Split/Second shows off 'power plays' in latest video

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2789 days, 4 hours, 30 minutes ago
Monday, April 26, 2010 5:43:41 AM GMT
It's weird talking about Split/Second at this stage in its race to retail. Black Rock Studios has already proven itself to be an impressively competent studio with the under-appreciated Pure and there's nothing about our numerous experiences with Split/Second that make us think this game will crash and burn. The latest video released for the game shows how the "power plays" will work. If you don't recognize the term, you may know them as the "environment is coming to kill you" moments. Only a little o... LittleBigPlanet PSP 'Turbo Pack' dons its hard hat

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2789 days, 4 hours, 31 minutes ago
Monday, April 26, 2010 5:42:41 AM GMT
If you've been keeping up with the upcoming content expansion for LittleBigPlanet on the PSP, you've already heard about its new stock car racing-inspired tracks and vehicles. However, a new Media Molecule dev diary has revealed the DLC will not only allow players to race, but also to create. Oh, wait. They could already do that, couldn't they? To clarify, it will give Sackpeople a whole slew of construction-based vehicles, such as forklifts, cranes and cement mixers. (more)

Finding a new dimension for gaming at the 3D Gaming Summit

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2789 days, 4 hours, 32 minutes ago
Monday, April 26, 2010 5:41:48 AM GMT
A small crowd of movie and game producers met this week at Universal City in Los Angeles for the first-ever 3D Gaming Summit, to sit down and discuss the trend of 3D imaging in gaming and film. Much of the talk at the summit was speculative -- with almost no actual consumer devices on the market and nearly none within price range of the average consumer anyway, gaming in 3D isn't much more than an idea at this point. Most of the technology companies in attendance are still working to get content producer... (more)

Skate 3 trailer takes us to the urban playground

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2789 days, 4 hours, 33 minutes ago
Monday, April 26, 2010 5:40:32 AM GMT
Here's the thing about this Skate 3 trailer: it's freakin' nuts. Does it have narration from Skateboard Sense? Check. How about some raw meat grinding a huge ledge? Yup, it's there. What about a brief section where some dude goes crazy, pounding everyone around him with a skateboard? How about zombies and big heads and tons of bails and -- okay, you get the picture. (more)

Tricked again! RUSE delayed to September

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2789 days, 4 hours, 34 minutes ago
Monday, April 26, 2010 5:39:31 AM GMT
Alright, RUSE dev team at Ubisoft, that's quite enough! This is at least the fourth time your game has been pushed back from a retail release and frankly, we're tired of thinking up punny headlines based on your game's title at this point. So we'll just be straight up with you, dearest reader: RUSE's Facebook page has been updated by the development team reflecting another delay until sometime in September. (more)

As promised, the first two episodes of Alan Wake's live-action prequel, titled "Bright Falls," became available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers earlier this morning. However, though Microsoft said we shouldn't expect to see the videos anywhere else for a couple of days, the New York Times managed to get its hands on the series' first two installments. They're on the newspaper's website right now, and they are weird as hell. (more)

Super Street Fighter IV 'Fight Club' event had its highs and lows

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2789 days, 4 hours, 36 minutes ago
Monday, April 26, 2010 5:37:20 AM GMT
Capcom's recent promotional get-together for its upcoming renovated fighting game, Super Street Fighter IV, was chock-full of exciting moments for die-hard fans of the series. The pinnacle moment of the "Fight Club" event was, undoubtedly, the final showdown between Street Fighter legends Daigo Umehara and Justin Wong, the entirety of which was captured on video. You don't have to know much about the franchise to appreciate the epicness of this match-up, or to recognize how impossibly radical the final ... (more)

We've got to hand it to Avalanche Software: You guys sure know how to inject a modicum of ingenuity into an extremely tired genre. For instance, the upcoming game adaptation of Toy Story 3 was off our proverbial radar moments after it was first announced -- however, a recent trailer for the game's "Toy Box" mode, which allows its (presumably juvenile) players to make their own levels and missions, it's now taking up a tiny place in our minds. The Hubble Space Telescope celebrates its 20th birthday today with the release of another photo that could come straight from the cover of a 1970s prog rock album. It shows a small portion of one of the largest known star-birth regions in the galaxy, the Carina Nebula. Three light-year-tall towers of cool hydrogen laced with dust rise from the wall of the nebula. (more)

Ubisoft's DRM for Assassin's Creed II is Cracked

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2789 days, 4 hours, 53 minutes ago
Monday, April 26, 2010 5:20:16 AM GMT
In the ongoing effort to protect the hard work of the developers, Ubisoft created a DRM scheme that required a constant internet connection for all gameplay, be it single player or multiplayer. Without a constant connection to Ubisoft's master servers, the game cannot be played. This form of protection caused great inconveniences for buyers of the game, be it on the internet connection end or a takedown of the Ubisoft servers. While the DRM was causing grief for real buyers of the game, it did keep the ... (more)

PS3 firmware 3.30 sneaks in remote play from PC, bitstream audio options

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2789 days, 4 hours, 55 minutes ago

Additional trophy sorting and 3D gaming readiness should have been enough to satisfy and PS3 owner after the latest v3.30 system update (hey, at least it didn't take anything away this time) but there's a couple other surprises in store. If you're the kind of person who loves (or hates) their beeps and bloops, there's a toggle for Bitstream Direct (output audio with the original digital signal prioritized) or Mix (mixed with sound effects such as button sounds and then converted to bitstream format) on B... iPad Camera Kit ships with USB headset and keyboard support

Reports are coming in that the iPad Camera Connection Kit has finally shown up on a couple buyer doorsteps, and that the pair of white dongles may actually have been worth the wait. While one is a simple SD card adapter that adds one-touch image and video import (including RAW, complete with EXIF data) to the iPad, the second provides a USB port with some exciting new functionality. TUAW reports one reader could type on an iPad via USB keyboard, and those rumors about USB audio were true, (more)

Sony Dash spotted on shelf at Best Buy a few days early

That's right, the Dash - which is available for pre-order but wasn't supposed to hit retail until April 29th -- is already on the shelf. Now, there was only one unit available and it was just squeezed in between some other wares, so we're not sure if it was put out by accident or what, but if you're really dying t... (more)
