OCZ's Fatal1ty Modular PSU Does 750W

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2682 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes ago
Wednesday, May 19, 2010 5:31:27 AM GMT
PC gamers and enthusiasts looking for a high-performance power supply using low-profile, flat modular cabling may want to check out OCZ's latest Fatal1ty-branded release. Packing a tasty 750 watts, the PSU was obviously co-developed by twelve-time world champion Jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel, and designed to meet the needs of his fellow (n00b) gamers. He also threw glowing red LED lights into the new PSU, possibly so that PC gamers will feel like their twitch-based skills are on fire right before he snipes ... (more)

The Pirate Party Brings the Pirate Bay Back Online

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2682 days, 6 hours, 44 minutes ago
Wednesday, May 19, 2010 5:29:14 AM GMT
Yesterday, the Pirate Bay experienced a day-long blackout after a Motion Picture Association injunction forced the site's German provider to take it offline. The district court in Hamburg ordered for the Pirate Bay to be taken offline because it linked to several torrents for Walt Disney movies. If the bandwidth provider refused to comply, its director could have been fined up to €250,000 per copyright infringement and a maximum of two years behind bars. (more)

Android 2.1 becomes most used version, just in time to be obviated by Froyo

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2682 days, 6 hours, 46 minutes ago

Rejoice, oh Android lovers. Thy OS of choice has finally graduated to the point where its latest variant is also the most used -- a statistic that is likely to last for only a day given Google's intent to reveal Android 2.2, or Froyo, at its I/O conference tomorrow. (more)

MacBook refresh gets official with 10-hour battery

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2682 days, 6 hours, 48 minutes ago
Wednesday, May 19, 2010 5:25:45 AM GMT
Weird, but there it is, the leaked MacBook refresh is now official, on Tuesday, just as we thought. The 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo refresh with NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics and longer 10-hour battery life (up from 7 hours) is sitting up, nice and pretty on Apple's very own store in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Germany, and a few other sites. It's still $999 making it a better deal for the moment than the similarly spec'd 13-inch MacBook Pro listing for $1,199. Expect it to go global shortly. A few more screengrabs after th... (more)

Android 2.2 will invite you to visit 'Flash-enabled' sites, rub Apple's nose in it

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2682 days, 6 hours, 49 minutes ago

The battle for minds is well and truly on now, and if there was any doubt that Google and Adobe are cozying up together to take on Apple, let it now be extinguished. TechCrunch is reporting that the latest version of Android -- you know, the one with the 450 percent performance improvement and buttery smooth Flash playback -- will, upon updating, guide you to visit a selection of Flash-enabled websites. The Reject Pile Of Spring 2010

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2683 days, 15 hours, 53 minutes ago
Monday, May 17, 2010 8:20:22 PM GMT
I try to possess as few video games as possible, because it is my dream to only own masterpieces. I haven't achieved this dream yet — hey, I can't bring myself to get rid of Geist, okay? But I did manage to eliminate about a fifth of my video game collection this weekend. Bear in mind that, as someone who covers games for a living, I get a lot of discs sent to me that I would not choose to buy; among those are some I will mess around with and decide to either keep or get rid of. Last August, I wrote about Gaming and Literature, citing the pervasive influence of JRR Tolkien's Middle Earth on fantasy gaming online and off, just for starters. For those who think Tolkien is just genre trash, I hauled out EA's then-in-development game Dante's Inferno. I could foresee... issues... with the way the game was likely to play out, but said "...should this game inspire just one person to discover the original poem or excite discussion in online forums, over water coolers, and perhaps even a... GameStop pre-orders of AC: Brotherhood include Harlequin bonus character

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2683 days, 16 hours, 4 minutes ago
Monday, May 17, 2010 8:08:58 PM GMT
The description of the "GameStop exclusive" Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood pre-order bonus seems apt for the terrifying Harlequin character: "Behind the gaudy costume and twisted smile lies the soul of a merciless assassin. You call yourself the Harlequin. Your victims will call you a walking nightmare." Presumably the whole "walking nightmare" thing is because you're a "merciless assassin," but for us, the clown makeup is sufficiently horrifying in its own way. (more)

FIFA World Cup leaves Alan in its wake on UK sales chart

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2683 days, 16 hours, 6 minutes ago
Monday, May 17, 2010 8:07:15 PM GMT
2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa fiercely protected its top spot on the UK all-formats weekly sales chart for the third week in a row. Alan Wake saw the light of retail with a second place premiere, and according to Chart-Track, totaled only 1,000 fewer units sold than FIFA. Lost Planet 2, which found itself in third, was 12,000 units behind Wake (an Xbox 360 exclusive), despite being on two platforms and going on sale several days earlier than the typical Friday release in the UK. Mass Effect 2 Xbox 360 patch offers 'optimized' scanning

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2683 days, 16 hours, 12 minutes ago
Monday, May 17, 2010 8:01:51 PM GMT
A BioWare representative announced on the developer's forums (login required) that one of the most ambiguous, open-to-interpretation game updates we've ever encountered launched this morning for the Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect 2. Sure, a few of the changes included in the patch are straightforward, such as a fix for a game-crashing error that would occur due to DLC incompatibility and the removal of another glitch that would allow the game's more sinister players to get infinite skill points using a ... Hands-on: PlayStation Eye's Kung-Fu Live

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2683 days, 16 hours, 15 minutes ago
Monday, May 17, 2010 7:58:41 PM GMT
Kung-Fu Live sounds almost exactly like a Project Natal game. With the aid of a camera, your image is placed directly into the game, and real movements are translated into in-game actions. As the concept trailer above shows, you'll be able to kick and punch wildly into the air to take down virtual baddies. But Kung-Fu Live isn't destined for Project Natal. Instead, it's coming exclusively to the PlayStation Network. You won't need a fancy PlayStation Move controller, either. This is one of the few games ... (more)
