves the capture and defense of control points in a team-on-team environment. Nothing too fancy, but more content can hardly be complained about. (more)

Last time we saw Ridge Racer Unbounded, it was simply a little teaser. Now we have the first gameplay trailer showing off that this game is looking a lot like Burnout and MotorStorm. Not that that's a bad thing at all, especially since Burnout is an amazing series. What do you think? (more)

We've all done it: There's an empty parking lot, not another driver in sight -- why not tear it up? But what if there was another driver and a third party who, presumably, was responsible for setting up a series of intricate ramps and jumps? Well then, you'd have yourself a Gymkhana battle. (more)
