THQ putting Kung Fu Panda 2 on Kinect, uDraw, DS and PS3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2280 days, 20 hours, 38 minutes ago
Thursday, March 31, 2011 8:49:48 AM GMT
We've got evidence to support the existence of a secret, underground contest in the gaming industry to bring a single title to the strangest, most random collection of platforms imaginable. Our proof? THQ's recently outlined release strategy for Kung Fu Panda 2 -- an adaptation of Dreamworks' upcoming animated feature, which will have a PS3 version, DS version, a Kinect-enabled 360 version and a uDraw GameTablet version on Wii. Like, a contest's the only possible explanation, right? (more)

According to a report from Nikkan (as translated by Andriasang), Nintendo's planning on getting its proverbial ducks in a row with the construction of a new 12-billion-yen Research and Development facility in Kyoto's Minami Ward -- the same location as its Japanese headquarters. The gargantuan building will house 1,500 employees focused on product development, and is scheduled to break ground January 2012, with a projected completion date sometime the following year. (more)

We usually tint stories about in-game digital goods that people bought with out-of-game, for-real money with notes of disbelief -- but for this particular post, we've got nothing but heartwarming respect. The three hats recently added to Team Fortress 2, available for a charitable donation of $7.99, $19.99 or $99.99, have pulled in over $300,000 in just one week for disaster relief in Japan. (more)

Fez on WiiWare not 'worth our time and effort,' dev says

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2280 days, 21 hours, 11 minutes ago
Thursday, March 31, 2011 8:16:48 AM GMT
It's pretty likely that Fez won't be gracing WiiWare, judging from some not-so-nice things one of the developers had to say regarding Nintendo's platform. Phil Fish, the game's co-creator, told Destructoid back at PAX East that "WiiWare just wouldn't be worth our time and effort," and described it as "a dismal system" that he avoids as both a consumer and a developer. "No demos? F*ck off," he concluded. Of course, there are demos on WiiWare now, but for years that wasn't the case. (more)

With the launch of Sony Ericsson's Android-powered "PlayStation Phone," the Xperia Play, supposedly right around the corner, Google has pulled the plug on a prominent PSOne emulator for its mobile OS. According to its author, "zodttd," PSX4Droid was removed from the Android Market without warning due to a "Content Policy violation," though he suspects it has more to do with Sony's imminent smart phone offering. "Sony's Xperia Play must be coming soon," tweeted the dev, adding that, "The timing is suspici... (more)

Nintendo has recently been making headlines for its 3DS handheld console. The first console to sport glasses-less 3D technology, many assumed that Nintendo might decide to apply this tech to its next console. Despite Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata saying they'd "probably do [3D] with the next system," once 3DTV adoption rates hit around 30 percent, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has shot down the possibility of a 3D Wii 2 with recent comments to CNN. Microsoft's 'updated Xbox 360 disc format' to add an extra gigabyte?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2280 days, 21 hours, 15 minutes ago

As you'll recall from yesterday, there was one small detail that stood out in Microsoft's announcement of a new preview program for the Xbox 360 -- namely, word that the latest system update would bring with it an "updated Xbox 360 disc format." That naturally prompted plenty of speculation, and Eurogamer now says it has heard from a "highly placed development source" who has confirmed that the new disc format actually adds 1GB (more)

That's the film Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. Uh oh, the day has finally come. We just gathered from Joystiq (and confirmed ourselves) that the renowned Android first-gen PlayStation emulator, PSX4Droid, has been pulled from the Market. The reason? Its author, ZodTTD, said Google informed him that it was a matter of "Content Policy violation," however the fact it's taken eight months for Google to take action suggests it might have a little something to do with the imminent launch of the Xperia Play, (more)
