Amazon Kindle Editions with video and audio added to iPhone / iPad app

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2520 days, 12 hours, 8 minutes ago

No, Amazon didn't just release a new Kindle capable of doing full motion video with embedded audio. Instead, Amazon just updated the content for the Kindle app running on Apple gear that gives a few books an inject of multimedia. For example, Rich Steves' London Kindle Edition with audio/video features walking tours with Rich doing the narration while Rose's Heavenly Cakes features video tips for... you guessed it, making delicious cake. Unfortunately, we're only seeing about a dozen titles classified ... (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2523 days, 11 hours, 8 minutes ago
Friday, June 25, 2010 8:17:02 AM GMT
It is a cliché to say it is a cliché that a celebrity seemed like a normal person. So let's just say that, in his office today, Jimmy Fallon seemed just as concerned about the next GoldenEye as you, though maybe more excited about the next Star Fox. (more)

Don't Use The Word 'Shmup' Around The Creators Of Ikaruga And Sin & Punishment

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2523 days, 11 hours, 8 minutes ago
Friday, June 25, 2010 8:16:11 AM GMT
Because, believe it or not, the people who designed some of the world's best scrolling shoot 'em ups, including Ikaruga, Gradius V and Radiant Silvergun, claim to have never seen the abbreviated term "shmup" used to describe their games before. So says Masato Maegawa, president of Treasure and producer on the company's latest bullet-filled video game, SIn & Punishment: Star Successor for Wii. We were curious if they use the shortened description internally and this was their response. (more)

Rumor: Big Publisher In National Government "Scandal" [Update]

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2523 days, 11 hours, 12 minutes ago
Friday, June 25, 2010 8:12:44 AM GMT
According to trade site Develop, "one of the biggest game companies in the world" has "sabotaged" plans to provide tax breaks for UK developers. That's one juicy scandal. The British government had pledged to provide the breaks, aimed at propping up a decline in the number of UK developers. That was until, Develop says, a "global publisher...counterbalanced the bid with a scandalous assertion of its own international influence and power". Earlier this week, plans for the tax cuts were scrapped. (more)

Look, as a hippie-dippy hipster from the the hippiest part of the world (read: Sebastopol, CA), I know the power of patcholi oil, why ladies protesting topless down the main street is going to stop the war in Iraq, and where the nearest place I can buy cruelty-free moccasins is. Janis Joplin ain't got s**t on my shirtless bead-wearing and Jerry Garcia, while going to my high school, only stayed for one year before transfering and I was there all four. Devil's Third could possibly get 3D support on PS3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2523 days, 11 hours, 22 minutes ago

Tomonobu Itagaki likes 3D enough to have a 3D television set in his living room, so I'm sure he's thought about making his latest game 3D compatible. Valhalla's Devil's Third, revealed last week at E3, is a contender for 3D support, says Itagaki. It'll boil down to whether the PS3 has the processing power, though. (more)

Even though EA Bright Light's Spare Parts plays nothing like Metal Arms: Glitch in the System and only really resembles it on a basic "they both have yellow robots" level, I love how the comparison is being drawn by some of you guys. Any excuse to think about Metal Arms is fine by me. (more)

Destructoid Discusses: 3D at E3 2010

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2523 days, 11 hours, 27 minutes ago

Maybe two-thirds of what we saw at E3 involved 3D technology. Hell, Sony even had us wearing 3D glasses at their press conference! There was 3D racing, 3D platforming, 3D shooting and even 3D portables with "3D" in the name. Following this year's also 3D-heavy Consumer Electronics Show, it seems that the gaming world is getting the goofy glasses, like it or not. (more)

Jaffe's got a filmmaking Sweet Tooth for PSN

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2523 days, 11 hours, 39 minutes ago
Friday, June 25, 2010 7:45:47 AM GMT
We've been fooled before by Twisted Metal creator David Jaffe and his Twitter account, so we'll treat his recent statements expressing interest in making a Sweet Tooth-based, "low-budget slasher movie," with with the same trepidation we reserve for buying ice cream from an evil clown. That said, his phrasing is pretty straightforward: "I want us to make an honest to goodness, low-budget slasher movie and sell it on PSN exclusive. Peeps saying we are making a PSN Sweet Tooth GAME got it wrong." (more)
