Friday, July 06, 2012 9:05:56 AM GMT
Remember the slickly produced teaser trailer for The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing? It turns out that said trailer was pretty far removed from the actual gameplay. Based on newly released footage, it appears that Van Helsing's PC and XBLA adventure will be of the dungeon-crawling variety. (more)

Blizzard: Diablo 3's 'item hunt' endgame isn't sustainable

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1841 days, 1 hour, 31 minutes ago
Friday, July 06, 2012 9:05:14 AM GMT
Diablo 3's current endgame, a supposedly endless item-hunt and enemy-slaughtering system, isn't as infinite as Blizzard first hoped it would be, and players are quickly running out of things to do, community manager Bashiok writes in the Battle.net forums. Blizzard is aware of this problem and is considering options for a more succinct endgame solution. (more)

On Monster Hunter 4's similarities to Dragon's Dogma

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1841 days, 1 hour, 32 minutes ago
Friday, July 06, 2012 9:04:16 AM GMT
Before Dragon's Dogma became a surprise success, the common refrain was that it was Monster Hunter for westerners. The developers expressed surprise, but given the presence of large, roaming beasts and Capcom's role as a publisher, the comparison was perhaps inevitable. (more)

Snapshot: Krater (PC)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1841 days, 1 hour, 33 minutes ago
Friday, July 06, 2012 9:02:51 AM GMT
Krater defies our usual classifications. At first glance, it appears to be a dungeon crawler, replete with monsters, spells and loot. And yet, it also has elements of real-time strategy, with players managing multiple units, each with their own abilities, strengths and weaknesses. Further still, we've got traditional role-playing elements, including an overworld map and even random encounters. (more)

FCC documents filed by Sony point to a new slim model PS3. The folks at pocketnews note that the new documents do match the currently available PS3 (the label position has changed), which means we could have another slim model coming up. The new model number, CECH-4001x also seems to have moved up from the currently available 3000 series. (more)

For those not up on their Greek mythology, Polyphemus is quite possibly the most famous cyclops ever. The son of Poseidon and the nymph Thoosa, Polyphemus plays a significant role in the myth of Odysseus when he captures the returning sailors and begins eating them, two at a time, until the Greeks manage to get him drunk and blind him with a sharpened branch to enable their escape. Polyphemus would later pray to his father for vengeance, causing further problems on the voyage. (more)

Tantalus Media makes mostly portable and licensed titles these days (try Cars 2: Mater-national Championship for the Game Boy Advance), but their 40+ game history had them working on bigger stuff in the past for consoles, like Wipeout 2097 for the Saturn, or Area 51 on the PlayStation. And now it seems that they're working on something bigger yet again, this time for the Wii U. (more)
