Metareview: Blur

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 20 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:42:42 AM GMT
Reviews have begun to inch out for Bizarre's new arcadey racer Blur and, at the risk of spoiling the metareview in the first sentence, they're pretty darn good! Maybe not "change your life" good, but at least "put this in your game box and fun will come out" good. What? That's not specific enough for you? OK, fine, here: (more)

We've got three 8 gigglebyte iPod Touches with fancy Alpha Protocol branding etched on 'em -- and hey, we'd love to give them to three of you. For your chance to win, just come up with at least one idea for how a spy could use an iPod (other than leave it laying around to distract foolish lackeys, of course). (more)

Report: Rock Band 3 features keytar, 'Pro' mode

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 23 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:39:45 AM GMT
Given that Harmonix already teased the inclusion of a new instrument in Rock Band 3 -- the keyboard -- we almost feel like we've been taken for a ride. That is, if today's report from Ars Technica's mole on the game is correct and the keyboard is actually a keytar. "What?!" you cry. Much like Frankie, we must say, "Relax!" because, well, we're totally on board with the concept. Just think about the possibilities! (more)

Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project confirmed for XBLA

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 25 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:38:00 AM GMT
After being outed by a handful of ratings organizations, Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project has finally been confirmed for release on Xbox Live Arcade. A listing for the game recently appeared on the official Xbox website, bringing with it no pricing or release date details -- though it does confirm that it falls under the "Action" genre. Oh, thank goodness. We were afraid it might have become a casual puzzler during its transition to consoles. (more)

The worlds of Crackdown and Crackdown 2 compared

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 26 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:37:24 AM GMT
If the recent animated prequel didn't convince you that Pacific City, the setting for the Crackdown series, has gone to hell in a handbasket since the franchise's first installment, then perhaps this will do the trick. BitMob recently posted a panoramic comparison of the city as it looked in Crackdown to how it looks in Crackdown 2. In short, it looks like a really, really terrible place to live now. (more)

Even though Sony officially "won't comment on rumors or speculation" regarding a paid PSN offering in the near future, Sony Europe president Andrew House gave a bit more substantial answer in a recent Q&A on the UK PlayStation site. When asked outright, "Will PlayStation Network become a paying service?", House responded, "Kaz Hirai stated a few months ago that we were looking at a premium service to sit alongside the current free service and that objective has not changed. Media Vision, best known for the Wild Arms RPG series, is working on a new project for PlayStation 3 and PSP. New job listings suggest that the project is quite early in production, and is expected to be "a massive project that will span a long term." While the listing describes the Wild Arms series as being "representative of Japan," this new title for Sony platforms will be one that "appeals to users not just in Japan, but around the world as well." Guerilla demos Killzone 3; promises a more epic, varied experience

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 30 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:32:32 AM GMT
Guerilla Games showed Killzone 3 in action for the first time tonight at an event in San Francisco, and Joystiq was there. Managing director Hermen Hulst was on hand to lay out some key details about the sequel -- unfortunately, any sort of release date wasn't among them. Saying that the team was inspired by the ambition exhibited by other Sony Worldwide Studios releases, specifically Uncharted 2 and God of War 3, Hulst detailed planned improvements across the board for Killzone 3. Chief among them is m... (more)

Tokyo Game Show 2010's visual is an ugly idol

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 34 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:29:29 AM GMT
Last year we loved and laughed at Tokyo Game Show's slogan: "Game, it's so energetic!" But this year? This year beats them all. Rather than a silly slogan, they've gone with an even more bold visual concept that features an ugly idol with too many mechanical limbs (one seemingly coming from the crotch area!) holding various controllers, one of which has sprouted from her right leg. The slogan is something like "Game is going into a new chapter." (more)

Gears of War 2 wants you back, baby

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 35 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:28:19 AM GMT
Gears of War 2 is still very much alive and kicking as far as online multiplayer communities go. I know this because I've totally been playing the game lately, not because some nicely formatted email worked its way into my inbox. Not a chance! The sixth title update, which is making the rounds today, does a few interesting things -- like add Social matches (aka player matches) into the mix. Some general tweaking of the other match types has been included to differentiate this new one from the classics. (more)

Arkham Asylum 2 will be Hamill's last as The Joker

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 36 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:27:09 AM GMT
If there's one game to be nervously excited about, it's Batman: Arkham Asylum 2. For every negative from the original game Rocksteady can potentially address in the sequel, there's the lingering fear that what made the first so special won't necessarily work a second time. It's been awfully quiet on this front for a while now, so to make up for the silence, Mark Hamill has got your back with some thought-provoking statements. Talking with IGN at the Cannes Film Festival, he spoke of his hesitance to voi... (more)

Game SERIES Debate to the Death! Golden Sun series

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 37 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:25:59 AM GMT
Yes, I know. Calling Golden Sun a series is a little laughable, but this RPG tournament qualification process is all about including every game the Dtoid Army demands, and the Golden Sun games were high on that list. In last week's debate we opened the flood gates to what will surely be one of the fiercest competitors in the tournament that lies ahead. I basically asked everyone what "generation" of Pokémon games was their overall favorite, and "it was super effective." With almost 200 votes cast, I'd c... (more)

Red Dead Redemption getting its own short film soon

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 38 minutes ago

Rockstar Games is going all out with its promotion of Red Dead Redemption, even though the game seems to be selling perfectly fine through word of mouth. As a matter of fact, it's getting a 30-minute short film that's poised to premiere on FOX this Saturday. They really want all eyes on their newborn child, huh? Since these are videogames we're talking about here, you'll need to stay up until midnight to watch. Alternatively, you can wait it out for someone to upload it moments after the original airing. NBA Live is Now NBA Elite [Update]

Earlier today, the NBA Live page on Facebook put up that image, and the answer seems to be "What is the new name of EA Sports' NBA franchise?" Correct! I'll take "Potpourri" for a thousand, Alex ... That's according to Official Xbox Magazine, whose latest issue reveals the name change in an exclusive from EA Sports. NBA Elite 11 will deepen the use of the right analog stick in its control set, extending the work it started in Live 10. (more)

We just got our first look at Killzone 3, Guerrilla Games next dark, bloody and frosty looking first person shooter. For our eyes-off impressions, read on. Many Helghast died to bring you this information. Guerrilla's Herman Hulst showed off video of a section of the fourth level of the game's single player campaign. It was set in a dark, metallic, and visually familiar location, glowing-eyed Helghan soldiers shooting down from platforms at the ISA soldiers below. The environment was windy, thick with s... (more)

Report: Goodbye, "Project Natal"

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 45 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:18:08 AM GMT
Project Natal is, if you hadn't worked it out by the whole "project" bit, simply a working title for Microsoft's upcoming motion sensing peripheral. What's its actual name? We don't know, but we're about to find out. A report on Edge says that Natal's final, actual name will be revealed as part of Microsoft's E3 showcase. Which is a bit of a shame. Like Nintendo's public code names, I'd grown quite attached to the whole "Natal" name, and will - for a while at least - have trouble calling it anything else. (more)

Project Natal to cost $149 by itself, $299 with 360 Arcade, according to latest rumors

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2643 days, 4 hours, 57 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:06:09 AM GMT
Here we go with those trusted sources again. Edge has it on good authority that Microsoft's midlife rejuvenator for the Xbox 360, Project Natal, will cost a cool 149 bucks when purchased as a standalone accessory, or $100 when bundled together with the $199 Xbox 360 Arcade console. That's a mighty steep hill for early adopters to climb, but Microsoft did warn us that Natal will not be an impulse buy. An October 26 date is also proffered for the official launch, but that might shift, leaving us with the s... (more)
