Game SERIES Debate to the Death! Mass Effect series

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2611 days, 16 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 6:54:11 PM GMT
Just like the previous debate, calling Mass Effect a series after two games feels a little strange, but just like Golden Sun, Mass Effect is a series where fans loved the sequel as much -- or even more -- than the original game. That ended up being the case in the last debate, so this week should be interesting to watch. The original game took an early lead, but the sequel slowly built momentum and eventually overcame the first game in votes: (more)

Preview: Splatterhouse

Wednesday, June 30, 2010 6:47:04 PM GMT
Most of the games games shown at E3 are not final retail versions; they're preview builds specifically developed to show at the industry's largest expo. Since this is the case, many developers will remind those playing its game or watching demos that what they're seeing is subject to change. "We still have to polish this," or "the animation over here isn't finished" are a few of the things you'll hear. It's expected. (more)

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 DLC is coming back | Joystiq

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2611 days, 40 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 6:29:59 PM GMT
It's been a roller coaster ride this year for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2fans. First, all DLC for the game vanished from PSN -- it was explained that the DLC was merely a "limited time offer." Then, it vanished from Xbox Live, too. Now, gamers are forced to simply play the game itself, deprived of access to all DLC. Can you imagine the horror? But fear not, for the DLC is returning when it's needed most -- just like a good superhero. Word comes via Hero HQ that the DLC is coming back, and we've manage... (more)

You won't need to swallow a little computer to sound robotically awesome in Rock Band 3. Audio signal processing company iZotope, Inc. has announced that it's providing pitch correction technology to the music game, as initially revealed to Joystiq in an interview with Harmonix. The game will use iZotope's real-time pitch detection and correction to make you sound less like yourself and more like someone who can hit a damn note occasionally. And for those of you who are already vocally gifted, the use o... (more)

StarCraft 2 free for WoW players in Korea, loses 18+ rating

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2611 days, 10 hours, 41 minutes ago

Blizzard is tweaking the business model for its upcoming StarCraft 2 release in Korea. IGN reports that the RTS will be free for Korean subscribers to World of Warcraft there, as Blizzard reportedly wants to bolster the MMO's player base overseas. Other players will be able to buy the game outright for the US equivalent of about $54, or pick up $8 monthly or even $1.60 daily passes for the game, so Blizzard will still make a googoojillion dollars on the long-awaited sequel in Korea. In fact, there's a new expansion coming this fall, titled "The Sims 3 Fast Lane Stuff" pack. But with the hype surrounding Sony's launch of the PlayStation Plus subscription service and the added feature in Tuesday's PS3 firmware release, the PSP's update took somewhat of a backseat... that is until reports of an unannounced Easter egg began to appear. Verizon iPhone in January, claims Bloomberg

Wednesday, June 30, 2010 8:14:14 AM GMT
Stop us if you've heard this one before: Bloomberg says Verizon will get the iPhone... sometime in January. Yep, it's another fuzzy rumor sourced from "two people familiar with the plans," and while we really do believe Big Red will eventually get the iPhone in our lifetimes, at this point we're beyond cynical about pieces like this -- chatter about a Verizon iPhone now regularly reaches deafening levels before crashing down in yet another cloud of AT&T-exclusive dust. However, if you must insist on ... (more)

Ever since Apple decided to do little about the iPhone 4's pronounced reception issues except suggest that users hold the thing differently and / or buy a nice case, the voodoo engineering remedies have been flying in full force -- sure, we'll admit we tried sticking some tape over the side of our phone (no dice), but we stopped short when people suggested we try a couple coats of nail polish (insanity). Even we have limits, after all. But the latest snake oil fix is definitely the craziest we've heard s... (more)
