Hulu Plus preview arrives in iTunes App Store, Flash be damned

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2550 days, 2 hours, 5 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 8:09:51 AM GMT
The free Hulu Plus app just hit the iTunes App store, kids, with the promise of 720p streaming over WiFi or 3G to iOS devices including the iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and 3rd generation iPod touch. They're calling it a "limited preview" release that will ultimately require a $10 per month subscription on top of the commercials you're forced to watch. Oh, and it's still restricted to US-only viewership. Well, at least the Flash barrier has been removed. Huzzah? (more)

Inazuma Eleven coming to Wii

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2550 days, 9 hours, 59 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 12:15:51 AM GMT
The longest line I've ever seen to play a specific game (not counting the E3 2006 line to play the Wii) was at Tokyo Game Show a few years back, at Level-5's booth. Everyone wanted to play soccer game Inazuma Eleven for the DS. Since those days the series has been going strong. And soccer is big right now, so why not announce a sequel for the Wii? (more)

Pokemon Black/White trailer: 3 on 3 battles, new Pokemon

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2550 days, 10 hours, 2 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 12:13:19 AM GMT
In it, we're shown three on three battles, a handful of new Pokemon -- the sarcophagus-looking dude is so absurd I can't help but love it -- and some stuff I'm not even going to attempt to understand. As per usual, Serebii.net has screencaps and follow-up info. I don't know how those guys do it. Really, I don't. (more)

New releases: Naughty Bear, Sin and Punishment & more

Wednesday, June 30, 2010 12:07:50 AM GMT
This week's releases sees Naughty Bear coming out for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. I've really been looking forward to this one, especially after our little battle during E3 a couple of weeks ago. I'm also looking really forward to Sin and Punishment: Star Successor. I wasn't paying attention to this game at all until I saw the commercial that's on TV. Now I can't wait to get my hands on it. Lost Planet 2 to get new mode, skin via DLC in July

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2550 days, 10 hours, 13 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 12:02:27 AM GMT
Capcom continues to support Lost Planet 2 in late July, when the publisher says it will release an all new mode, as well as a new skin. "Rush Arena" pits up to four players in a special mode against all of the bosses that appear in the game, all the way up through the final baddie. The mode will sport its own set of leaderboards as well, where players will battle it out off the best completion time. (more)

Steam's Perils of Summer sale: What's the damage so far?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2550 days, 10 hours, 14 minutes ago

I hadn't planned on posting any of the daily deals for Steam's "Perils of Summer" promotion. Not because it isn't terrific, especially compared to the competition's offerings -- it totally is -- but because I figured you all were perfectly capable of typing "store.steampowered.com" into your browser. Milo demo from last year not planned as a game

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2550 days, 10 hours, 17 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 11:58:25 PM GMT
Remember that really creepy demo of Kinect when it was first unveiled as Project Natal last year? I'm talking about the one with the kid who fished and made everyone watching him feel vaguely uncomfortable. At the time, we were under the impression that this was going to someday be a retail product. Not so, according to Aaron Greenberg. Australian TV program Good Game asked the Xbox boss about the Milo demo, where he stated that the demo still existed and had been refined but there were no plans to make... (more)

Watch the Portal 2 E3 demo and smile

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2550 days, 10 hours, 20 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 11:55:06 PM GMT
There are more than a few great things in this video (which covers the first part of our E3 single-player demo; six more parts are expected this week). The first is the introduction of a cheeky, British personality orb. He's cheeky, British, and we already love him. And GLaDOS. Oh, GLaDOS, how we have missed you. Anyway, just try to watch this video without smiling (or outright laughing). We dare you. Go ahead. You monsters. (more)

Preview: John Daly's Prostroke Golf

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2550 days, 10 hours, 21 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 11:53:38 PM GMT
If you read my Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 review, then you know that I'm totally on the bandwagon when it comes to motion-based golfing. Going into my E3 appointment to preview O Games' John Daly's Prostroke Golf, I didn't expect the game's Move functionality to add anything to the experience I couldn't already get with MotionPlus on the Wii. But Prostroke actually impressed me, thanks to some clever design decisions. (more)

Formed in the mid-1980s, Reflections Interactive has been making games for longer than you might remember. While the studio has franchises like Shadow of the Beast and Destruction Derby under its belt, its longest standing franchise is Driver. This fall the wheelman returns in Driver: San Francisco, and Reflections -- now owned and operated by Ubisoft -- is once again steering the ride. (more)

Junction Point taking the (mean) Mickey out of Epic Mickey

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2550 days, 10 hours, 25 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 11:49:37 PM GMT
One of the key features in Disney Epic Mickey is the ability for players to choose either good or evil actions as Mickey Mouse. We originally learned that Mickey's appearance would change based on what sort of actions you take. Take good actions, and he would appear more like the Mickey we all know and love. Take evil actions, on the other hand, and he would transform into something decidedly more sinister. (more)

PAX Prime 2010 performers and exhibitors announced

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2550 days, 10 hours, 26 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 11:48:54 PM GMT
PAX Prime, which is largely considered to be the O.G. of Penny Arcade Expos, doesn't kick off until the weekend of September 3, but that doesn't mean we can't start getting excited right now. A portion of the 70-strong exhibitor list has been released alongside the announcement of this year's musical acts -- a ledger (posted in full after the break) which leads us to the inevitable conclusion that PAX Prime 2010 might be the comic's largest gala to date. Your first five iPad games

You weren't going to be that guy. Your friends could fall in line all they wanted, but you were going to be strong. You didn't need an iPad, after all, you had your iPhone! Besides, the thing can't even make calls, what's the point? But then, your friends started coming around, magically flipping through USA Today with a swipe of their fingers like news genies, and you cracked, guiltily sliding your last $500 bill across the Genius Bar and walking out of the Apple Store defeated, but one iPad richer. VC in Brief: Mario Tennis (N64)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2550 days, 10 hours, 30 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 11:44:55 PM GMT
Mario Tennis is a pretty important game for two reasons: 1.) it's made by Camelot -- you know, the same guys doing Golden Sun: Dark Dawn -- and 2.) it's one of the best semi-modern Tennis games starring Mario and crew. No, we're not counting Mario's Tennis on the Virtual Boy because, man, we still get headaches thanks to that game -- why would you even suggest that one? (more)

After 36 straight hours of tireless porting and liveblogging, Ardiri managed to push the classic puzzler onto the iPhone App Store and Palm App Catalog (where it's currently awaiting approval), as well as Windows and Mac (where it's currently available to download for free). We've talked about the service a bit so far, but to recap, $50 annual nets you a 50 percent discount on PSN titles, early access to betas, and one hour of demo time on select full titles (among other benefits). Samsung's Epic 4G for Sprint seems to live up to its name

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2551 days, 2 hours, 8 minutes ago

That rumored Galaxy S Pro is very real and very official for Sprint this evening, 'cept it's not actually called the Galaxy S Pro -- instead, it'll be known as the Epic 4G when it comes to market "in the coming months." Like the EVO 4G before it, the Epic 4G sort of blows everything out of the water on paper: 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 5 megapixel primary camera with LED flash and 720p video recording paired with a VGA front-facing cam for video calls, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, six-axis accelerometer, and a 1... iWork for iPhone revealed by AppleCare product description?

AppleCare Protection Plan may cover certain types of damage, but it sure didn't stop up today's alleged leak -- if you pick an unlocked iPhone at the online Apple Store for Canada, Australia or the UK today and click the "Learn more" button on the AppleCare option, you'll be treated to this "iWork for iPhone" containing screen. Coupled with the "Open in Keynote" prompt we saw a few weeks back, we may picking up the crumbs of a real app here, even if productivity isn't the first thing that comes to mind ... (more)
