Mark Rein: Unreal Development Kit 'eventually' coming to Android

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2211 days, 23 hours, 50 minutes ago
Friday, April 08, 2011 8:27:00 AM GMT
Budding Android developers looking to utilize Epic's free Unreal Development Kit know it's still in the works for the platform. Of course, that's not to say the Unreal Engine itself isn't being used on Android -- Dungeon Defenders is perhaps the most visible Unreal Engine 3-powered game on the mobile OS, though a recent deal between Epic and Gameloft ensures that won't be the case for long. Companies can currently license UE3 code to develop Android games, though Epic VP Mark Rein told Gamasutra that "UD... (more)

"Today we're looking at a seamless experience across all our franchises." EA Sports president Peter Moore made this remark while outlining the label's future today during the MI6 video game marketing conference in San Francisco. "Regardless of where you are, what platform you have, what game you're playing, that you're constantly connected," he said, adding that he sees EA Sports games of the future being "connected experiences that recognize users and reward them for playing multiple games." Blizzard releases three official StarCraft 2 mods

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2211 days, 23 hours, 52 minutes ago
Friday, April 08, 2011 8:24:45 AM GMT
Blizzard has finally released three of the four official StarCraft 2 mods it announced at BlizzCon last year -- though, the one that didn't make the cut might surprise you. Players can now download Aiur Chef, which might possibly be the world's first cooking/RTS title; Starjeweled, a gem-swapping puzzler with a few light strategy elements thrown in for good measure; and Left 2 Die, in which players build up their base and train units to defend it when hordes of infected Terran come to play at night. Duke Nukem: Critical Mass trailer skips the PSP version for good reason

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2211 days, 23 hours, 52 minutes ago

After a mysterious quiet period (which is totally uncharacteristic for a Duke Nukem game), Deep Silver and Apogee are planning to release Duke Nukem: Critical Mass for DS this week in Europe and next month in North America. You can see it in action in the trailer after the break, and, well ... it looks like a thoroughly humiliating experience, narrated by Jon St. John. (more)

Old Lady Hacks Off Armenia's Internet with Shovel

Friday, April 08, 2011 8:21:44 AM GMT
A 75-year-old woman in Georgia is facing a prison sentence after she knocked out a large portion of Armenia and Georgia’s internet for a number of hours. While searching for copper scrap, the woman is said to have damaged fiber optic cabling that provides 90 percent of Armenia and much of Georgia with internet access. Armenians were reportedly without internet access for 12 hours while Georgians were without access for five. Web users in Azerbaijan were also affected. (more)

You still can't play them with an iCade cabinet just yet -- though that's coming, in June -- but Atari has now delivered quite a present to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners. The company has just released its Greatest Hits collection for iOS devices, which includes 18 classic arcade games and 82 Atari 2600 games -- those available either in 25 separate packs for $0.99 apiece, or in one massive time sink bundle for $14.99 (Pong comes free with the app itself). Droid X2 reappears in the wild, still indistinguishable from Droid X

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2211 days, 23 hours, 56 minutes ago

You've seen it before and now you're seeing it again. The Droid X2 that Motorola seems unwilling to announce has made another unsanctioned appearance in the wild. It's still rocking Android 2.2 and there's sadly no indication of any LTE goodness for it, but we suspect the changes that justify the 2 in its name will be happening under the hood. (more)

Oscium's iMSO-104 turns iPad, iPhone into mixed signal oscilloscopes

We've seen oscilloscopes repurposed as clocks and MAME machines, but we hardly ever see the pendulum swing in the opposite direction. The iMSO-104, however, actually turns your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch into an oscilloscope display. Using a Cypress Semiconductor system on a chip, the iMSO-104 touts a 5MHz bandwidth and as much as 12 megasamples per second, and connects to your device by way of the dock connector -- according to its maker, it's also the world's smallest and most portable oscilloscope. If you had any doubts about HTC's Incredible S making it to our shores, they're probably dissipating as we speak -- not only has the phone obtained Verizon's shiny red checkmark, it's now got the robotic eye of Sauron staring at us with ferocious intensity. PocketNow obtained these pictures of the likely Droid Incredible 2 without naming so much as an anonymous source, and we wouldn't be surprised if it's Verizon's way of reminding us that the handset is rapidly on its way to market. NBA Jam: On Fire Edition drives to PSN, XBLA this October | Joystiq

Wednesday, April 06, 2011 8:14:45 AM GMT
EA Sports is working on a follow-up to last year's reboot of NBA Jam, but this one's going download-only. NBA Jam: On Fire Edition is set to take the court in October for both PS3 and Xbox Live (no Wii release announced) and will arrive via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, respectively. It's worth noting that last year's game was a full $50 retail release, but a stripped-down version was originally planned as a downloadable title free to those who purchased new copies of the ill-fated NBA Elite 11.
