Is there a 'Classics HD' line coming from Sony?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2728 days, 12 hours, 40 minutes ago
Monday, June 28, 2010 8:08:22 AM GMT
Eagle eyed Europeans have been scoping out the box art for the upcoming The Sly Collection. a compilation of the three Sly Cooper games with HD and Move controls added, and they've spotted something rather interesting. The box art definitely labels the game as part of a "Classics HD" series. OK, so you didn't have to be that eagle eyed to notice that, but it does raise the question of what the hell "Classic HD" is since Sony has never mentioned it. (more)

Halo 4 could have been another sequel starring the Chief

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2728 days, 12 hours, 41 minutes ago
Monday, June 28, 2010 8:07:30 AM GMT
If you've played to the end of Halo 3 on Legendary then you know that they left it a bit open as to whether or not we'd be seeing Master Chief again. OK, the blatantly left it open so that even if Bungie left Microsoft could still make money of one of their only iconic characters. Little did we know that Bungie themselves were seriously considering making the next Halo game a direct sequel. (more)

Dtoid HQ receives a Mafia II branded briefcase

Destructoid HQ gets plenty of weird, cool and sometimes stupid pieces of swag to promote whatever game that needs promoting. The latest package to be thrown at our door (Goddamn FedEx guy ... ) came from 2K Games and this is certainly one of the cooler pieces of promo items we've received since opening up shop in San Francisco. Epic Mickey team rivals that of Call of Duty

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2728 days, 12 hours, 51 minutes ago
Monday, June 28, 2010 7:57:26 AM GMT
These days it takes a massive team of people to make a AAA game. Games like Call of Duty: Black Ops (300 people) or Assassin's Creed (450 people) have huge teams that work on every detail and cost a lot of money. Most Wii games on the other hand, not so much. Epic Mickey, though, is a mouse of a different color. (more)

MDK2 coming to Wii and PC

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2728 days, 12 hours, 52 minutes ago
Monday, June 28, 2010 7:56:31 AM GMT
MDK2 is quite the game. It's a little weird, but a total blast to play with some really creative level design for its three playable characters. Or so I'm told. I've never actually dug into it because I have a fear of characters with large pointy heads (damn you, Silent Hill!). However, if I can overcome my largiapointyheadphobia by later this year I will have another chance to play the game as Interplay and Beamdog have announced that the BioWare-developed game will be getting a Wii and PC release. Purchase intent for Move and Kinect not so high

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2728 days, 12 hours, 53 minutes ago
Monday, June 28, 2010 7:55:23 AM GMT
I think it is safe to say that we are all aware of this Kinect thing and that PlayStation Move stuff, but who is actually going to buy this stuff? According to the EEDAR not many people. According to their numbers the purchase intent for Move and Kinect "ranked relatively low" on its charts. The two motion control gaming peripherals failed to break the firm's top 20 despite their "awareness among the core gaming community." (more)

Twisted Pixel helping with Turbine-developed console MMO

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2728 days, 12 hours, 59 minutes ago

More from Twisted Pixel already? The digitally prolific studio that brought us The Maw and 'Splosion Man (in the same year, no less) -- not to mention the still-in-development Comic Jumper -- has quietly announced "a contract with Turbine to help them build an awesome new MMO intended for consoles." Yep, for consoles. Unfortunately, the developer seems to be keeping mum on more details, saying, "If you want more than that, you'll have to take it up with Turbine, because we can't spill the beans on their... (more)

Preview: The Agency's Player vs Player mode

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2728 days, 13 hours, 7 minutes ago
Monday, June 28, 2010 7:41:25 AM GMT
For me, the selling point of MMOs is the huge, open world; a world full of other actual human beings who I can interact with and who can interact with me (almost like real life!). So when I snuck in some time with The Agency at Sony Online Entertainment's E3 booth this year, it was hard for me to shake the feeling that I was playing an Unreal Tournament-style, Ijji.com shooter (one powered by a modified Unreal Engine 3, no less) rather than an MMO. Sure, the Deathmatch trappings of my demo didn't help, ... (more)

Japanese hardware sales, June 14 - June 20: Rise of the Touchables edition

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2728 days, 13 hours, 10 minutes ago

As you text-skippers have already noticed, there's been a pretty significant shake-up in this week's Japanese hardware sales chart, with all three incarnations of the Nintendo DS getting substantial sales boosts. There's been a lot of speculation as to how these increases came about -- most seem to think it has something to do with Japan's recent discounting of all three handhelds, as well as the introduction of new colors for the current king supreme, the DSi LL. Activision Defends GoldenEye Wii Exclusivity

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2728 days, 13 hours, 17 minutes ago
Monday, June 28, 2010 7:32:00 AM GMT
Gaming industry analyst Michael Pachter said during E3 2010 that Activision's remake of GoldenEye: 007 would do better on the Xbox 360 than the Nintendo Wii. To be more specific, he said that the game would have a "better chance" if developed by Rare--the team behind the original Nintendo 64 classic--for the Microsoft console than the Eurocom rehash slated for the less-endowed Wii. Sorry, we couldn't wait -- having spent 11 hours on the streets waiting for the iPhone 4, it's only natural to give our precious new toy some extra special care. With the help of iFixit's teardown guide, we decided to take the plunge with our steaming hot Chinese delivery -- a white front cover (with a shiny proximity sensor area above the earpiece), a white back cover (with "XXXXX" marked as the model number, ergo a prototype), and a Retina Display unit. Alas, there weren't any white buttons in stock a... (more)

Entelligence: App stores are not enough

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2728 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes ago
Monday, June 28, 2010 7:24:49 AM GMT
A little over two years ago, Apple changed the face of mobile computing when it launched the App Store and broke down the barriers between app developers and end users. There was no longer a need for users to go to a third-party web site, hand over a credit card, download an app to their computer, and sync it to their device. The App Store's integration with iTunes made it easy for the consumer to purchase apps, and purchase apps they did. But while Apple now commands a major lead in the sheer number of ... (more)
