Road Blaster drives recklessly to iOS, available now for a buck

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2294 days, 19 hours, 15 minutes ago
Monday, January 17, 2011 8:01:46 AM GMT
Revolutionary Concepts' cleaned-up iPhone/iPad port of the FMV car game Road Blaster may not have hit its original September 2010 release date, but that hardly matters now, because it's available now. Similar to Cobra Command, this is an updated version of a Data East arcade game, featuring vehicular mayhem rendered in traditional 2D animation. (more)

Fans continue their attempts to make a better Sonic game than Sega can -- this time, by remaking one of the franchise's all-time favorites. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 HD is an update to the Genesis classic that, barring any ceast and desist letters, should be available to everyone in alpha form in "Q1" of this year. (more)

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a pretty fantastic game. So it comes as no surprise that some enthuastic fans have taken it upon themselves to create even more levels for the game. The project is dubbed Super Mario Galaxy 2.5 and, should it reach completion, will offer some of the most challenging 3D Mario levels created thus far. (more)

So you’ve heard all about the BlackBerry Dakota and while it’s a nice phone, it’s not quite what you’ve been hoping for. You see, you quite liked the BlackBerry Torch slider that RIM just recently released; you just thought it fell short in the specs department. (more)

Three iPad dummy SKUs appear at Best Buy website

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2294 days, 19 hours, 19 minutes ago
Monday, January 17, 2011 7:58:16 AM GMT
There's not much to see here, folks, just a few listings on Best Buy's website for Apple iPads that don't currently exist. They could be the result of a database error, an employee prank, or even just wishful thinking. Still, between well-placed sources informing us that a super-high-resolution, SD-card bearing, dual-mode iPad 2 is on the way and a feeling of déjà vu, we can't help but think there might be a rather exciting prize behind doors number one, two and three. Or perhaps just a Verizon iPad. We'... (more)

Transportation, Wireless Research shocker! Keyless car entry systems can be hacked easily, elegantly

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2294 days, 19 hours, 20 minutes ago
Monday, January 17, 2011 7:57:08 AM GMT
We know you are vigilant enough not to trust your car's security to a wireless system, but plenty of other folks like the convenience of putting away the metallic keys and getting into their vehicles with a bit of Bond-like swagger. Professor Srdjan Capkun of ETH Zurich found himself perched on the fence between these two groups when he recently purchased a vehicle with a keyless entry system, so he did what any good researcher would: he tried to bypass its security measures. Italy's Mediaset sends 3D content over terrestrial connection, isn't actually broadcasting 3D TV

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2294 days, 19 hours, 21 minutes ago

While Mediaset appears to be (one of) the first to convey 3D content over a terrestrial connection, it isn't actually serving up any 3D television -- it is "datacasting" or ever-so-slowly downloading 3D movies to a set-top box, which you may later consume directly from the hard drive that received them. GameStop thefts are nothing out of the ordinary. I've been tempted to break into my local that get the backdated pre-order bonuses they display behind the counter, but aren't giving away. Still, this guy had the right idea -- break into a different place, and then tunnel in through the wall. (more)

Dead Space 2 seems every bit as frightening, as innovative as the original. Developers Visceral Games still lean heavily, and quite successfully, on clever use of lighting and sound to create a constant tension in the creepy, space shooter. (more)

NPD: Epic Mickey sells 1.3 million and other surprises

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2295 days, 18 hours, 31 minutes ago

There aren't a lot of surprises here, but I was personally shocked to see Epic Mickey come in sixth in overall sales for December. Going by these numbers from the New York Times, it looks like the game sold approximately 1.3 million units in December alone. Looks like Wii exclusivity might not have been such a bad idea after all. (more)

Hey, do you feel like getting super bummed out? Don't feel weird about it -- we all get in those moods, sometimes. Usually we just curl up on the couch with our coffee-flavored ice cream and pop in A Walk to Remember, but if you're looking for something a little more non-dairy, you may want to check out indie developer Sir Realism's new iOS title, iCarus. (Not to be confused with iCarly, though we doubt anyone reading this particular blog would make that mistake.) (more)

Gritty Mortal Kombat concept trailer getting a webisode series

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2295 days, 18 hours, 46 minutes ago
Sunday, January 16, 2011 8:30:49 AM GMT
Remember that super violent, Michael Jai White-fronted trailer for a Mortal Kombat film reboot that magically appeared on the internet last summer? Well, sadly, it failed to sell Warner Bros. on the prospect of turning the trailer into a full, proper film -- but that doesn't mean the project is totally dead. According to horror fan site Bloody Disgusting, director Kevin Tancharoen will begin filming a 10-part Mortal Kombat webisode series next month, following in the same gritty vein as last year's pilot. Windows Phone 7 Eats Your Bandwidth Alive

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2295 days, 18 hours, 50 minutes ago

Paul Thurrott reports that his WP7 phone sends "huge chunks of data seemingly in patterns." Prompted by an AT&T email that he was close to his 2 GB data limit, he found that his data usage consistently increased over the months. According to the BBC, other reports claim that WP7 phones send between 30 and 50 MB of data every day and have idle data usage between 2 and 5 MB per hour. (more)
