Report: How Homefront's developer crumbled

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1755 days, 12 hours, 24 minutes ago
Monday, July 09, 2012 9:04:26 AM GMT
The slow demise of Kaos Studios leading up to its June 2011 closure has been attributed to poor management and a misallocation of resources, according to conversations anonymous ex-staff members had with Gamasutra. One of the Homefront developers believed THQ's "plan was to close the studio regardless." (more)

Valve has remained mum on the topic of a 2012 summer sale, but the Open SteamWorks CDR database has uncovered a list of bundles, mostly for indie titles, apparently set for the sale in Steam's backend. Reddit user Dweezy gathered a list of the bundles, broken down over an 11-day period, along with a few other standalone collections. (more)

WOAH! Left 4 Dead running on a PlayStation Vita

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1756 days, 11 hours, 58 minutes ago

Through magic, hacking, and ungodly trickery you can see Valve's Left 4 Dead running on a PS Vita. Well, kinda. One YouTube user, digitalarts001, has tweaked the PlayStation Suite to let him control Left 4 Dead running a PC with the Vita, with no noticeable lag. It looks nice and smooth, and it gives me hope for future Remote Play support for the system. Amazing. (more)

Persona 4 Arena: Atlus statement clarifies region-lock

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1756 days, 12 hours, 3 minutes ago
Sunday, July 08, 2012 9:25:33 AM GMT
Beyond this, Atlus wanted to clear the air on their policies as well as region-locking going forward. They call this an "isolated case" that was out of North American hands, and says that it all came down to having the game release in the two territories (Japan and U.S.) within two weeks of each other, at different price points, due to the difference in the dollar and yen. They say that region-locking was not put in place for control purposes. (more)

Anita Sarkeesian is a name that many gamers really weren't familiar with before she became the latest gamer harassment target. Now she's everywhere, and her controversial opinions have led to things like this -- a game in which players are invited to beat her face in. It's pretty creepy, as the screenshot above demonstrates. Voice acting in RPGs may be more trouble than it's worth

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1756 days, 12 hours, 51 minutes ago
Sunday, July 08, 2012 8:37:10 AM GMT
Jennifer Hale, Nolan North and Troy Baker, among others, have become video game celebrities for their voice acting – deservedly so, given how entertaining they can be as characters like Commander Shepard or Nathan Drake. Recorded speech has become a significant component of most all games, notably RPGs, having grown steadily since the shift to CD-ROM games in the mid-1990s. Yet their importance isn't always apparent.
