One of the main reasons I even got into watching the WWE when I was younger was because of the female wrestlers like Trish Stratus and Stacy Keibler. What? I'm a guy. Deal with it. (more)

And that, my dear readers, is the sound of 3DS purchasers -- more than just those already into Team Ninja's brand of fighting games -- collectively starting to care about Dead or Alive Dimensions. Such a thing shouldn't be audible, but man, the people are fired up. (more)

Yuji Naka unveils 'Machinist of the Sky Rodea' for Wii and 3DS

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2253 days, 22 hours, 5 minutes ago
Thursday, January 20, 2011 8:02:25 AM GMT
Here's something refreshing: 3DS news that isn't from a Nintendo event. The latest Famitsu magazine unveiled a new 3DS and Wii game by Yuji Naka and Prope: Machinist of the Sky Rodea, published by Kadokawa Games. Machinist is an anime-style flight game in which you control a character's flight by pointing (with the Wii remote, at least) and shaking, then pressing B in mid-air to fly in different directions. The A button fires projectiles or launches spinning attacks (more)

GDC giving Molyneux lifetime achievement award, tapping Schafer to host again

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2253 days, 22 hours, 20 minutes ago
Thursday, January 20, 2011 7:46:57 AM GMT
That's right, one of the most prominent game designers to hail from that magical land across the pond (Merlin and dragons, anybody?) is going to be honored at GDC 2011 with a lifetime achievement award. Peter Molyneux, best known for the creation of the "god game" genre (and child coercion), will be honored during the show's Game Developer's Choice Awards. Not a bad way to celebrate a career that's over 23 years in the making. (more)

The (admittedly incomplete) history of gaming in 4 minutes

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2253 days, 22 hours, 23 minutes ago
Thursday, January 20, 2011 7:44:32 AM GMT
An (almost) one-shot video chronicling the evolution of console gaming by design students from Germany may be incomplete (they acknowledge as much), but it's the clever presentation that makes it worth watching. The piece hits major points by kicking off with the Oscilloscope from 1958, the NES from the 80s and then does its best to keep up after the 16-bit generation kicks in during the '90s. (more)

Digital Foundry pits PS3 Mass Effect 2 against Xbox 360 original

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2253 days, 22 hours, 23 minutes ago
Thursday, January 20, 2011 7:44:31 AM GMT
Not satisfied with its analysis of the PS3 Mass Effect 2 demo -- which was apparently based on old code -- Digital Foundry has posted a lengthy comparison of the PS3 and Xbox 360 retail editions of Mass Effect 2. There's a lot of information to digest in the article, including several videos and screenshots. The upshot: Most gamers won't notice the differences between the two games, though it seems the 360 version barely edges out the PS3 one in terms of a consistent frame-rate. (more)

Marvel vs. Capcom 3's alternate costumes' comic book origins explored

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2253 days, 22 hours, 24 minutes ago
Thursday, January 20, 2011 7:43:19 AM GMT
Apparently, a little bit more thought went into the alternate costumes of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 than just "hey, this outfit would probably look cool in red and black." IGN recently explored the canonical comic book origins of a handful of Marvel fighters' extra duds, including Storm's crimson X-Treme X-Men get-up, Dormammu's Strange Tales green-and-yellow armor, and Captain America's Red Guardian costume, which, as you probably sussed out, is pretty red. Of course, it's hard to keep up with the madness, so they opened a blog for budding designers to submit their own nightmares for consideration. The latest logic-warping wristwatch to graduate from this blog is the Kisai Console. (more)

Remember the girl who walked into a manhole because she was too busy texting to look where she was going? The Staten Island teen fell between four and five feet into a sewer while Department of Environmental Protection workers had their backs turned (they were actually grabbing cones to mark the open manhole). Well, here’s another instance of textually impaired walking. (more)

Tomorrow's the big day: Nintendo's 3DS preview event in New York City. We already know a lot about the no-glasses-needed 3D handheld, but we've got just as many blanks that need filling in ... like the price, or the North American release date. And perhaps there may be a couple "unexpected revivals" in store as well. And it all goes down just over twelve hours from now at the times listed below.
