Gran Turismo Creator Takes To Top Gear's Test Track

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2740 days, 18 hours, 4 minutes ago
Thursday, April 22, 2010 7:18:06 PM GMT
Continuing a partnership begun with the game's prologue, Gran Turismo 5 is once again teaming up with British TV series Top Gear, with the inclusion of the show's famous test track in Sony's PS3 racer. Die-hard fans of the game (or show) may remember a fleeting promise of this all the way back in 2007, but having recently been measured on the ground and photographed from the air over the course of four days, the track - which is used on the show to test cars as well as the driving skills of celebrities -... Bungie Lets Its Inner Fan Shine In Halo Reach's Carnàge Carnivàle

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2740 days, 18 hours, 5 minutes ago
Thursday, April 22, 2010 7:17:04 PM GMT
In this latest video documentary for Halo Reach, Bungie developers discuss the features of the upcoming multiplayer beta with the same sort of enthusiasm you'd see from a bunch of guys hanging out at a game store. Designer and Kotaku alum Luke Smith and engineering lead Luke Timmins in particular display a level of enthusiasm for Halo Reach multiplayer that borders on fanboyism. Normally I'd find that annoying, but when it's the guys creating the game doing it, it's quite heartening. When your game's big... (more)

The Luxuries And Problems With Six-Screen Gaming

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2740 days, 18 hours, 7 minutes ago
Thursday, April 22, 2010 7:15:22 PM GMT
Yesterday, in New York, I got to see graphics-card-maker AMD's six-monitor gaming set-up in action. They call it the Eyefinity 6, an arrangement that is powered by a $480 graphics card called the ATI Radeon 5870 (Eyefinity 6 Edition.) Various monitors can be wired together for an Eyefinity 6 set-up, but the unpriced all-in-one version was what I got to check out. It uses 19"x10" Samsung monitors (which sell separately for about $400 or $500). (more)

World premiere first look at Deep Silver's Nail'd

If there's one thing we probably have enough of by now, it's the MX/ATV genre of racers. Is there really room for another off-road racing game? There is with Nail'd, as this game is doing what the others haven't: make physics its b*tch. (more)

It's no secret that the once brilliant Silent Hill series could do with a change, but if a recent rumor turns out to be true, a refresh on a most dramatic scale is coming. The latest chapter in the survival horror series could be going all FPS on our asses. (more)

Here's how Super Mario Galaxy 2's 'Super Guide' works

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2741 days, 16 hours, 42 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 8:39:57 PM GMT
I got to check out Super Mario Galaxy 2 at Nintendo yesterday and one of the new things that was revealed to me was Galaxy 2's version of the Super Guide feature seen in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. There's actually two systems in place to aid players: Hint TV and the Cosmic Guide. Mario will come across special TVs in levels which will show him how to get across certain sections. In one of the levels in the Fluffy Bluff Galaxy, there's a large open space that Mario needs to get across using the cloud suit... (more)

Epic Xenoblade trailer is epic

Here's a new Japanese trailer for Wii RPG Xenoblade. Interesting premise? Check. Dramatic cutscenes? Check. Awesome enemy designs? Check. Gorgeous music? Check. Gameplay footage? Uhm ... Seriously, we could really do with getting a look at how this damn thing plays. Everything I've seen concerning Xenoblade promises a terrific little RPG experience, but until we get a good look at the battle system, this is nothing but concept and whispers. I am itching to see how the game really looks, not just how cuts... (more)

PSP Go on sale for $189 from Dell

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2741 days, 16 hours, 53 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 8:29:12 PM GMT
If you've stubbornly held off on purchasing a PSP Go until it's available at a slightly more reasonable price, you may want to turn your attention to Dell's current discount on the handheld. If you purchase a Go on Dell's site right now, you'll get an instant $60 rebate, knocking the total cost down to $189. Shipping is free as well, so you won't concern yourself with any pesky weight and distance estimations. As the salespeople on TV would say, you just set it, and forget it. (more)

On top of the 10 maps included on the game disc, this pair of DLC maps will be used as a pre-order incentive (apparently exclusive to GameStop) and will also be made available for all owners of the game to purchase at an unspecified point in time after the game's release. PS3 Final Fight: Double Impact requires PSN connection

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2741 days, 16 hours, 55 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 8:26:53 PM GMT
Final Fight: Double Impact may be a collection of retro games, but some owners of the PS3 version have discovered that it is, at heart, a little too modern. The game will not run unless the user is signed into an online PSN account. If you try to load up Double Impact while not signed in, you'll just get a curt "Sign into PlayStation Network. (80029516)" message on the screen. (The Xbox 360 version launches without issue, even when not signed into Xbox Live.) (more)

Rumor: Xbox Live TV channel pitched to Microsoft by ex-News Corp head

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2741 days, 16 hours, 57 minutes ago

Our laziness, it knows no bounds: We just can't stand changing out game discs from our systems (hooray digital distribution!), not to mention the agonizing chore of pushing the source button on our TV remote to flip back to broadcast programming. And that's why we're especially happy to hear a rumor from Bloomberg today that ex-News Corp president Peter Chernin is engaged in talks with Microsoft to possibly launch an Xbox Live television channel. XBLA in Brief: Puzzle Chronicles, After Burner Climax

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2741 days, 16 hours, 58 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 8:24:07 PM GMT
We've got two wildly disparate games on Xbox Live Arcade this week. For the puzzle game / RPG hybrid fans, there's Puzzle Chronicles, essentially a different take on Puzzle Quest (which makes sense, as both were developed by Infinite Interactive). If you're more of an action bent, then After Burner Climax will be right up your alley. So, what's it going to be, saving the kingdom one rotating gem at a time or blasting bogeys from the sky? Watch the latest XBLA in Brief and see if either 800 ($10) title de... (more)

Support for Xbox Live on the original Xbox has been gone for just about a week now, and with the accompanying technical limitations that the continued support created also gone, Microsoft is now evaluating potential new features for Xbox Live. And among those features is an expanded friends list beyond the current cap of 100 friends. "We're at that point now," Microsoft product director Aaron Greenberg told Xbox World 360 magazine (via CVG), "where that community has largely transitioned off and onto the... (more)
