E3 10: Halo: Reach introduces space combat

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2625 days, 18 hours, 5 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 7:29:16 PM GMT
Seriously, watch this. Look how good it looks. Look at how much is going on. So help me Bungie, don't disappoint me again like you did with Halo 3. This video also confirms that space fighting is indeed a thing. You'll be able to control a space ship and pew pew pew at things in space for the first time ever in a Halo game. That's pretty exciting. (more)

E3 10: Have some dusty Ghost Recon Future Soldier shots

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2625 days, 18 hours, 6 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 7:28:25 PM GMT
I'm not entirely sure if my interest was based on the assortment of weird, nontraditional videogames that came prior to Ghost Recon Future Soldier's showing at the Ubisoft press conference, or if the game was impressive on its own; probably a little of both. (more)

E3 10: Have some new H.A.W.X. 2 screens and details

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2625 days, 18 hours, 18 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 7:16:53 PM GMT
Ubisoft may not have shown off Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 during their press conference, but they were kind enough to give us some new screenshots and a little bit of information on the game. Like the last screens we got, most of these are just of various planes. There are few shots, however, of what appear to be tactical airstrikes, both at night and during the day. If the terrain looks surprisingly realistic, it's because Ubisoft says they're using actual high-resolution data from GeoEye, a satellite ima... (more)

E3 10: Driver: San Francisco trailer doesn't end happily

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2625 days, 18 hours, 21 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 7:14:06 PM GMT
During Ubisoft's E3 press conference yesterday, Martin Edmondson -- the lead designer on the PS1 classic Driver -- premiered the newest entry in the series, Driver: San Francisco. This game is set to take the series back to its roots: Tanner, the detective from the original Driver, is back. In the trailer above, you can see that he's still got his thrill-seeking, living-life-on-the-edge attitude -- and this time around, that might have some serious consequences. (more)

Restaurant Replaces Paper-Based Menus with iPads

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2626 days, 5 hours, 26 minutes ago

Will electronic media eventually eradicate paper products? The transition is eventual, however one restaurant in Australia is taking the digital step early by ditching its paper-based menus and wine lists. Instead, it will offer customers an iPad running a special application designed to not only list the establishment's menu, but apparently their ingredients. and other useful information (more)

What the PS3 Needs to Compete with Kinect

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2626 days, 5 hours, 27 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 8:07:50 AM GMT
Project Natal is officially called Kinect, but we don’t really know more than we did before, with the exception of the launch title lineup. What we do know, however, that Microsoft is serious about Kinect (as strange as this thing sounds) and the Xbox 360 is moving closer to general entertainment than ever before. Sony should take the challenge seriously. The PS3 platform needs some adjustment and upgrades. (more)

Netflix for Xbox 360 adds search in November

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2626 days, 5 hours, 36 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 7:58:27 AM GMT
It didn't get a slot during Microsoft's just-concluded Xbox 360 press conference, but the Netflix streaming app will finally add one of the most often requested (and denied) features: the ability to search through the entire Watch Instantly library and add movies to your queue, right from the console. Proudly stating it's the first gaming console to let you update your queue without a computer (Roku does it too, but try playing Gears of War on that) there's no word on any Kinect tie-ins, probably the rea... Kinect, the new Xbox 360, and ESPN: highlights from Microsoft at E3 2010

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2626 days, 5 hours, 40 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 7:54:31 AM GMT
My, what big showing you have there, Microsoft. We're still recovering from today and yesterday's big Xbox 360 Kinect unveiling party, but let's take a brief trip down short-term memory lane. First, Project Natal became Kinect, unveiled a handful of interesting / guaranteed-to-embarrass uses, and solidified its November release date. Then ESPN3 made an impressive debut on Xbox Live. Finally, the piece de resistance, a slimmed down Xbox 360 250GB that came (almost) out of nowhere and hits retail as soon a... (more)

Xbox 360 Arcade to eventually be replaced by $199 new Xbox 360; data transfer cable will be $20

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2626 days, 5 hours, 43 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 7:51:09 AM GMT
Liking the form factor, but not the price? You could settle for an existing Xbox 360 Elite, Pro or Arcade, as we hear the introduction of the new Xbox 360 is being accompanied by a $50 price cut on existing units, but if your heart's set on that glossy black, there's a cheaper Stealthbox coming down the pike eventually. GameSpot reports a slim Xbox 360 Arcade successor will appear after the now-discontinued SKUs sell out for the same $200 as before. Not exactly surprising, but it's always nice to know. (more)

Kinect Dance Central preview, or how we learned to stop caring and love the groove (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2626 days, 5 hours, 50 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 7:44:36 AM GMT
We're gonna level with you, internet at large, we jumped at the chance to be on camera for our hands-on with Dance Central for Xbox 360's Kinect. It's not because we think we're good dancers -- we don't -- but it was subsequently decided that a lack of shame was more fun. So let's get on with the details. Menu navigation was a little janky at times, but selection was a simple swipe from the extreme right to left of an arm's length. As we saw earlier, the game is a progression of dance riffs you have to e... (more)

Chinese government to make Foxconn suicide findings public

We've been struggling to wrap our heads 'round this whole Foxconn imbroglio since the beginning, and while we're pretty skeptical about any official reports we'd be remiss if we didn't mention that the Human Resources and Social Security Ministry in China was looking into the thing, and that they'll be releasing the findings somewhat soonish. Project Diva's new DLC is better than the upcoming sequel

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes ago
Monday, June 14, 2010 6:52:22 AM GMT
E3 might be on, but here at Destructoid we cover other games, too. Like this one! It's called Hatsune Miku: Project Diva. It's a PSP rhythm game based on the singularly amazing "Vocaloid" line of virtual singing idols. Anyway, the sequel's out coming out on July 24th, for the PSP, six weeks from now. It will feature not just songs by Miku herself, but also tunes from other Vocaloid pals, all of whom will get their own costume sets, animations and duet performances. Wonderful. An improved sequel to a gre... (more)

Neptune, a game about game console girls gets gameplay

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 6 hours, 43 minutes ago
Monday, June 14, 2010 6:51:29 AM GMT
It might be the time of the year that gamers think about the industry's various game consoles as mortal enemies, but it seems that Super Dimension Game Neptune, a JRPG about game consoles who can transform into cute anime girls, does not subscribe to that attitude. Instead, the holy gameworld goddesses Purple Heart, Green Heart, White Heart, and Black Heart cooperate to fight the dastardly Majikon (wordplay on the Japanese slang for flash carts) and save their gameworlds (Planetune, Leanbox, Ruii, and R... Interview: Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello talks E3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 6 hours, 44 minutes ago
Monday, June 14, 2010 6:50:41 AM GMT
John Riccitiello: I think mostly what we're going to try to do is introduce 10 great products. So, but I think the message behind all the products is that -- and we feel very proud that we've got what I think is the best industry lineup. We'll talk about that, I'm sure, on the call. And then, increasingly, what we're doing is driving transformation where there's just a whole lot more to these products than a simple package goods. There's a full series of services and benefits and post release contents. T... (more)

E3 10: Fallout: New Vegas shows off its gameplay

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 6 hours, 47 minutes ago

One of my favorite experiences at E3 was when I got to sit down and play Fallout 3 for about an hour in a press only room. It was a glorious time and they had set it up so you got the full Fallout aesthetic experience, which is one of the things the game truly nails. If the above trailer tells us anything it's that that great aesthetic is returning. (more)

Our First Look At Natal's Star Wars, Sports Games (And Minority Report Menus)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 6 hours, 49 minutes ago
Monday, June 14, 2010 6:45:48 AM GMT
Following tonight's Cirque du Soleil performance in Los Angeles, Microsoft gave us a first look at many of Kinect's first titles, most of which we'd never seen before. Most promising may well be a Star Wars game, developed by Microsoft and Lucasarts, that features controller-free lightsaber duels, complete with force powers like "force push". Kinect Sports, the most obvious clone of a Wii title, includes beach volleyball (which has Xbox Live multiplayer), bowling, hurdles, javelin and soccer. (more)
