Yakuza games are packed with odd minigames that have you hitting baseballs, playing darts, romancing hostesses, and even fishing for zombies. Yakuza 5 adds a new but familiar distraction, according to a leaked Famitsu article reported on by Andriasang: a Taiko Drum Master minigame. (more)

Ouya tops $8.5 million as Kickstarter campaign comes to a close

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1724 days, 13 hours, 59 minutes ago
Thursday, August 09, 2012 7:29:51 AM GMT
"We've been blown away the whole time," Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman said this afternoon, just 10 hours ahead of her company's Kickstarter project reaching its end. It's an understandable reaction considering the Android-based open-source console aimed to gather just $950K in total – the project lept over $1 million in its first eight hours, and crested over $8 million this afternoon. The final number at time of publishing? $8,580,682 (from 63,277 backers). (more)

Forza Motorsport 4: August pack brings 10 more cars

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1725 days, 14 hours, 6 minutes ago
Wednesday, August 08, 2012 7:23:24 AM GMT
The August Playseat Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 4 comes out today, August 7, on Xbox Live, priced at 560 Microsoft Points. You'll get 10 cars for your garage for that outlay, ranging from pretty standard (but still nice!) stuff like the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe to super cray-cray rides like the 2003 Aston Martin DB7 Zagato. As an import car geek I'm most looking forward to virtually test driving the 2013 Scion FR-S, the upcoming Toyota/Subaru collaboration vehicle. (more)

DayZ has found a tremendous amount of success as a mod for ArmA II, but you probably knew that already -- this is just one of those memorable games that us humans love to chat about. Of course, there are people who simply aren't going to play it, ever, despite the mod itself being free. (more)

EA vs. Zynga: EA thanks gamers for support

Electronic Arts couldn't have asked for a better enemy in Zynga. The social game kingpin is not only in financial trouble, it's also one of the most despised companies in the industry. EA must realize this, and has started sucking up to a game community that's not been too fond of either publisher. (more)

Review: The Expendables 2 Videogame

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1725 days, 14 hours, 14 minutes ago
Wednesday, August 08, 2012 7:15:03 AM GMT
As a general rule, licensed games tend to be poorly made, slapdash affairs looking to cash in on a brand rather than build upon it. Game development is a business first and foremost, after all, so why bother creating a superior product for an established brand when an inferior one will sell just as well? (more)

Review: Persona 4 Arena

Never in a million years would I have dreamed that I'd be playing a fighter based on a dungeon crawling role-playing game. Yet here I am, button mashing to call forth my Persona every few seconds, then plowing through countless dialogue boxes to follow the healthy storyline after another narrow victory. It's the weirdest thing and I'm still a bit confused, but I'm loving it anyway. (more)

A Week Between Blockbusters

Thanks to a polite and fiscally beneficial agreement between movie studios, you were saved from seconds of paralyzing indecision last weekend. Had Total Recall and The Bourne Legacy stuck to a shared release date in theaters, as originally scheduled, you'd have become a seated participant in an extravagant and mutually destructive showdown. Between Colin Farrell and Jeremy Renner, which pouting action star would have gotten your twelve bucks and two hours? (more)

Sony is either preparing a few unannounced IPs for the public eye, or it's really concerned about the weather at Gamescom next week. Sony has trademarked "Rain" and "Until Dawn" in the US and Europe, both as "computer game software." The above image was included with the Rain filing via OHIM, the European trademark system. (more)
