Dance Central could bust a move on PS3, but Wii put in a corner

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 22 hours, 18 minutes ago

Nobody puts the Wii in a corner, except Harmonix that is! Speaking to Kotaku, Harmonix's Alex Rigopulos intimated that the company's upcoming Kinect title, Dance Central, might raise the roof on PS3. Should the game shake its groove thing on PS3, it will be doing so with the help of PlayStation Move. The Wii, unfortunately, will have to sit this dance out, as Rigopulos noted that its motion tracking capabilities aren't up to snuff. (more)

Our preview of Hydrophobia from E3 2010 covered what we saw in the first installment of the planned trilogy; however, if you want an idea of what to expect in the next installment, we got a better idea by checking out the game's "Challenge Rooms," which unlock only after the player finishes the main campaign. What's tucked after the break may be considered spoiler-ish, so click on through if you're willing to take the plunge. (more)

Halo: The Fall of Reach comic adaptation coming from Marvel

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 22 hours, 26 minutes ago
Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:39:03 AM GMT
Marvel and 343 Industries have announced a new comic adaptation of the novel Halo: The Fall of Reach (not to be confused with the upcoming re-issue of the novel itself). The comic will be written by Brian Reed, who's work has worked in both comics and games. The art will be drawn by Felix Ruiz. For those unfamiliar with The Fall of Reach, the book covers events that took place before the original Halo game, including the creation of the Spartan II project and its indoctrination of John 117, better known ... Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions coming to iPhone

Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:35:45 AM GMT
In a continued push to bring awesome games we've loved forever onto the thing we use to make phone calls, Square Enix revealed during E3 that Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions would soon make its way to the iPhone. The teaser trailer posted after the jump features the opening cinematic from the PSP port of the game, meaning we won't have to suffer the occasionally spotty translations featured in the original PS1 version. China adding new restrictions on online games August 1

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 22 hours, 39 minutes ago
Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:26:02 AM GMT
Though China's online game market continues to exponentially increase in value, the nation's Ministry of Culture plans on slapping another round of restrictive regulations on MMOs and other online titles on August 1. The new regulations are designed to protect minors from "unwholesome" content while playing online, while also introducing measures which will prevent them from succumbing to the sweet, sweet siren song of online gaming addiction. Zynga's Frontierville already has 5 million daily active users

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 22 hours, 40 minutes ago
Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:25:05 AM GMT
Zynga recently learned a very profitable lesson from the launch of its newest casual networking game -- people aren't obsessed with Farms, as it turns out. What they can't get enough of are Villes. The player base for Frontierville, a browser-based family-raising (and, yes, farming) sim set in the Wild West, is evidence of this assertion -- Zynga emailed us earlier today, announcing the game has racked up over 5 million "daily active users" since going live June 9. Windows 7 hits 150 million licenses: that's seven copies a second

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 22 hours, 51 minutes ago
Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:13:21 AM GMT
If Steve Ballmer's still pumped eight months later, there's a good reason -- Windows 7 has reportedly sold its 150 millionth copy, just two months after crossing the 100 million mark. If you run the numbers -- and we have -- that translates to roughly seven licenses sold per second since launch, a very convenient number for Microsoft to tout in their marketing communications from here on out. Perhaps execs can celebrate with a nice Windows 7 Whopper, topped with a fresh .dll pickle. (more)

Poll: is your iPhone 4 retina display seeing yellow spots? (update: losing bars in the hand?)

Reports are coming in from some of those lucky early iPhone 4 users that there may exist a not-so-lucky yellow coloration in the bottom right corner of the IPS LCD. We haven't seen this ourselves on any new iPhones, but maybe you've had different experiences. Tell us, is your iPhone 4 seeing yellow? (more)

iPhone 4 and iPhone 3G screens go head-to-head under the microscope

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 22 hours, 56 minutes ago
Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:09:06 AM GMT
We got up pretty close to the iPhone 4's retina display in our review, but we can't say we got quite as close as PhD candidates Ryan White and Bryan Gauntt of Penn State University, who have kindly provided us with some images of the screen under a microscope (along with an iPhone 3G for comparison). According to their measurements, the iPhone 3G's pixels measure 13 x 40 microns, while the iPhone 4's measure 6.5 x 20 microns, which adds up to exactly four times as many pixels. As impressive as sounds tha... (more)

Nexus One getting Android 2.2 FRF83 update over the air?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 23 hours, 1 minute ago
Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:04:04 AM GMT
The Android 2.2 source code just went public this morning, but we're hearing a fully-compiled, legitimate OTA version of Froyo may be hitting small batches of Nexus One handsets as well. Though a 1.78MB ZIP file floating around XDA-developers this afternoon was originally thought to be the droid we've all been looking for, Android and Me reports that they received an honest-to-goodness OTA version of FRF83 after trying (and failing) to get that ZIP to work, and we're getting several similar reports. Let ... (more)

iMovie hits iTunes App Store, only for iPhone 4 (update)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 23 hours, 3 minutes ago
Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:01:28 AM GMT
You may not have an iPhone 4 yet -- unless you lucked out on delivery, you're probably still waiting in line -- but if you did receive Cupertino's latest opinion polarizing handset, you might have noticed it doesn't come with a tool to edit all the 720p footage of jealous friends that you just shot. Thankfully that can be remedied with a portrait of President Lincoln, as iMovie for iPhone just went live -- head on over to the App Store and drop your $4.99. (more)

iPhone 4 drop test yields results (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 23 hours, 4 minutes ago
Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:00:33 AM GMT
There's been a lot of fuss about the iPhone 4's Gorilla Glass "custom glass" comparable in strength to sapphire crystal but 30 times harder than plastic. Sounds incredible, right? But make no mistake, that front glass panel will still break if dropped. Ok, it took four deliberate attempts to accomplish what you see above but it still happened. Bottom line: like any cellphone, you'll have to worry about more than just scratches. See the destruction after the break. (more)

E3 10: The Deadliest Warrior is a pleasant surprise

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2466 days, 21 hours, 14 minutes ago

Spike TV has had considerable success with their television show, Deadliest Warrior. So, it's easy to make the assumption that the upcoming videogame based on the program might be little more than a crass cash-in. That's why I'm really glad that I had the opportunity to check the game out at E3 this week. The means of taking the show's premise of pitting two disparate, historical warriors against one another and putting into the medium of games is about as simple as it gets. Deadliest Warrior is a one... (more)

Man vs. Wild, the television show which features survival expert Bear Grylls demonstrating survival tactics in extreme situation is a pretty entertaining watch. I took some time to check out the upcoming game based on the show while at E3. In the game, you control Bear Grylls in a 3D environment. In the demo I played, I was in a forest but other locations in the finished game will include the Sahara and the Everglades. The core objective in each area is to survive, traveling from your starting location ... (more)

The evil genius of Portal 2

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2466 days, 21 hours, 18 minutes ago

Portal 2 is going to be amazing. Do you know how I know this? Because a mere fifteen minute presentation of the game had a room full of cynical, jaded, miserable game "journalists" laughing out loud. That's what Portal is all about as far as I'm concerned. Yes, the puzzles are fantastic, the central gimmick is unique, but it's the comedy that really sets Portal apart. (more)
