Joy Ride MIA, but Microsoft insists 'BigPark's vision' will come to life in 2010

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2726 days, 19 hours, 23 minutes ago
Thursday, June 03, 2010 8:33:56 AM GMT
It appears that Joy Ride has been wiped as cleanly as possible from Xbox.com. Its game page is missing, and even the link to it from MS's E3 page has been removed. Joystiq contacted Microsoft for clarification and a spokesperson responded, "We're excited to bring BigPark's vision to life in 2010. However, we have nothing further to announce at this time." We followed up, specifically asking if "BigPark's vision" was still Joy Ride, if the game was currently in development and if it'd be shown at E3. Th... (more)

So much for secrecy -- the cat is out of the bag early, as Sega has revealed that, yes, Shogun 2: Total War is the next game in the historical war simulation series from The Creative Assembly. The game is a direct sequel to the first game in the Total War series (released 10 years ago, if you can believe that) and will have players fighting as competing warlords in 16th century Japan, working to reunite the country under one unified ruler. The game promises the "ultimate refinement of the original formu... (more)

Think the peripheral-equipped EA Sports Active provides nothing more than a wussy, girly-man workout? You might be right, but at least it's a wussy, girly-man doctor-approved workout. So says a new study conducted by a researcher from the University of Wisconsin, who found that EA's exer-game meets the requirements set up by the American College of Sports Medicine for "a healthy, active lifestyle." Microsoft Korea has submitted Sega's Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure to the Korean ratings board, leading to speculation that the Dreamcast titles are racing to XBLA. Sega was unable to officially comment on the ratings. Sonic Adventure popped up like a blue blur on radar back in January, while Siliconera points out that Crazy Taxi has been banging around as a rumored XBLA release for a little while. With E3 only a couple weeks away, it wouldn't be surprising to hear more about the titles then -- you kno... (more)

Ubisoft's Dance on Broadway hitting the Great White Wii

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2727 days, 19 hours, 38 minutes ago

Given the crazy sales and, no doubt, small budget of Ubisoft's Just Dance, it seems obvious that the company would follow up with another Wii dancing game. However, the next game in Ubisoft's dance series isn't a simple Just Dance sequel (though we're sure that'll happen too) -- rather than licensing a few pop hits and a few really embarrassing dance songs from the early '90s, the next game is about ... showtunes. Omni Systems' beautiful indie game Eufloria, once known as Dyson, will be released on the PlayStation Network (presumably for PS3) sometime in 2011. Eufloria is a strategy game of sorts, in which players grow "semi-organic" trees on asteroids, and then set those trees against AI opponents, all presented in a minimal visual style that the game's website calls "reminiscent of children's books like The Little Prince." Everything about it screams "you will play this with a smile on your face, and you will like it, damn it." From the bright, Pixar-like design of its thrill-seeking protagonist to the loop-de-loops and fake shark tanks, it's hard hard not to love what Hello Games is selling.
