Will the Uncharted film turn its back on the games?

posted by adminadmin 2486 days, 55 minutes ago
Tuesday, February 22, 2011 8:33:21 AM GMT
David O. Russel's had a lot of plans for the Uncharted movie, and those plans have already raised some eyebrows amongst fans of the series. Mr. Russel told Ain't it Cool News that he does not want to make "a film that was a knockoff of a game that's not going to be around," but that he does want to make Uncharted "into a world that has a family dynamic in it akin to The Sopranos or akin to other worlds." Retrospective follows the 2003 theft of Half-Life 2's code

posted by adminadmin 2486 days, 58 minutes ago
Tuesday, February 22, 2011 8:30:21 AM GMT
Half-Life 2 was never destined to release on time. It is a Valve project, after all. However, Gabe Newell and company couldn't have predicted that -- months before its expected release -- the game's source code would be stolen and distributed on the internet. "Is this going to destroy the company?," a designer supposedly asked Newell when it happened in 2003. (more)

Call of Juarez: The Cartel ban proposed in Mexico

posted by adminadmin 2486 days, 1 hour, 6 minutes ago
Tuesday, February 22, 2011 8:22:07 AM GMT
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Call of Juarez: The Cartel has angered officials in Mexico. State legislators in the border town of Ciudad Juarez (located in the state of Chihuahua) have asked the Mexican government to impose a ban, arguing that the game's content could potentially make light of recent drug violence across the region and cause children to grow up with a "lack of values." Cave porting Deathsmiles to iPhone for spring release | Joystiq

posted by adminadmin 2486 days, 1 hour, 7 minutes ago
Tuesday, February 22, 2011 8:21:39 AM GMT
Along with its big Xbox 360 release announcement, shooter company Cave had some good news for iPhone fans at its event over the weekend. Deathsmiles, the flying-magical-girl shooter released on Xbox 360 last year, is coming to iPhone and iPod Touch. "From arcade to Xbox 360," the trailer reads; "and then, from Xbox 360 to iPhone." Deathsmiles will be released in spring. Unlike packaged games, Cave can self-publish on iOS, and it's been good about localizing its games in a timely manner. So the insane ... (more)

Black Ops outmaneuvers Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on UK charts

posted by adminadmin 2486 days, 1 hour, 7 minutes ago
Tuesday, February 22, 2011 8:21:07 AM GMT
Call of Duty: Black Ops received some marketing reinforcements last week in the UK to regain the top spot, its eighth time as king of the hill. The move stole Marvel vs. Capcom 3's premiere Thor thunder, as the fighter debuted in second place. Don't feel too bad for MvC3, though -- Chart-Track notes that the title sold as many copies in its first week as its predecessor did in its lifetime on PS2 and Xbox (the company doesn't have access to the XBLA and PSN figures). The unsanctioned iPhone version of Minecraft might have been taken down like a shoddy lean-to during a zombie invasion, but it'll be replaced this year by something way better: an official version developed by Mojang. Minecraft creator Markus Persson told Gamasutra that a new Mojang employee, Aron Neiminen, is working on the port with a release targeted for 2011. (more)

Apparently, LucasArts needs just a little more time than it anticipated to adequately polish the lightsabers of Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars -- the game has been pushed from its initial February 15 release date to March 22. Namco releases single-level Pac-Man Battle Royale iPad demo

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2508 days, 2 hours, 15 minutes ago
Monday, January 31, 2011 7:13:19 AM GMT
To help boost anticipation for its upcoming multiplayer arcade title Pac-Man Battle Royale for the billions of people who haven't played it at various gaming industry events, Namco America has dropped a brief demo for the game on the iPad App Store. The free trial lets two to four players play simultaneously, gobbling up pellets, ghosts and each other -- unfortunately, the thing only lasts for a single stage. We know! How unsatisfying. (more)

Japanese hardware sales, Jan. 17 - Jan. 23: Groundhog Day Safety edition

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2508 days, 2 hours, 17 minutes ago

As you may know, the annual observance of large, ridiculously named rat-based meteorology is almost upon us. As you may not know, there are a number of major hazards associated with the holiday that you can start preparing for now, tonight, right now. For instance, did you know that one out of every ten people actually do get stuck in a 24-hour time loop every Groundhog Day? It's true. It's absolutely true. We wouldn't lie to you, because lying is not our purview. Safety is our purview. (more)

Crytek discussing possibility of TimeSplitters 4, needs Crysis 2 shipped first

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2508 days, 2 hours, 17 minutes ago

Our anticipation for Crysis 2 just skyrocketed for a terrible, terrible reason. See, in a recent interview with CVG, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli responded to a query about the possibility of a new entry in the TimeSplitters franchise by saying, "Yeah, we have been discussing it, but nothing has been confirmed yet, so let's see after Crysis 2." The developers of the chronologically unstable series, Free Radical, were purchased by Crytek back in 2009, and now have their hands full with developing Crysis 2's mul... (more)

Bulletstorm PC requires persistent Internet (update)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2508 days, 2 hours, 20 minutes ago
Monday, January 31, 2011 7:08:41 AM GMT
Fans of PC DRM have something to celebrate today, with news that Bulletstorm will demand a constant online connection in order to be played. More like Bullshitstorm, right guys? It seems Electronic Arts is going to "pull an Ubisoft" while "protecting" People Can Fly's ludicrous shooter from common thieves. The news comes from EA's own product disclosure page, where it states, "PERSISTENT INTERNET CONNECTION AND ACCEPTANCE OF END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT REQUIRED TO PLAY." (more)

See 493 Pokemon evolve into 487 anime girls (and 6 guys)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2508 days, 2 hours, 23 minutes ago

Like with that gender-bending Street Fighter fan art and maybe-creepy Roll artwork we recently posted, I have a feeling that this Pokemon fan-art is going to draw some polarizing opinions. It's undeniable that it took a lot of time and creative energy to think of 493 anthropomorphic equivalents to match each and every Generation 1-4 Pokemon, and a lot of them are pretty brilliant. I tried to put the best of the best of them in the image above, but I didn't even come close. Slowbro is particularly amazing. (more)
