Video: Singularity's age-defying destruction

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2624 days, 23 hours, 46 minutes ago
Sunday, May 16, 2010 6:54:30 AM GMT
We've known about the ability to age and "revert" objects and people in Singularity for a while. It acts as a way to destroy cover, rebuild broken bridges and age enemy soldiers into dust. We wondered before why reverting soldiers didn't turn them into babies, and now we know why: It actually turns them into an exploding pile of goo. Okay, so you can also revert enemies into a raging, feral beast but, come on, exploding pile of goo. (more)

Naughty Bear's cannibalistic, Jaws-inspired trailer

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2624 days, 23 hours, 47 minutes ago
Sunday, May 16, 2010 6:53:14 AM GMT
The parodies keep coming for Naughty Bear, as this latest trailer takes a bite out of Steven Spielberg's horror hit, Jaws. While we definitely enjoy the spirited homage, we do have one issue: it's straight-up cannibalism. We don't care if these bears are full of fluffy cotton -- seeing one bear consume another is terrifying. (more)

Super Mario Galaxy 2 trailer floats in

The latest video excursion into Super Mario Galaxy 2 (after the break) features some very fancy aerial maneuvers by a gas-filled Yoshi. The side-scrolling segment of the game shown here requires Yoshi to float from Blimp Fruit to Blimp Fruit to stay aloft, and even relies on Yoshi's flutter jump to navigate between platforms around the stage. Green Day: Rock Band more familiar to 'core audience' than The Beatles, MTV Games says

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2624 days, 23 hours, 58 minutes ago
Sunday, May 16, 2010 6:43:00 AM GMT
The Beatles are a tough act to follow. And so, several weeks from the release of Green Day: Rock Band, publisher MTV Games has some promoting to do. MTV Games GM Scott Gutherie recently explained the reasoning behind picking the younger, less "classic rock"–oriented band for its next single-act music game following The Beatles: Rock Band. (more)

God Of War Writer Gets Shanked

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 10 hours, 9 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 8:32:01 PM GMT
Marianne Krawczyk, best known for bringing Kratos to life as the writer of God of War, is lending her talents to a different kind of hero in Klei Entertainment's Shank. Shank's story is a gritty, personal tale of revenge, and that's one subject that Marianne Krawczyk is fluent in, thanks to writing credits for all three console God of War titles, as well as the PSP's Chains of Olympus. Krawczyk's writing should be a nice compliment to the game's fast, fluid action and graphic novel style. (more)

It's Like Many Things, But Still Unlike Anything, Say Bulletstorm's Creators

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 10 hours, 15 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 8:25:42 PM GMT
Shooters and summer action movies have plenty in common, not least in how both are commonly pitched: Something and something meet something else. Epic's Bulletstorm, due in 2011, will enter this fraternity with similar references. "It's the Burnout of shooters, with a little bit of Duke Nukem," Epic Games' design director Cliff Bleszinski said, "and a little bit of Firefly and Serenity on top." (more)

Mini projector + Wii Remote = no-glasses virtual reality

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 10 hours, 19 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 8:21:46 PM GMT
I almost vomited from motion sickness while watching this video, but it's worth working through to see this neat concept. Nirav Patel took a ShowWX miniature laser projector, a Wii Remote and a Spacepoint Fusion gyrometer and worked them all onto a Wii Zapper body to make a sort of free moving virtual reality device. The end result is a gun you can aim at the walls in any room and play something like a shooter, pointing up to see up, down to see down, in full 360 degree movement. The laser part of the p... (more)

Alan Wake DLC, 'The Signal,' hits on July 27

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 10 hours, 26 minutes ago

It hasn't even hit shelves yet, but maybe you don't think the six episodes on the Alan Wake disc are enough. No worries, as the first add-on episode has been dated for a late-July release. On the game's official Facebook page it was revealed that the first bit of downloadable content, called "The Signal," will be available for download on July 27. The content will be free to anyone who purchases the game new, with Microsoft and Remedy urging gamers to "hold on to your token card" that's found inside eac... (more)

Mass Effect 2 'Overlord' DLC gets detailed

Coming down the downloadable content pipeline in June is "Overlord," a paid add-on pack for Mass Effect 2. Yet another Cerberus base has gone silent, and yes, some experiment has gone horribly wrong. This time, a human was fused with artificial intelligence to create a "VI overlord," hence the title. (more)

Is this an ad for the Ford Fiesta or for the Wii?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 10 hours, 38 minutes ago

As a general rule, I loathe television commercials. So much so that I don't have cable or even an antenna for my TV because I simply refuse to watch the advertisements. And the worst commercials of all are those for cars. From pretentious Lexus ad down to the testosterone-fueled spots for Dodge trucks, I hate them all. Almost. (more)

Supermarket Mania sweeps PS3/PSP on May 18

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 11 hours, 7 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 7:33:36 PM GMT
G5 Entertainment's Supermarket Mania is leaping from iPhone and PC to the PlayStation Minis program. While it may not be the Supermarket Sweeps game we've always dreamed of, it does offer casual gamers the chance to become a supermarket manager. Players will have to keep the shelves well stocked and serve customers, "including hard-to-please celebrities." (Does that mean you'll have to keep stock of illegal drugs?) (more)

Hot Shots Tennis: Get A Grip on June 29

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 11 hours, 11 minutes ago

It feels like it's been too long since the last Hot Shots game. That'll change in late June, though, with the arrival of Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip for PSP. According to PlayStation Blog, this isn't a port of the 2007 PS2 Hot Shots Golf spin-off, but rather a new Hot Shots Tennis game, featuring an "all-new tennis adventure." And by adventure, they mean it. The new Story Mode will require exploration, as you travel the world "spreading tennis love to everyone and anyone you meet." Sounds a bit like Mar... (more)

Take home the real-life, solar-powered ModNation Racers golf cart

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 11 hours, 14 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 7:27:01 PM GMT
Alright, stick with us, here: Last month, Sony collaborated with graphic artist Jeremiah Garcia to create a ModNation Racers-branded golf cart. It was supposed to be designed to look like it was created by the indie rock troupe Passion Pit (of LittleBigPlanet 2 trailer fame) -- whatever that means. The cart, which runs on solar power, was then displayed at the Coachella Festival to help promote the green energy movement in collaboration with the non-profit group Global Inheritance. But never mind all of ... (more)

PS3 proved profitable in last Sony fiscal year

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2627 days, 11 hours, 19 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 7:21:53 PM GMT
The PS3 was a bright spot for Sony in its fiscal year 2009 (ending March 31, 2010). Thanks to a strong yen and a rise in PS3 hardware sales (you go Slim!), the console finally became profitable for Sony at the tail end of the fiscal year, according to Reuters (via adriasang); despite the Network Products & Services division, which includes games, seeing a decline in overall product sales. The division operated at a loss of ¥8.3 billion ($89.38 million), a marginal improvement over the previous year's... (more)
