Sprint Drops Galaxy Tab Price to Just $300

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2381 days, 12 hours, 25 minutes ago
Sunday, January 16, 2011 8:26:16 AM GMT
The fact that CES was awash with tablets confirms what we knew long before we touched down in Vegas: the likes of the iPad and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab have started something big. Unfortunately, with new technologies like Tegra 2 and 4G, products like the Galaxy Tab are already starting to look a little bit out of date. Perhaps that’s why carriers are starting to cut prices (more)

FEAR 3 co-op trailer shows a slight imbalance

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2382 days, 11 hours, 46 minutes ago
Saturday, January 15, 2011 9:05:32 AM GMT
We foresee one major problem with the co-op mode for F.E.A.R. 3, previewed in the video below: One of the characters looks way more fun to play than the other. Who would you like to be: the standard, cover-based first-person shooter guy? Or the telekinetic, intangible ghost-killer? (more)

PlayStation Move strategy to focus on 'more core titles,' says Sony's Koller

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2382 days, 11 hours, 46 minutes ago
Saturday, January 15, 2011 9:05:30 AM GMT
John Koller, director of hardware marketing for PlayStation, acknowledged to the Wall Street Journal that Microsoft's 8 million shipped Kinect units amount to a "very impressive" figure, though he assured that his company is still "happy where we are in the market" with Move. As of the end of November, Sony had shipped 4.1 million units of its motion controller and believes it has an edge over Microsoft in the race to earn the hard-won affections of the "hardcore" consumer. That's you, right? (more)

Nvidia May Be Reviving its Old ''Ti'' Marker

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2382 days, 11 hours, 47 minutes ago
Saturday, January 15, 2011 9:04:23 AM GMT
TechPowerUp has spotted the "Ti" marker used in a recently-retained set of leaked 266.44 GeForce drivers. The "Ti" marker is surprising given that Nvidia previously used it nearly a decade ago to differentiate GeForce 3 and GeForce 4 GPUs with programmable shaders (Ti) from the mainstream (MX) GPUs without the shaders. Although TiVo and ReplayTV were the first DVRs on the market, Microsoft's software actually powered the DISHPlayer Satellite DVR in late 1999. So here we are over 10 years later and while TiVo and Microsoft took different approaches to the same space, of the three original DVR software companies, they're the only two left. (more)

Teenage Engineering OP-1 synthesizer now available for pre-order, we tour its shiny new features (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2382 days, 11 hours, 54 minutes ago

In an era of synth-toy overload, the OP-1 is definitely doing its thing to set itself apart from the pack. It wouldn't have surprised us if it never came out, simply vanishing into the ether like most too-good-to-be-true hardware tends to do. But the fine Swedes of Teenage Engineering are in Anaheim for NAMM with a production model on the floor, and now it's really, truly up for pre-order (please allow 8 weeks for manufacturing and processing) for $799 at their site. LG: Windows Phone 7 launch did not meet expectations, still a fine OS for 'a huge segment'

The only hard news we've seen from Microsoft regarding Windows Phone 7 sales was less than revealing, but it seems that LG is stepping out from the behind the curtain a bit to let us in on how things are going -- from its perspective, anyway. In a sit-down with the folks over at Pocket-lint, LG's marketing strategy and planning team director James Choi noted: (more)

Xbox's David Dennis on December NPDs, 'best month ever for Xbox 360 hardware sales'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2383 days, 10 hours, 37 minutes ago

Xbox 360 had a good year. It could've been exclusive hits like Halo Reach, which landed in the No. 3 spot on the top selling games of 2010, according to NPD. Or it could've been the Xbox 360 S console refresh which, since its unveiling at E3 last June, has remained on top of the monthly home console sales numbers for an impressive six months straight. Or maybe it was the Kinect, which shipped a whopping eight million units by the end of the year, and sold well over its five million unit goal. (more)

Monday's episode of Backlog was just pathetic. You see, something is bound to go wrong every night that I do the show. Usually it's a technical issue, like the audio inexplicably dropping or the camera deciding that it wants to manage the focus like a child refusing to follow a simple instruction ("Just hold its head while I get in back of 'er").
