Etrian Odyssey 3 Tops Japanese Charts

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2719 days, 8 hours, 31 minutes ago
Sunday, April 11, 2010 9:37:56 AM GMT
PS3 and PSP gave control of Media Create's Japanese software chart back to the DS this week as Etrian Odyssey 3 took the number one spot. But both Sony platforms continued to lead the way in hardware. Etrian Odyssey 3, which adds a sea-going component to the RPG series, was delayed just a bit beyond its original planned date. But gamers still picked up 75% of Atlus' shipment, good for 88,000 sales. February 2008's Etrian Odyssey 2 sold a bit less, at 69,000 units first week. (more)

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City Review

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2719 days, 8 hours, 33 minutes ago
Sunday, April 11, 2010 9:36:23 AM GMT
April 9, 2010 - It's been two years since GTA IV hit store shelves and no new content has come to PS3. That's because Microsoft dropped some serious cash to secure the rights to two downloadable episodes. The exclusivity has run out and PS3 owners finally have the chance to extend their GTA experience. (more)

BulletStorm Revealed in Latest Game Informer

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2719 days, 8 hours, 35 minutes ago
Sunday, April 11, 2010 9:34:19 AM GMT
At this point, is there even any purpose left to Cliff Bleszinski appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon? The creator of the Gears of War series was set to appear on the show last Thursday, but was switched to Monday at the last minute. Since then, Gears of War 3 was accidently announced on Xbox Live, and now the other title he was likely to talk about has been revealed on the latest cover of Game Informer: BulletStorm. (more)

Crysis 2 Preview for the PC,PS3,Xbox 360 from 1UP.com

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2719 days, 8 hours, 36 minutes ago

One thing I've learned from listening to Cevat Yerli (founder, and CEO/President of Crytek) and Cliff Bleszinski (design director at Epic Games) is that game developers really like messing up nice things. Yerli uses the catchphrase, "catastrophic beauty," when he details some of the key aspects of the upcoming Crysis 2 -- which sounds eerily like the way Bleszinski threw around the words, "destroyed beauty" (in fact, it's even the name of the official artbook) during the development of the original Gears... The Halo Movie is Still Happening, Says Microsoft

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2719 days, 8 hours, 38 minutes ago
Sunday, April 11, 2010 9:31:09 AM GMT
It's been a while since we've heard anything positive regarding the possibility of a Halo movie. The on-again-off-again status of the movie has teased Halo fans for years. However, a few years back, the project was declared completely dead. Microsoft's Frank O'Connor has provided renewed hope for those desperate to see the Master Chief on the silver screen. IGN reports that speaking at MI6 in San Francisco last week, O'Connor said that they are going to make the movie, but when the time is right. (more)

Adobe says iPhone / iPad adoption and 'alternative technologies' (cough, HTML5) could harm its business

Adobe might continue to crow about Flash and its importance on both the desktop and mobile devices, but there's no lying to investors, and the company is pretty blunt about the threat of the iPhone and iPad in the end-of-quarter Form 10-Q it just filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission: it flatly says that "to the extent new releases of operating systems or other third-party products, platforms or devices, such as the Apple iPhone or iPad, make it more difficult for our products to perform, and... posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2719 days, 8 hours, 42 minutes ago

Stuart Hughes usually reserves its gold and diamonds for recent gadgets, but the fine purveyor of ridiculous excess has taken a slightly different approach with its latest offering: the $200,000+ Privé brick phone. In addition to a 22ct gold shell and a smattering of diamonds, this apparently functional phone packs a color screen and features like SMS support and, um... buttons. Limited to just ten but, amazingly, still in stock. (more)

FCC slams Verizon CEO on "baffling" spectrum comments

Good news, smartphone fans. It turns out there may not be a looming spectrum crisis after all. That's according to Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg, who suggested to the Council on Foreign Relations on Tuesday that it's time to relax about this matter. "If video takes off, could we have a spectrum shortage in five or seven years?" Seidenberg asked out loud. "Could be, but I think that technology will tend to solve these issues. And I think, as I said, I happen to think that we'll advance fast enough that som... (more)

April 9, 2010 - If you thought Halo couldn't get any bigger, think again. The franchise is poised to continue to grow even larger now that Microsoft's internal Halo team, 343 Industries, has taken control of Master Chief. Speaking at a session during the MI6 marketing conference in San Francisco last week, franchise development director Frank O'Connor discussed the challenges and benefits of expanding the Halo brand into other entertainment mediums. Almost the entire track list for Green Day: Rock Band had already been leaked thanks to an early retail listing last month. Fortunately, some of the pleasant surprises -- like the entirety of Green Day albums Dookie and American Idiot being in the game -- have turned out to be entirely correct. And there will indeed be 12 songs from 21st Century Breakdown included, with the other six continuing to be available as DLC. Despite the doom and gloom around PC gaming that's gone on for years now, research shows that the PC gaming hardware market is still very strong. In fact, it seems that the type of people who like to read Tom's Hardware – the enthusiast class – account for nearly half of the dollars spent towards gaming hardware. According to Jon Peddie Research, 46 percent of the dollars spent in 2009 on stuff like boutique PCs, high-end processors and graphics cards, SSD's, specialized gaming mice, keyboards, speakers... You might remember our writing about Windows 95 running on the iPhone in July of last year. The iSoft team achieved this using the Bochs emulator and an original Windows 95 image. Well it would seem the folks at iSoft have done it again. After receiving an email from someone named Pavel Egorkin, we did a little research and it turns out Pavel is part of the iSoft dev team. Pavel sent us the following video of Windows 95 running on an iPad. (more)

Where is the Asus Eee Keyboard? The Taiwanese computer company still says that it is on its way, despite almost a year's worth of delays. Last month we heard that the new date given to the innovative PC-in-a-keyboard product is April, which would be the month that we're currently cruising through. Asus now only has three weeks to make good on that promise, but we're feeling optimistic this time. (more)
