70'' 3D HDTV Doesn't Require Silly Glasses

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2651 days, 2 hours, 31 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 8:04:57 PM GMT
Digitimes reports that Newsight demonstrated 3D displays at the Finetech Japan 2010 expo in Tokyo that didn't require special glasses. Apparently the displays use NewSight's parallax barrier technology that subdivides the image into complex repeating segments. The company told the site that the special barrier is attached to commercial-grade LCDs "in a precision assembly process." (more)

Apple to Gizmodo: Return That $5,000 iPhone 4G

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2651 days, 2 hours, 34 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 8:02:18 PM GMT
Various reports are indicating that Gizmodo paid $5,000 (plus a bonus for traffic) or $10,000 for the next-generation iPhone previewed on Monday, depending on the source. Gawker Media founder Nick Denton clarified the pricetag last night here on Twitter, saying that the company paid the lower fee and that "we'll do anything for a story." Either way, Gizmodo racked in over 15 million page views by the end of the day, and may have damaged its relationship with Apple in the process. (more)

Who Has Fastest, Cheapest Internet in the World?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2651 days, 2 hours, 42 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 7:53:58 PM GMT
Despite how often we hear that the U.S. lags behind other countries in terms of internet speed (which is still true), the fastest internet in the world, according to a report from Akamai Technologies, is in Berkeley, California at an average speed of 18.7Mbps. In fact, the second and third fastest internet offerings in the world are also in the U.S., in Chapel Hill, NC (average speed: 17.5Mbps) and Stanford, Calif. (average speed: 17.0Mbps) Of course, the obvious linkage there is that the internet is tie... (more)

Google vs. Apple: Battle of the Copycats

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2651 days, 2 hours, 44 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 7:52:17 PM GMT
So there you have it. Google will release its own tablet to steal a piece of the iPad pie. Lately, it seems, Google puts quite a bit of effort into annoying Apple. Conceivably, Google has already become the new Microsoft by trying to be everything to everyone and this upcoming tablet may just be another example of how Google is much more a content provider than a hardware company. But there is also a real chance that Google can succeed and beat Apple’s iPad—the iPad isn’t as new and magical as Apple clai... (more)

Steve Jobs: Folks Who Want Porn Can Buy Android

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2651 days, 2 hours, 46 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 7:50:38 PM GMT
Since Apple has the authority to approve what's sold on its App Store for things that'll run on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, it can also control what users of its devices aren't allowed to see. One such category of things that Apple wants to keep away from its App Store is anything of pornographic nature, and if consumers aren't happy about that, then Steve Jobs will point them to buying an Android phone. Look. You can either wear your iPad, or you can wear your iPad -- like this stylish trailblazer spotted at the Lennox Mall in Atlanta this week. Of course, we've been wearing ours like this since day one, but it's always nice to see a trend catch on. Let's just hope no one tries to steal this guy's iPad. We all know how that can end. (more)

Curious timing, no? Nary a fortnight after Olympus announced an autofocus-related firmware update for its line of Micro Four Thirds cameras (the PEN E-P1, E-P2 and E-PL1), along comes Panasonic with an all-too-similar round of firmware fixes for their own MFT range. Slated to hit the interwebs on May 10th, a trio of new updates will purportedly bring improved autofocus performance with third-party lenses as well as recognition of the new 14-42mm kit zoom to the DMC-GF1, DMC-GH1 and DMC-G1. Tony Hawk's Tony Hawk: Shred Outed By Tony Hawk

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2652 days, 2 hours, 47 minutes ago
Tuesday, April 20, 2010 7:49:44 PM GMT
Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk may have just officially sent the Activision PR team into a 720-degree tizzy, tweeting about Tony Hawk: Shred, quite possibly the more shred-tastic follow-up to the skateboard-as-controller experiment Tony Hawk: Ride. Mr. Hawk cryptically named something that we're just wildly assuming is his next project by way of the Twitter, saying "Tony Hawk: Shred. There, I said it. Actually, I named it. Somewhere a PR team is reeling." Doubtful, as we've been expecting more Tony Hawk:... (more)

FMV adventure! Hysteria Project, for PS3 and PSP

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2652 days, 2 hours, 55 minutes ago
Tuesday, April 20, 2010 7:41:02 PM GMT
Ah, remember the days of FMV game play? Well, I guess "game play" doesn't exactly fit. It was closer to watching. Watching and thinking. Like Myst. One of my favorites ever was a PC game called Drowned God. Did anyone out there also play that? Freaky sh*t. I love these FMV games, so I'm glad that there's another coming in the form of a PSP/PS3 Mini. Sanuk Games' Hysteria Project puts you in the middle of the FMV. According to the PlayStation Blog, it won the “Revelation 2009” Milthon award in Paris in a... (more)

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 coming spring 2011 to PS3, Xbox 360

As Arnold Schwarzenegger would say: "It's not a rumah!" Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is very real, and was unveiled by Capcom last week at its Captivate 2010 event. As you can see in the trailer above, the series is going fully polygonal for round three, with visuals that its publisher says deliver "a 'moving comic' style, blurring the boundaries between 2D and 3D graphics." Save for the fairly mundane cityscape, we'd have to agree that the characters in the video look like an evolution of wh... (more)

This post is ... well, it's no different at all. Posted after the jump is the list of Achievements included in the DLC, a handful of which may ruin certain plot points you might want to avoid until you get your hands on the new chapter. Ubisoft Transitioning to Digital Game Manuals

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2652 days, 3 hours, 5 minutes ago
Tuesday, April 20, 2010 7:31:19 PM GMT
In an effort to be more environmentally conscious, Ubisoft is doing away with what was considered one of the hallmarks of the new video game experience. The publisher announced today that they will no longer be creating paper manuals for their games, instead relying entirely on in-game digital versions. According to the official release, producing the roughly one ton of paper needed to create a manual means consuming 13 trees and emitting roughly 6000 pounds of carbon dioxide. In addition, the 28 million... (more)
