Twenty-eight-year-old Asteroids high score beaten

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2723 days, 9 hours, 4 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 07, 2010 9:03:45 AM GMT
America gets a bum wrap sometimes, but you should keep something in mind. You should remember that America's the sort of country where a 41-year-old locksmith from Seattle can spend 58 hours of that most precious gift of life scoring 41,336,440 points in Asteroids to break a 28-year-old world record. We're not sure what that implies about this great land, but it implies it very, very hard. (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2723 days, 9 hours, 9 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 07, 2010 8:58:19 AM GMT
Sony already irked a few people by removing the "install other OS" with its PS3 firmware 3.21 update, and it looks like it may have also inadvertently drawn the ire of quite a few other users. Judging from reports on the official PlayStation forums, a sizable number of PS3 users have run into an array of different problems after installing the update, which range from folks not being able to log into PSN or load a disc after the update, to users not being able to turn on their PS3 at all -- some have eve... Mention piano lessons to kids and watch them cringe. Mention playing really awesome games on the Nintendo DS and watch them get all excited. Now, mention piano lessons on the Nintendo DS and watch them squirm in confusion, a definite improved reaction that's all thanks to Easy Piano, which is now shipping to retail. It's a $40 game (of sorts) plus 13 key mini-piano that, if you're lucky, your children might confuse for the Guitar Hero: On Tour controller. (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2723 days, 9 hours, 13 minutes ago

If you've been patiently waiting on a low-cost NVIDIA Ion 2 system it looks like today is your lucky day since it looks like Lenovo has scored an early lead in unleashing the wrath of the new Atom / GeForce combo. Available sometime this month, the 18.5-inch C200 all-in-one isn't going to replace that Core i7 rig for ripping through Command & Conquer 4, but its Intel dual-core Atom D510 CPU can handle the light productivity while its GeForce G210 GPU will automatically turn on -- thanks to Optimus --... Net Neutrality Dealt A Severe Blow As Comcast Wins FCC Appeal

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2723 days, 9 hours, 28 minutes ago

Comcast customers have reason to be nervous today, as a federal appeals court rules that the Federal Communications Commission doesn't have the authority to enforce Net Neutrality on internet providers. The FCC wants everyone to have a similar internet experience, without having access to legal content blocked by internet access providers. This is the basis for Net Neutrality, and internet users are generally big fans of the concept. (more)

After a strong early showing on the U.K. charts, Just Cause 2 has been bumped out of the #1 spot by another "Just" title -- Ubisoft's Wii party game Just Dance. Nevertheless, Just Cause 2 continues to hold steady at #2, followed by mainstream favorites Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Modern Warfare 2 and Pokemon Soul Silver. Dropping out of the top 10 this week are March releases God of War III and and Final Fantasy XIII, falling to #14 and #15 respectively. Six of the top ten titles were released in 2009. ... (more)

Victims of Call of Duty crash get Xbox Live credit of about 90 cents

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2723 days, 10 hours, 21 minutes ago

Gamers who bought the bug-inducing downloadable content (DLC) pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox 360 have been credited with 7 free days of Xbox Live Gold. When Microsoft posted the enhanced game update to the Xbox Live Marketplace on March 30, it made a fatal error by making the download available before the Call of Duty game itself was updated to accept the download. Xbox 360 USB storage is live, with list of gotchas

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2723 days, 10 hours, 34 minutes ago

Joystiq broke the story that USB storage was coming to the Xbox 360; today, the update goes live. A quick download, and suddenly you're not dependent on Microsoft to sell you overpriced hard drives. Of course, the ability to use USB storage comes with a few limitations. The storage device has to be over 1GB. You can only use 16GB of the storage device, no matter how large it is. You can use up to two devices at a time, giving you 32GB of storage. In other words, if you have a bunch of small USB sticks k... (more)

The PS3 Slim isn't just slim, it's also lighter than the previous model of the console. Which means it's slightly easier to take the thing on the road. Hence this portable gaming rig. Built by Japanese peripheral specialists Hori, it's an LCD screen that attaches to the top of the console, and is able to display games in high definition (720p). (more)

Flower soundtrack arriving on PSN this week

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2724 days, 8 hours, 44 minutes ago
Tuesday, April 06, 2010 9:23:23 AM GMT
There are few games that I feel really need to be experienced by every person and not just fans of the hobby. Flower is one of those games. It's less a game than an experience (at least until they tried to shoehorn more traditional game concepts in at the very end) and it's an experience that is all-enveloping in its beauty. Of no small contribution to this is the exceptional soundtrack composed by Vincent Diamante. On Thursday, you'll be able to purchase this soundtrack for the highly reasonable price ... (more)

Cho Aniki Zero and Agarest War trailers break the silence -- Joystiq

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2724 days, 8 hours, 53 minutes ago

Aksys picked the right day to send out trailers for Cho Aniki Zero and Record of Agarest War. In the case of Cho Aniki, we wouldn't normally post a trailer for a game that was released over a week ago, but a general lack of news today gives us a pretty good excuse to post this new video! In case you missed its arrival on PSN in late March, let this video serve as notice that yes, the Men's Beam-firing shmup is downloadable now from the PlayStation Store. (more)

Gamers beware - you're 50 percent more likely to suffer spam and phishing attacks than other social network users. The reason, says BitDefender, is the way gamers are often willing to add any old Joe to their friends list if it gives them more people to play with or wins them higher scores. (more)
