It's been about two months since Nintendo and Monolith Soft took the veils off Xenoblade, the new RPG from producer Tetsuya Takahashi and his team. Nintendo was originally planning a spring release for the Wii fantasy epic, but that's since been pushed back a bit -- according to the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, Xenoblade will now touch down in Japan on June 10 for 6800 yen. Turn Your Droid Into a Portable Gaming System

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2630 days, 21 hours, 8 minutes ago
Thursday, April 15, 2010 8:19:21 AM GMT
Alright let's face it: while Verizon promoted the Motorola Droid as the "iPhone Killer," the Android platform so far hasn't offered much in the way of gaming. The Android Market isn't clean and tidy either, making it difficult to find something exceptional and "hard core." Really good games are hard to come by, and because the Market is addressed to multiple devices, fumbling with a game designed for a smartphone keyboard can get downright annoying. (more)

In early February, Microsoft announced that it will be shutting down the original Xbox Live service tomorrow on April 15, 2010. That means that games still being played over Xbox Live, such as Halo 2 and Counter-Strike, will no longer have online functionality after the shut off date. Droid Incredible specs confirmed on Verizon site

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2630 days, 21 hours, 15 minutes ago
Thursday, April 15, 2010 8:12:15 AM GMT
Yes, good people of Engadgetland, we finally have an official spec sheet for the eagerly awaited Incredible handset. A 3.7-inch OLED touchscreen leads the way, with an 800 x 480 resolution, which will offer the full Google Experience on Android version 2.1. That sounds remarkably like a refashioned Nexus One to us, even down to the 1GHz Snapdragon chip inside, but where the Droid Incredible differs is in its inclusion of Sense UI (à la the Desire) and an 8 megapixel autofocusing camera. We're also seei... (more)

PhoneGap framework fine for App Store development, sez Apple

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2630 days, 21 hours, 17 minutes ago
Thursday, April 15, 2010 8:10:36 AM GMT
Now, we've all been concerned about recent updates to the iPhone dev agreement -- you haven't been sleeping and your parents are, quite frankly, worried for your sanity. And it's a heady subject: "what is the fate of PhoneGap in the wake of the iPhone OS 4 beta SDK?" Well, worry no more, little one -- it seems that Jesse Macfadyen, a contributor to the project, pinged Apple to make sure that users of the mobile development platform wouldn't find their apps rejected simply for using the tool. Sure, you saw the first part of the Dead to Rights: Retribution behind the scenes video, but have you seen the second half? Yeah, we didn't think so. But it's here, just above, and Volatile Games project director Imre Jele is back again to lay out how the game was put together over the past few years. Jele describes the development as akin to a kid in a candy shop, unable to pick just one item and instead choosing everything. While that sounds nice from a quantity perspective, we're hoping things play o... (more)

DSiWare Capsule Reviews: Week of April 12, 2010

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2631 days, 19 hours, 50 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 14, 2010 9:37:40 AM GMT
The Nintendo DSi is quickly becoming a platform of its own. The system, released in April 2009, isn't much more than upgraded Nintendo DS technology, but its built-in cameras and its incorporated data storage give developers more to work with. And the DSi Shop can be a virtual sandbox for game creators to incorporate the DSi capabilities into downloadable titles. Or it's just an easy way to get simple DS ideas into gamers' hands without going the much more expensive retail route. (more)

Why Shooters Are Better on Wii

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2631 days, 19 hours, 51 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 14, 2010 9:36:26 AM GMT
I hate using the word "better" to describe a game. For a while now, I've wanted to move it onto the trash heap alongside "good," "bad," and "important," words that sound audacious but don't actually describe anything. That's the trap I've laid for myself, so let it be said here, if nowhere else: Wii shooters are better than the rest. Full stop. Hopefully you haven't snapped your mouse in rage while reading that. If you have, I promise to try and tell you just how and why so that loss won't have been in v... (more)

Wii Controllers Do Not Infringe Patents

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2631 days, 19 hours, 57 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 14, 2010 9:30:45 AM GMT
Nintendo's video game controllers do not infringe on a patent by Anascape Ltd., according to a court ruling today. The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that Nintendo's controllers -- including the Wii Remote, Nunchuck, Classic Controller and various Gamecube controllers -- do not infringe on various patents filed by Anascape. This judgement reverses a 2008 decision in Texas, which would have forced Nintendo to stop selling its signature controllers. (more)
