posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1776 days, 16 hours, 20 minutes ago
Friday, August 17, 2012 6:27:02 AM GMT
It's a strange day for Stardock when we say this is the second-weirdest lawsuit involving the company that we've seen today, but it's true. The court documents say that Rebellion (the studio) has a trademark on that word, and accuse Rebellion (the game), of causing customers "to mis... (more)

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault brings us back to a simpler time where we could giggle at the subtitles used for Insomniac's platformer franchise. Okay, well, Quest for Booty was pretty good too ... but none of the trailers for that game were as dramatic as the one above! (more)

On tonight's episode of GTTV, Valve's Gabe Newell revealed that a beta for Big Picture mode would launch "soon." Big Picture mode, first announced in early 2011, will allow gamers to hook up their PC or Mac to their living room television – well, okay, it doesn't have to be in your living room, just wherever you've got a TV. The issue of downloadable content being sold on the same day as the videogame it's attached to has been a thorny and contentious one for quite some time. Mass Effect 3 may be where the controversy came to a head, with many customers raging at EA's DLC practices. However, developer BioWare thinks the anger is overblown -- claiming many fans want the content. (more)

The contemporary online first-person shooter has a well-established formula at this stage in the genre's history. Start a match, shoot stuff, gain XP, unlock stuff, rinse, and repeat. It is a formula that has worked well for the titans of the FPS scene, but made it hard for a new IP to stand out when their multilayer offerings look too familiar. (more)

Review: Unchained Blades

I'm not the biggest RPG nut, but over my last decade of gaming, I have appreciated most of the RPGs I've played. After starting on Pokemon, I've played a Final Fantasy or two, and even delved into Persona. But until recently, I'd never even bothered trying the dungeon-crawler subset, specifically the type inspired by Wizardry. (more)

It's a story driven, rhythm-action RPG set in Paris. The main character is a skinny teenage burglar who doesn't care about money. He's a lot more interested in foiling the plans of the reincarnation of Napoleon Bonaparte and putting down his Putty-like foot soldiers with one-hit knockout punches. (more)

Speaking with Eurogamer, Yoshida explained that there are certain "technical issues" that developer Team Ico has been pushing through since last we've heard of it. "That's the period of time when the game, looking from the outside, doesn't seem to be making much progress." In February, Yoshida made similar promises about The Last Guardian but admitted progress on the title was "slow." (more)

Five RPG extras that would probably be DLC in 2012

When the enhanced edition of Final Fantasy VII for the PC was announced, I spent some time imagining achievements. In the comments, a lot of people pointed out that Yuffie's sidequest (and indeed, Yuffie herself) would probably be downloadable content in the modern era of video games. This, I thought to myself, is probably true. (more)
