The BBFC has rated Killzone 3 for British gamers, and spilled a few beans for us in the process -- revealing that the PS3 sequel will boast over seventy minutes of cutscenes. Looks like you'll be doing plenty of watching as well as shooting this time around. (more)

'Somebody' acquires domain for Final Fantasy XIII-2

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2356 days, 15 hours, 52 minutes ago
Friday, January 14, 2011 9:56:27 AM GMT
It seems that, more and more, Square Enix is abandoning the idea of standalone Final Fantasy games and looking to make sequels and spin-offs of everything. If the latest domain acquisition yields fruit, then Final Fantasy XIII is the next title to fall prey to Squenix's inability to leave things alone. (more)

Microsoft 'ran out' of Xbox 360s this holiday season

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2356 days, 15 hours, 54 minutes ago
Friday, January 14, 2011 9:54:10 AM GMT
Microsoft is pretty good at the ol' spin game. America's NPD data comes out tomorrow, and Microsoft does not believe that it beat out the competition this Holiday season, even with Kinect backing it up. However, Microsoft has turned this into a positive -- suggesting it will only lose because it sold too many consoles! (more)

Crytek: Crysis 2's 3D is on the same level as Avatar

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2356 days, 16 hours ago
Friday, January 14, 2011 9:48:37 AM GMT
"There was one project we developed exclusively in stereoscopic 3D -- and we started that two-and-a-half years ago," he told the mag. "It was designed to be only possible in 3D, so we asked what it'd take to make that," says CEO Cevat Yerli in Edge magazine. "So we've done a lot of research into 3D experiences, the UI and whatnot. And a lot of this knowledge is now in the Crysis 2 3D experience. That's why we have, in my opinion, a benchmark 3D implementation. (more)

CES is normally a place where companies show off their latest products on the show floor for people to just look at. Storage company ioSafe wanted us to see just how tough its "disaster proof hardware" really is and invited us off to American Shooters in Las Vegas to take a shotgun and an automatic rifle to one of its Rugged Portable SSDs. (Check out Jane's picture post on our experience at the range.) (more)

Study: Verizon Wireless and HTC most eager to provide Android 2.2 updates

Look, if you buy a carrier-branded Android handset, you should know good and well that you may never see the first Android update. It ain't easy to hear, but as mama always said, the truth ain't always painless. That said, there's still some research you should do before picking a phone and carrier, and ComputerWorld has seemingly done just that for you. (more)

Dead or Alive Dimensions lets players double framerate by turning 3D effect off

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2358 days, 17 hours, 46 minutes ago
Wednesday, January 12, 2011 8:01:57 AM GMT
Team Ninja boss Yosuke Hayashi has revealed in a chat with Famitsu (translated by the folks at Siliconera) that his crew's upcoming 3DS fighter, Dead or Alive Dimensions, will switch between 30 and 60 frames-per-second rendering based on whether players are using the handheld's 3D mode or not. It's a nice, if not entirely unexpected option, considering the 3DS hardware is always rendering the game at 60fps -- it's just 30fps per eye when in "3D mode." (more)

Why the iPhone is Crippled on Verizon's Network

The problem stems from the fact that Verizon's widespread CDMA network only supports a single session of either voice or data, but not both. This is an issue with any CDMA smartphone, not just the new iPhone. (more)

Review: CSI: Fatal Conspiracy

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2359 days, 17 hours, 52 minutes ago
Tuesday, January 11, 2011 7:56:00 AM GMT
Last year’s CSI: Deadly Intent was a bit of an ugly duckling, and something many of us would easily scoff at if we saw it in a store. Yet even though it was just a CSI version of Ace Attorney with a crime lab -- without a courtroom or anything in-game to object to -- there was something special about finding the killer’s DNA on a pair of undies. Not to mention some of the ridiculous cases you had to solve. (more)
