Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich has a few ideas about what Sony meant by "an affordable price that's appropriate for the handheld gaming space" when talking about the NGP's launch price. Speaking with GamesIndustry, Divnich predicted that the device would retail for between $299 and $349 at launch, which ... um, seems a little high when compared to other contenders in the "handheld gaming space." Google is Really Disappointed with App Sales

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2487 days, 20 hours, 49 minutes ago
Friday, January 28, 2011 7:15:01 AM GMT
Over the last few years we seen more Android device launches than we care to remember. However, despite the fact that there’s no shortage of Android devices or users, there seems to be a shortage of people actually paying cold, hard cash for Android apps. Forbes cites Google’s Android Platform Manager Eric Chu as saying Google is “not happy” about the purchases of paid apps. (more)

The 3DS's "Activity Log" uses the built-in pedometer to track your steps, awarding players "Play Coins" for certain distances. Those Play Coins can then be used for unspecified unlocks within supported games. According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, this was included for two related reasons. (more)

The turn-by-turn navigation specialists at Navigon are pairing up their MobileNavigator iPhone app with an official Car Kit today, debuting at MacWorld out in San Francisco. As you might expect, said kit includes the usual array of car-mount necessities -- a USB car charger, an Apple-approved 5-foot iPhone cable, and the suction-style mount itself, which the company describes as "a stylish example of German tech design" featuring a "barely there look" that won't detract from your car's sumptuous, indulge... Screen Shot: Facebook to Get Voice Calling

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2487 days, 20 hours, 53 minutes ago

A Facebook user sent the following screenshot to the Daily What claiming that a call option had appeared on his screen while he was chatting to his friend. It didn’t stick around for long, and the “call” didn’t connect when he tried using it, but it definitely lends credence to rumors that Facebook has been preparing a kind of VOIP-calling feature for Facebook chat. It looked for a moment like Geohot and fail0verflow might beat Sony's DMCA lawsuit over the PS3 jailbreak on a jurisdictional technicality, but things didn't go their way: the US District Court for the Northern District of California granted Sony's request for a temporary restraining order forbidding Mr. Hotz and his merry men from distributing or linking to the jailbreak... Sony's next PSP (codename NGP): a closer look

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2487 days, 20 hours, 54 minutes ago
Friday, January 28, 2011 7:10:07 AM GMT
Following the unveil of its bodacious next generation portable (NGP) PlayStation device, Sony let a swarm of journalists (including us) on stage to get a closer look at the PSP's dual-stick, quad-core successor. No touching, but we were able to direct our lens mighty close and compare the NXP with a PSP and PSP Go before the on-hand staff shooed us away. Enjoy the pictures (more)

Rumor: Sentinel spotted in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 [Update]

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2488 days, 18 hours, 47 minutes ago

Update: It's not looking like a rumor anymore. Also, it looks like Hsien-Ko and Galactus appear in the same magazine. Hsien-Ko appears on both the magazine's character profile page, and in the game's character select screen (implying that she's playable), while Galactus only appears on the character profile page, implying that he is a non-playable boss (at least for now)] (more)

Spoiler: The Last Story looks awesome

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2488 days, 18 hours, 48 minutes ago

Xen0fan4, the Youtube member who uploaded this video, seems to think that it's a spoiler. Maybe my limited Japanese comprehension is causing me to miss something, but I don't see how any of this is spoiler material. There is some "getting to know you" conversation, an out stretched tongue, a song, some star gazing, a bit of surprisingly effective comedy, and that's it. More than anything else, this video shows me how well crafted The Last Story is. If a game can make incidental stuff like this fun to wat... (more)

PlayStation Phone hands-on shows emulated PS1, GBA games

By now, it's safe to call the long-rumored PlayStation Phone one of the worst-kept secrets in the history of the tech/gaming world. Engadget posted photos of the Android-powered device three months ago, and since then, we've seen video of the phone to further confirm its existence. It's reportedly called the "Xperia Play," and Engadget has now published a comprehensive preview based on a prototype that has been "floating around in China." (more)

Mock it up, talk it up and leak it out all you want, only Sony has the power to actually bring the so-called "PSP2" into the world -- and that moment has come. The "sequel" to the PlayStation Portable was made official today (like, just now!) during a press event in Japan, looking every bit as -- well, that thing looks like the PSP, doesn't it? (more)

5th Cell's 'Hybrid' to feature persistent online war

Thursday, January 27, 2011 9:08:39 AM GMT
5th Cell continues to hold back details on its XBLA shooter Hybrid, but the developer has released one key nugget that recalls games like PlanetSide and Chromehounds. Hybrid will feature a "a persistent online world war" with "hundreds of thousands" of players on a "single, unified world server." As always, the war will be waged between the blue team (the Paladins) and red team (the Variants), as the two sides fight to control "territories and countries, leading to global domination" on what appears to b... Nintendo 3DS more resistant to piracy, claims Nintendo UK manager

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2488 days, 18 hours, 57 minutes ago

Before all you Zero Cools and Crash Overrides out there start taking the headline you see above as a challenge, we'd like to note that Nintendo wasn't intending on baiting would-be hackers regarding its forthcoming 3DS' hackability (or lack thereof). "It's always like a red rag to a bull isn't it? I almost don't want to comment on that sort of thing," Nintendo UK general manager David Yarnton said in an interview with CVG recently. (more)
