posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2773 days, 2 hours, 13 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 7:15:56 PM GMT
Though Microsoft has already announced it will be doubling up on this year's helping of E3 media showings, we received word this morning that Sunday evening's Project Natal event will feature a "spectacular live performance imagined by Cirque du Soleil." The June 13 event had only been scantly detailed since we first got our invites back in March -- luckily, we always anticipated some kind of media circus. (more)

Analysts discuss impact of EA Sports Online Pass

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2773 days, 2 hours, 22 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 7:07:27 PM GMT
Over at IndustryGamers, several analysts have chimed in on EA's latest assault on used game sales: The EA Sports Online Pass. The pass will offer players access to online features -- up to and possibly including online multiplayer -- on all future EA Sports titles starting with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. Should someone buy a game used, additional passes can be purchased for $10. The overall consensus among analysts: It's a good thing and a smart move on EA's part. (more)

During a recent investor's presentation, Namco Bandai relayed some projections for a few of its top titles -- specifically, recent releases Clash of the Titans and Dead to Rights: Retribution and upcoming Splatterhouse and Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom. The presentation is available here, though due to the fact that it's in some foreign language (what are they speaking, Klingon?), we defer to Siliconera's translation. (more)

LimeWire Found Guilty of Copyright Infringement

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2773 days, 2 hours, 34 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 6:54:55 PM GMT
It's a bad day for the file-sharing service LimeWire, as U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood of the Southern District of New York found its operators liable for copyright infringement. The ruling came after the RIAA filed a claim that Lime Group and its founder Mark Gorton committed copyright infringement, induced copyright infringement, and engaged in unfair competition based on the copyrighted content found on the peer-to-peer network. Nexus One Running Android 2.2 is 450% Faster

Google has a habit of giving future versions really tasty sounding codenames. Be it Cupcake, Éclair or Froyo, they all sound delicious. However, Froyo (that’s Android 2.2) is sounding more and more delicious by the day because when it hits my Nexus One, Android will be 450 percent faster than it is now. (more)

Android 2.2 Does USB Tethering, Wi-Fi Hot Spot

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2773 days, 2 hours, 51 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 6:38:08 PM GMT
The next version of Google's Android platform, codenamed Froyo, looks to kick Apple where it hurts. While we've already learned that v2.2 brings native Flash support, more memory, and apparently a huge 450-percent boost in overall performance (which 2.1 was supposed to offer but apparently did the opposite), the next spike in the groin is the platform's ability to not only provide native USB tethering support, but act as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. If you don't know what we're talking about, it's the advertisements that start with "We [heart] Apple." (more)

Air Force feels afterburned as Sony clips the PS3's Linux wings

When we learned that the Air Force was buying 300 PS3s we knew it could mean only one thing: all-night HAWX LAN party. But, when the order came through for 2,200 more, it seemed something more serious was afoot, and sure enough the armed force that aims higher was aiming to use them as a cluster for high-def video processing. New iPhone in Vietnam spotted running iPhone OS 4?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2773 days, 3 hours, 10 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 6:18:55 PM GMT
This is a bit of a confusing one, but we just got tipped an additional shot of this 4th generation iPhone that leaked out in Vietnam, but this time with a big twist: it appears to be running iPhone OS 4. Or at least displaying a screenshot of the new OS, with that telltale wallpaper in the background. We have no idea how this crew might've circumvented Apple's lockdown of the device, and there's always the chance this is some sort of Photoshop or other trickery. (more)

Plastic Logic plans 2012 launch for color e-paper display

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2773 days, 3 hours, 17 minutes ago
Thursday, May 13, 2010 6:12:24 PM GMT
E-readers as a whole best be watching their backs (or planning a wave of new functions, one), but it's safe to say that having color displays would give 'em a leg-up on the retina-killing, battery-draining LCD-based alternatives. Plastic Logic is still working to get its first e-reader (the decidedly not color QUE, for those curious) into the paws of consumers, but already the outfit is planning for the next big thing. (more)

As you may be aware, Hulu rolled out an updated version of its video player today, but what you may not have noticed is that the company also took advantage of the occasion to briefly talk about HTML5. In a post on the Hulu blog (which has curiously since been pulled, though it remains in the RSS feed), Hulu's VP of Product Eugene Wei took a moment for an "aside on HTML5," in which he said that while Hulu continues to monitor developments on HTML5, (more)

Xbox 360 and LG form a 3D partnership in South Korea

While Microsoft isn't pushing 3D gaming as heavily as Sony is, you know they have to be thinking about it. And from the looks of things, it seems like they're also working on it in some form. Engadget caught wind of a Korean press release that says that LG and Microsoft are going to buddy up and jointly market LG's new 3D TVs alongside 3D-enabled Xbox 360 games in South Korea, moving later to greater Asia. They'll actually bundle Xbox 360 3D games with the LG 55 or 47LX9500 LED set by the end of June. (more)
