"A new report from the FTC is claiming minors have access to explicit content via online virtual worlds such as those found in online games. The report makes five recommendations to keep little Johnny away from the harms of Barrens chat: Use more effective age-screening mechanisms to prevent children from registering in adult virtual worlds; Use or enhance age-segregation techniques to make sure that people interact only with others in their age group; Re-examine language filters to ensure that they dete... Objection! Activision Now Suing No Doubt

posted by Alfonso CubiasAlfonso Cubias 2900 days, 21 hours, 54 minutes ago
Friday, December 11, 2009 5:58:10 AM GMT
No Doubt suing Activision was one of the feel-good stories of 2009. Mostly because it involved somebody suing Activision. Activision, however, are now counter-suing No Doubt. And things are probably going to get messy. No Doubt's beef comes from the fact they claim they only signed on to appear in the game singing No Doubt songs. Activisions, meanwhile, are suing the band over allegations including "failing to do its due diligence on the videogame before signing away its digital likeness, breaching a co... (more)

The director of action classics like The Killer and Face/Off, John Woo also dipped his big toe into video games with John Woo's Stranglehold, a Midway title that was a sequel to his flick Hardboiled. The film reunited the director with his star Chow Yun-Fat. There are plans to turn it into a feature film — Woo won't be directing. But will he be involved in making another game? "I don't have that much time," the filmmaker told website Cinematical, "even though I want to make one again." Woo currently h... (more)

Saboteur PC Not Working With ATI Graphics Cards?

posted by Alfonso CubiasAlfonso Cubias 2900 days, 21 hours, 55 minutes ago
Friday, December 11, 2009 5:57:22 AM GMT
Totilo thought The Saboteurwas a little rough on PlayStation 3. Lucky. He could have been playing it on PC with an ATI graphics card, in which case it wouldn't have worked at all. The game's official boards have been flooded with complaints from users claiming that ATI's 3k, 4k and 5k cards won't run the game in either XP, Vista or Windows 7. In other words, if you bought the game and own an ATI card, you're screwed. Indeed, things are so bad that online retailer Direct2Drive have placed a notice on th... (more)

Rumor: Big Layoffs At Aspyr - Aspyr

posted by Alfonso CubiasAlfonso Cubias 2900 days, 21 hours, 57 minutes ago
Friday, December 11, 2009 5:55:50 AM GMT
Aspyr, a publisher best known for porting games to the PC & Mac, is today instead best known for supposedly firing a whole bunch of employees. According to a report on Big Download, "over 50 percent" of Aspyr's workforce have recently been shown the door, with those remaining left to shamble around the company's now-spacious offices. As an owner of an Apple computer (albeit my laptop, not my main desktop), it's be a shame if this turns out to be the case. It's not like there are many Mac publishers... (more)

Having been presented for its first year of public existence as a social platform, PlayStation Home is about to be pushed in a new way: As a social gaming platform. "Pokemon Teaches Your Children To Worship Satan" - Kotaku

Pokémon, plural, turn kids into devil. They are monsters. And there's stabbing and shootings, too! Maybe it has something to do with the dark realm? Going by hairdos, this looks to be from the late 1990s or the turn of the century. Still remember that even with the passage of time certain things still hold true — such as that demons take pokémon seriously. So does Satan. Oh, and some of you cannot go to heaven. Sorry! POCKET MONSTERS ARE REALLY POCKET DEMONS... [Everything Is Terrible!] ... (more)

Making a parallel computing chip is hard, says Nvidia. This past weekend Intel announced that its plans for the graphics processor codenamed 'Larrabee' have been put on hold. Intel's Nick Knupffer said yesterday that the company had decided to delay plans for the graphics card because Larrabee's silicon and software development are behind where it had hoped they would be at this point in time. This news boosted shares of Nvidia and AMD, thanks mostly due to Intel's delay in its plans to compet... (more)
